"Undisclosed Desires" rises to no. 20 this week as it continues its slow climb up the Billboard Alternative songs chart. It has gotten airplay at about 35 radio stations out of 57 on the panel for the modern rock genre.
On the latest Mediabase alternative chart UD moves up to no. 23 while "Uprising" falls to no. 14 in its 57th week. KROQ has three Muse songs in its latest top 25 playlist although UD occupies the bottom rung at no. 25. Muse is likely to be honoured as Billboard's Hot Alternative Artist for 2010 with two of its songs being ranked in the top five most played for the year. Kings of Leon were named Alternative artist of the year for 2009 while that band's song "Use Somebody" was the most played track at modern rock radio. The Resistance has now sold 550k+ copies in the States. It is also still in the top 40 on the Official UK albums chart after the band's appearance at Glastonbury and remains in the top five on the album chart in France. "Undisclosed Desires" holds for a second week at no. 20 on the latest Billboard Alternative songs airplay chart because "Radioactive" by Kings of Leon debuts at no. 16 this week.
Meanwhile, UD climbs to no. 17 on the corresponding Mediabase radio airplay chart. Mediabase changed it 20/15 and 40/10 recurrent rules this week which means "Uprising" by Muse has been removed/purged from the chart along with "Savior" by Rise Against, "1901" by Phoenix and "This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars. As a result, songs by UK acts Florence + The Machine and The xx debuted in the top 40 this week on the Mediabase Alternative chart. The Resistance spends its 53rd week on the latest Billboard Top 200 album chart at no. 156. By way of comparison, Black Holes and Revelations had 32 charted weeks; Absolution 28 charted weeks (0 weeks in the top 100);; HAARP 3 weeks; Origin of Symmetry 1 week; and Showbiz 0 weeks. BH&R still remains Muse's best selling album in USA with over 700k units sold. Last edited by muse s'amuse; 23-09-2010 at 03:53 PM. |

Every time I get into a county car for work, Undisclosed Desires is playing on the radio. It feels like it's everywhere!

Unless Matt does a duet with Eminem or Rihanna, it is unlikely Muse will ever get a hit song played on Top 40 pop radio stations in the USA such as KISS FM in LA with Ryan Seacrest. Although "Uprising" got a total of about 7,000 plays at these stations earlier this year, the song peaked at around no. 49 and never made the Top 40 Mainstream pop chart. In my opinion, record labels will be extinct in a few years. Their business model is outdated and failing. The only albums that have have gone double or triple platinum recently were Susan Boyle, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Josh Groban, Lady Antebellum and Eminem. Even MTV Networks has given up on music except for the VMAs and broadcasts mostly "reality" shows like Jersey Shore. Artists like U2, Madonna, Radiohead, Trent Reznor, Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Pearl Jam and Muse no longer need labels to promote and market their music. They are doing extremely well on their concert tours with Live Nation or AEG but they still need music publishers like EMI and Warner Chappell to collect mechanical and performance royalties and synchronization licensing fees. Update:
UD is at no. 17 on the latest airplay chart while "Little Lion Man" by Mumford & Sons takes over as the #1 song at Alternative radio. Also, TR jumps from no. 156 to no. 124 on the Billboard 200 album chart due to the start of the band's second leg of the North America tour and positive word of mouth and reviews of their recent southern California arena shows. |

I've started hearing it on my local station... I'm still more likely to hear Resistance, but I just heard UD on the way home last night...

UD climbs three slots to no. 13 on the latest Alternative songs chart (Billboard & Mediabase) which is one position higher than NSC which peaked at no. 14 this summer. Most of the radio stations playing UD however are only giving it light to medium rotation including KROQ in LA. The video channels (MTV, VH1, Fuse) surprisingly have not added it to their playlists but it has gotten over 12 million views on YouTube. UD reminds me a little bit of "Closer" by NIN and has definite Timbaland and Depeche Mode influences too.

Wow! A 24% increase in radio airplay this week for "Undisclosed Desires" means the song will climb to no. 12 or higher on next week's Alternative songs chart. UD is one of the three biggest gainers along with "Waiting for the End" by Linkin Park and "Sick of You" by Cake.
