The last time I heard Muse on the local radio was Knights of Cydonia 3 years ago.
![]() (I *have* heard Uprising while in Connecticut before, but that's different)

Billboard removes songs from their Alternative/Modern Rock radio airplay chart and classifies them as recurrents if they have spent 52 or more weeks on the chart and drop below position no. 10. Mediabase has a similar policy except their recently revised rule stipulates 40 weeks instead of 52. A song can re-enter the chart if it moves back into the top ten which did happen with Uprising for one week this past August. Songs are also removed if they have spent 20 or more weeks on this chart and drop below no. 15. On the Billboard Hot 100 all genres chart songs are removed after they have spent a total of 20 or more weeks on the chart and drop below no. 50. This happened with Uprising as well.
Uprising entered the Alternative rock chart dated August 22, 2009 and stayed for a total of 53 weeks and was moved to recurrent status at the end of August 2010. It spent a total of seventeen weeks at #1 which in the history of this 22 year old Billboard chart ranks second only to The Pretender by Foo Fighters which spent 18 weeks at no. 1. On the Mediabase Alternative rock chart Uprising spent a total of 19 weeks at no. 1 which is a chart record. Uprising unfortunately is ineligible to be nominated for a 2011 GRAMMY because it was released a few weeks before the current eligibility period (Sept 2009 thru Sept 2010). The Pretender on the other hand was nominated for Record of the Year for 2008 and lost but Foo Fighters did win a GRAMMY for Best Hard Rock performance that same year for this song. |

Congrats to Muse!
Undisclosed Desires jumps from no. 9 to no. 4 on the latest Alternative Rock chart to be officially released by Mediabase on Monday. This means The Resistance has now generated three top 5 hits on the Alternative chart. Black Holes and Revelations had three top ten hits on this chart while Absolution had three top 40 hits, two of which reached the top ten. Billboard is currently compiling and ranking this year's most popular songs by genre. The tracks below will most likely be in the top ten on the Alternative Songs list for 2010: Uprising - Muse Resistance - Muse Lay Me Down - The Dirty Heads f/Rome Savior - Rise Against Lisztomania - Phoenix 1901 - Phoenix Animal - Neon Trees For the 2009 chart year Billboard ranked Use Somebody by Kings of Leon as the most popular Alternative Rock song based on radio airplay detections measured by Nielsen BDS and named KOL Alternative Rock artist for 2009. KOL received four GRAMMY nominations and won three at the GRAMMY Awards last year. Billboard will likely name Muse as Alternative Rock artist for 2010 because of four charted singles, three of which reached the top ten and two of which hit #1. |

UD is really the "little song that could". I never thought it would crack the top 20, much less make it to #4. It's a bit misleading though -- it has less spins now than a few weeks ago at #8, but other songs have dropped much faster while UD has stayed constant. I don't see it going higher, as it's 300 spins behind KOL's Radioactive. Here's the mediabase alternative chart: http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insi...s.asp?format=5 I wonder if UD will be released to Hot AC stations? It seems like a good fit for that format to me. |

Billboard has "Undisclosed Desires" ranked on their latest chart at #4 too. KROQ gave it some love this past week. Click and view the video below for an interesting behind the scenes look at the making of UD on TR.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MNyq...eature=related "Uprising" was placed at #16 on Billboard's year end Alternative chart for 2009. This year I expect it to be ranked in the top three. We will know a week from today the exact position. |

"Uprising" has just been named the most popular rock song at Alternative radio for 2010 in Billboard's year-end airplay genre charts while "Resistance" was ranked at #6 and "Undisclosed Desires" at #49. "Uprising" was also ranked at #49 on the Adult Top 40 year-end radio airplay chart. The band's album The Resistance placed at #98 on the year end Billboard 200 album chart for 2010. Last year TR held position #124.
Muse has also been named Billboard's Alternative Rock Artist of the Year for 2010 with four charted singles. Phoenix placed second and 30 Seconds to Mars placed third. Click on the video below to listen to Matt's interview in September 2009 in which he reveals the inspiration for "Uprising" which has been certified Platinum by the RIAA in the USA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42mes...eature=related Meanwhile, "Undisclosed Desires" has gained radio airplay this past week and holds steady at #4 on the Mediabase Alternative chart. If current airplay trends continue, the top three songs on next week's Alternative chart according to Mediabase will be:
1. "Waiting for the End" - Linkin Park 2. "Tighten Up" - Black Keys 3. "Undisclosed Desires" - Muse It is interesting to note Linkin Park's "Lying from You" topped this chart in June 2004 when "Time is Running Out" became the first top ten charted song for Muse in the USA. These two bands have had the most top tens on the Alternative chart during this span. What does Chester Bennington of LP think of Muse? Click on the video link below to find out. The interviewer is Stryker of KROQ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDsOqjLE4Uw Last edited by muse s'amuse; 25-12-2010 at 10:41 PM. |

The above figures include the total estimated sales of concert tickets and the Pollstar list and holiday travel headlines reporting costs and support costs in the United States last fall, the band U2. However, in Europe, the band should come to the fore, especially in their home show, because they charge a slightly higher ticket prices.

"Undisclosed Desires" has held the #4 position on Billboard's Alternative chart the last three weeks with around 1,400 weekly plays just a few spins behind "Shake Me Down" by Cage the Elephant. As predicted above, UD has risen to #3 on the Mediabase Alternative chart for the past two weeks. On the Billboard Rock Songs chart which ranks tracks by audience impressions instead of plays, UD is ranked at no. 7 ahead of "Shake Me Down" which moves up to no. 9. Linkin Park and The Black Keys occupy the top two positions on both of these charts with just over 1,700 weekly spins each for "Waiting for the End" and "Tighten Up," respectively.
Also, Mediabase has ranked "Uprising" as the most played track at modern rock radio on their 2010 year end Alternative chart with "Resistance" at no. 6. These two Muse tracks hold the exact same rankings on the Billboard year end Alternative chart. Amazingly, "Uprising" which charted for 53 weeks and spent 17 weeks at no. 1 was ranked higher than "Savior" by Rise Against which spent a record setting 65 weeks on the chart but peaked at no. 3 and ended up at no. 2 on both the Billboard and Mediabase year end rankings. |

Muse debuts at no. 41 on Billboard's new Social 50 chart which ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites. Artists' popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays. The top three artists on this chart are Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga. It moves up to no. 38 in its second week on this chart.
