I'll give Overdue 4/10.
I've never thought that Overdue is SO bad, but it's absolutely not one of the best Muse songs!

Hate This and I'll Love You - One of the reasons I created this thread. Nobody would ever talk about this song otherwise which is a shame because it is a hidden treasure.
I love the mandolin (right?) at the beginning - really sets the tone of the whole song. I also love the heartbreaking line "You led me on" and how plaintive and desperate Matt sounds singing it. The solo is another part I really like but I think one of the reasons this song doesn't get much discussion is because it is five minutes long but nothing really seems to happen. Sort of like an extended version of escape which touches me for personal reasons. This song is a little different to most of the other stuff on this album as its not so angsty as the rest. It's a wonderful album closer too. 8/10

Hate This And I'll Love You is a brilliant song, which I think sums up the album in a sort of roundabout way, its almost like the last gasp of angsty Muse, if like in my case your music player of choice then switches over to New Born and Origin'...
Great lyrics, nice chunky choruses and a beautiful solo and ending, 10/10

Hate This and I'll Love You... 8/10 the very first time I heard this song I was absolutely speechless, I found everything to be absolutely stunning about the song.
It has the exact same effect on me now, saying I love it is an understatement

Hate This and I'll Love You
► Deceptive in nature. It seems simple, but it's filled with many delicious layers. It seems basic in structure, but it's actually quite progressive. ▲ Does a fantastic job closing a shaky album. ▲ Always manages to make me happy with its strong musical prowess. ▲ Too many Muse moments. Like the mandolin intro, or the baritone harmonies during the verses. Or that incredible solo at the end. ▲ Matt's best vocal on the album IMO. ▲ Should silence anyone who thinks Muse need heavy songs to sound good. ▼ Can't really think of anything I don't like about it. ▼ Uh... took me 4 tries to rip it properly? :P 10/10

HTAILY
Good song, good album closer. I like the lyrics and it makes the album better again after the horrid "Overdue". Some parts of it are a bit too whiny to my mind, I love Matt's vocals and his voice in general but in this song it's a bit too much whining sometimes. 7/10

HT&ILY 6/10
A very atmospheric song, and the falsetto and build-up at the end is exquisite. That said, it's really not much of an album closer, and I don't consider it to be brilliant. It seems to be the album closer because it wouldn't fit anywhere else.

I loooove HTAILY! It's my favorite on the album. I think they could've done even more with it, made it a little longer and proggier, but for such a young band and a first album, it's amazing. 9.5/10

HTaILY is probably my third-ish favorite on this album. I just love its overall sound, and the emotion it gives out. I don't get why people seem to not like it. I'll give it an 8/10.

Why make it longer? At 5:16 I think it's long enough. Any longer would probably be too long IMO.

Positives: The vocals are some of the best on showbiz. The Chorus is awesome Strong track throughout Negatives: Too much going on in some parts. the crickets are annoying. Not a fan of the lyrics. Overall 6/10

Hate this & I'll love you
This is such a chilling song. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I listen to it sometimes. It's beautiful. It was one of my favourite songs when I first got into Muse but sadly I often forget about it these days (like a lot of other tracks from Showbiz. )8/10 |

Moving on we'll discuss some b-sides now.
the next few days are for twin, spiral static and host. Twin - a likable song and very typically Muse IMO. I really like the bassline and the beat in this song. The drumming at the start is really cool. 6/10 Spiral Static - one of my favourite b-sides, easily in my top five. I love the ridiculously low note in the verses (his lowest note) and the range is incredible especially how it goes to that octave leap in the chorus. I think the only other song with such a leap is citizen erased. (actually that's bigger) great song. 9/10 Host - Personally this is my favourite b-side. The mellow and gentle intro and those soothing tones and chords are terrific. But then that incredible hard part in the middle that just seems to come out of nowhere. It's like being slapped in the face by a cold wet fish. Fucking incredible. The last note before the breakdown is heartbreaking too. Fantastic song. 10/10

I'll get to Twin later - I'll give it another listen so I don't confuse it with Balloonatic.
Spiral Static 7.5/10 Why on earth this wasn't put on Showbiz instead of Sober or Overdue, I don't know. It's such a deliciously dark song ('who knows how much to moan and groan', 'broken inside, you'll feel broken inside.') The weird synth effects in the background make the song sound creepy and atmospheric, and the vocals show off Matthew's spectacular range. There's so much emotion in it, and the climax works really well. I really like this b-side. Host 7/10 Aussie Muser pretty much said it all already. The melody at the start is so simple, yet I'm hooked into listening to it every time. A very raw song, and an angry song; just listen to that middle section. And then there's that trademark falsetto at the end. This also should have been on Showbiz, in my opinion - although I can see why they didn't put it on. Another great b-side. Both of these songs showcase the raw emotion that is sometimes missing in their newer songs.
