Favorite Batman film

the Batman films have had a large hand in creating the comic-book film genre, and a couple of them are damn good films in their own right. which one is your favorite and why?

Batman: The Movie (1966)
Holy camp Batman!

Batman (1989)
started the feature film franchise. the best in my opinion.

Batman Returns (1992)
a sequel. Danny DeVito as The Penguin and Michelle Pheifer as Catwoman were awesome, but ultimately the movie is only that; a sequel. best part: "... and Bruce Wayne, why are you dressed up like Batman?" oh, Chris Walken.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
yes, this one counts because it had a theatrical release. it's quite honestly one of the best the bunch.

Batman Forever (1995)
Jim Carrey was everywhere in the mid-nineties.

Batman and Robin (1997)
awful, just God awful, but i find it really funny. IT'S TIME TO CHILL OUT!!!

Batman Begins (2006)
i don't care much for this one. but i did really like how Batman looked like Batman in certain scenes. such as the way he stood, the way his cape fell, etc.

The Dark Knight (2008)
a good film, but ultimately a lot of hype. a LOT of hype.

my favorite is Batman (1989). everything about it is perfect, from the casting, to the art direction, and the unforgettable, iconic score. i hate Tim Burton but this is a wonderfully directed and great movie.

Mask of the Phantasm takes second place. the rest are all pretty average for me.

Batman Returns is probably my favourite. The villains are brilliant.

I think you click thread tools just above your post, then pick poll.

Anyway, TDK < BB < Batman (1989)

I'm tempted to say Mask of Phantasm. Purely because BTAS got it so right so many times more so than any of the live action films did, even the very best.

I like Batman Returns out of the live action best I think. My issue with Batman '89 is the Joker is all wrong, and seeing as I'm a massive Joker fan that's going to impact heavily on my opinion I think Batman Returns is darker and probably a bit more coherent as well so that one wins out of those two, but they both pwn the two that came next...

I do like The Dark Knight. Thing I've noticed about the Nolan films is it depends whether or not you like "real world" Batman and the people who aren't so keen on the idea won't like the films as much. Which is fair enough really.

If anyone votes for Batman And Robin I will demand a full explanation in exactly 100 words as to why. That film blows.

Batman Forever.

Val Kilmer kicks ass .

Christian Bale ruined the new ones.

Batman Returns was terrible. I rather hear catwoman scratching a blackboard then see her acting again.

I've never seen Mask Of The Phantasm... or the first one I think, but it looks like it would be as hilariously bad as the TV series from that picture!

I don't know though. Either Burton's 1989 Batman or The Dark Knight. I must have an unconscious thing for The Joker! I love the dark claustrophobia of Burton's, but Heath Ledger's performance is better than Nicholson's (as much as I love him!), and I just about prefer Bale to Keaton too (although neither are amazing)... So i'll go with The Dark Knight... just.

someone might have to make a thread for best Joker as well. Mark Hamill's from TAS is amazing.

If we did that, Hamill should win by a landslide. If anyone has any sense

I know it's just a voice but meh, voice over work is still acting and whenever I've read a Joker-centric comic I always hear Hamill's voice. And I know I'm not the only one. He must've done something right.

lol true. you are correct, it is still very much acting. voice actors don't get enough credit.

to be fair though, the animators are also a big reason the portrayal was so awesome. a lot of the humor comes from his hilarious facial expressions.

I love it that watching BTAS you can tell when the censors stopped bugging the writers/animators so much cos Joker's victims started out being able to recover from Joker Venom (so nobody actually died) but by the time you get to stuff like Return of the Joker, death is very much happening
