Meh, I'm still a firm believer that TR Tour was dull. Can't think of any performance of that time that I would pick over a T2L or BH&R one.

I feel the same way about the Drones tour for the most part, at least in terms of pro shots. I haven't had the drive to watch every pro-shot video this time round like I did with all of the previous tours. Part of that is finding it hard to watch Matt struggle with certain songs this tour.

Yeah Drones has definitely been even worse. Muse are still a consistent live band who pretty much never make a mistake, and thus they will still receive all the praise. But for me (and others) it just doesn't come close to earlier tours in terms of energy, effort or overall quality.

Surely you'd rate Reading '11 over a fair few? I also thought Wembley '10 2nd night was superior to O2 '12 2nd night..

Reading was literally about an album they released ten years earlier, hardly a good example of the TR tour. Anyway that's not what I meant. I meant individual performances. Like, there's no Sunburn from 2009 or 2010 that I wouldn't turn down in a heartbeat for a 2012 performance. And that's the case for basically every song. Stockholm
Syndrome, Time Is Running Out, SMBH etc, they are all better before and/or after that tour. The exceptions might be the actual TR songs, and KoC actually. KoC in 2010 was amazing. Especially at Fuji.

I actually quite enjoyed the additional guitar part that Matt added to the last chorus of Resistance era Stockholm Syndrome, but I agree that SS and other songs lacked energy. Only other performance highlight I remember from that era was how great Ruled By Secrecy sounded, but I don't think that it got played in T2L tour - so can't make a comparison.

In general I think you're right, TR and Drones Tours had a lot of flat performances, especially for the hits.

When I saw them in LA last year (which was probably a mistake) SMBH, Uprising, TIRO, Hysteria and even KoC sounded very stale. It also didn't help that the bass was super quiet this tour.

I did think that in Brighton, Supermassive and Uprising sounded very half-arsed. Especially the latter. But both were oddly better at the O2 full Drones show I saw, even with Matt strolling around guitar-less and rubbing his nipples or whatever he was doing during Uprising. Starlight meanwhile went the other way - was good at Brighton, but was the worst song of the night at the O2 by virtue of damp bass and Morgan's guitar being inaudible.

Best Uprising has to be first time I saw it. But then it was the first song of the first Muse gig I saw, and had a huge slap in the face of bass to kick it off. Which was fun.

T2L tour actually had the only performance of RBS ever where he sang the ending properly like on the album.

My first gig ever from any band was Teignmouth 2nd night, which must have been Uprising's 2nd performance.

I'll never forget being surrounded by screaming fans nearish the front and being slightly terrified, when Chris walked on with his sawn-off head bass and laid down this monstrous bass line - It sounded massive, especially with the great outro.

Shame that it sounds dogshit nowadays!

I still think the guitar tone of the Resistance tour was the best. The whole mix on the Paris performance of Stockholm Syndrome and the Seattle show are good examples.

T2L and Drones tours tones were good, but couldn't touch TR tour in my opinion.

Missing that performance still stings quite a bit. But I fully agree that most songs on that tour has had better versions on other tours. Resistance as well as US on the 2009 Tour and actually both MOTP and SMBH had my favourite versions on shows I've been to from then.
The whammy solo on SMBH absolutely killed me in Stockholm 09.
I also remember how incredibly cool the towers were, albeit taking some of the energy out of the performances.

Speaking of gigs including ones I haven't attended I've gotta admit it was far from the juiciest versions though, especially since most BHAR-tracks has had a steady decline since it's release..

EDIT: The Solo at 2:40

Eh. I honestly thought that the guitar tone on some songs on TR tour was too thin. SMBH in particular I felt sounded better on T2L tour, as it had a bit more a bite to Matt's guitar sound.

Though tbf that is a great performance of Stockholm.

Yeah, if that's a first ever gig, I can imagine that being fantastic. Current version needs more bass, plus Matt actually playing the sodding guitar.

Dogshit's an exaggeration, but its certainly gone backwards.

Yeah. Glasgow, I think - that performance was good. Its a good song and the band have previously said its a live favourite... shame it hasn't been seen since.

I think Matt's old TR tone worked a lot better with the punchy stuff like Stockholm, US, Butterflies and Hyper Music. The glitchy fuzz-scape he uses now works better for stuff like Supermassive, Dead Inside, Revolt and Madness. I think the T2L Tour had the best combo of the two, now he just kinda fuzzes out everything.

So, basically, the trade-off is that the thin stuff sounds thicker and less tinny but the beefy stuff sounds a bit muddy.

Yeah like I said, the songs actually off the Resistance album are of course likely to be best during that time. Can't really compare versions from gigs I've been to since I've seen them once in 2006 and once in 2009, but the best versions of Unnatural Selection were from 2013 imo, and nothing beats the 2006 version of SMBH where Matt did the distorted screaming.

(Rock In Rio 2013 is even better, but don't wanna link the entire gig)
