Muse man's thriller against Millers

HE'S played in front of thousands - but not on this occasion.
Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme regularly takes to the stage at packed out gigs and music festivals all around the world.

But the Rotherham-born musician, who lived in Broom and Dalton, was back on home turf when he played in a football match with his road crew.

The Muse boys were up against a team representing the Millers Trust at Parkgate FC's ground at Roundwood Sports and Social Club, Green Lane, Rawmarsh.

Only a handful of people witnessed the game against the supporters' trust, which was played behind closed doors.

Chris, now aged 31, was born in Rotherham and moved to Teignmouth, Devon, when he was 11.

It was there where he eventually met up with fellow musicians Matt Bellamy and Dom Howard and formed Muse, now recognised as one of the biggest bands in the world.

Now living in Dublin with his wife Kelly and four children, he remains a massive fan of Rotherham United and goes to Millers games whenever he can.

And he loves to play the game

Chris said: "On tour, we and the lads try to play football wherever we can.

"When we were in America we managed to play against some of the Major League Soccer teams, but this is amazing. I can't believe I've just been playing against Millers legends such as Paul Hurst and Richie Barker, it's been brilliant.

"I want to say a big thanks to all the players and staff who turned up for the game."

And what made it even better for Chris is the Muse team won 4-3 and he scored the winner.

I'm just soo gutted I didn't know about this! I can get a bus to Rotherham, christ I could probably walk it if I was in a spruce mood. My Dad referee's local matches like this all the time so he probably knew who organised it all too

I'm just going to sit in the corner and cry now at this missed opportunity

well...the article might be wrong. my memory is crap, but i thought chris had said his team had lost 4-3...and that they had mixed the players up across both teams.
