Err yeah. It's just The Streets were initially shit imo. A 'good' rapper and I think it would be awesome.

Yeah the article was a bit vague on that. Means they'll be making more than two more albums under the Warner banner though I suppose. *shudders*

But...but...Muse would finally "break America!"

My first thought when I read the original article was that this kinda paves the way for Matt's solo career. I'm not saying it's going to happen tomorrow, or next year, or ever, for that matter...but this kind of publishing agreement with Warner would make it easy for Matt's solo material to be released without having to hassle about looking for a contract or publishing agreement somewhere else.

Just a thought as far as publishing agreements and song ownership and copyrights and things go, the last thing that Matt/Muse want to do are lose the rights to their own music. *glances at the Michael Jackson Estate, which still owns a healthy chunk of The Beatles catalog*

Lolarious, yo!

So, why has Warner only 'extended' its agreement with Matt? Should we take this to mean that the agreement is solely for teh Ballemy's prospective solo career and doesn't involve Muse?

Either way, this was inevitable. With the band's increasing desire to 'break' America (for some reason they don't seem to think they have yet), and their inclination towards more 'poppy' tunes, it's hardly a wonder that Warner want to latch onto them and Muse want to increase their success.

I don't know if this means that their priorities have changed - their music has pretty much always generated chart success (albums, at least), and they've not had any problem selling out shows etc. for the past 7 years or more, so it's not as if prolonging their deal with Warner is going to change much. But we'll see; there's a chance that it could result in a record company nudge to push them to produce more 'commercially accessible' songs, but Muse were never ones to be easily swayed by the pressures of their label. However, if their next song is a cover of Cliff Richard, I'll retract my statement.

Publishing only relates to songwriting rather than recorded material. I'd imagine it's so Warner can have songs penned by Matt for other acts in those regions as it would be a different subsidiary of Warner.

I missed the part where extending the record contract means the band is ruined forever.

Well i've just got back from holiday to this news. It kinda makes me smile. There were quite a few passionate fans who were persistent with their views that Muse were being tied down and forced into making commercialised material. This basically says Muse are happy with what they're doing, so much so that they've extended their contract.

Warner/Chappell Music Extends Partnership with Muse

Warner/Chappell Music, the global music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, today announced an extended agreement with Warner Bros. Records recording band Muse and songwriter / front-man Matthew Bellamy. The new deal covers all of the award-winning group's albums, including the last five number ones ‘Absolution', ‘Black Holes and Revelations’, ‘The Resistance’, ‘The 2nd Law’ and their latest record ‘Drones’ as well as their critically acclaimed debut ‘Showbiz’ and follow-up ‘Origin of Symmetry’.

The band's lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist Matthew Bellamy is also its primary songwriter and lyricist. His songs and the unique sound the band has created have met with critical praise and chart success around the world. The group's latest record topped album, international and iTunes charts in 22 countries around the world and reached top ten chart positions in many other countries. Muse are widely recognised as one of the world's top live acts, they created the official song of the London 2012 Olympics and have received a number of prestigious awards including an Ivor Novello, a Grammy, two BRIT Awards, Q, NME and MTV awards.

Richard Manners, Managing Director, Warner/Chappell Music UK said, “Muse are one of the greatest rock acts in the history of the genre. Matthew is a brilliant songwriter and as a touring band they consistently push the boundaries of their amazing live show. We're very proud to have worked with them for so long and thrilled to be able to extend and broaden our relationship.”

Cameron Strang, Chairman & CEO, Warner/Chappell Music and Warner Bros. Records, commented: “I am delighted that Warner/Chappell will remain home to Muse’s outstanding body of work. We are very proud to have this brilliant band in both the WCM and WBR families, and this agreement strengthens our enduring partnership. We are looking forward to more amazing things from the group in the years ahead, as we continue to work together to develop fresh global opportunities for their music on all fronts.”
