It was a nice year for that list actually. Got to see Stockholm and Butterflies after 6 years. I got to add a new song to the BH&R list after 7 years, and another song from Showbiz.

I find it weird that BH&R is probs the hardest pre-TR album to see rarities from.

Hysteria will remain my fav forever. After my second gig I said to myself : "okay, let's see Muse every year." I was convinced it can't be true in 2018, but I was wrong :-D

Shame really considering the goldmine it is.

Hoodoo, City of Delusion, Invincible and Map are four songs I'd absolutely love to see live some day.

Honestly I only think it's hard because it's the album with the least requested rarities. There is no shortage of fans asking for every song on Origin and even Showbiz, as well as songs like Fury and B&H, but who requests CoD besides a few people on the board?`

We will probably see for example Hoodoo being played in the coming years. Assassin for example was thought to be dead until people started requesting it (after 2013 ofc. Muse never listened to requests before that)

I'm more surprised at the middle songs that disappeared. Take A Bow only showed up on some tour legs, Map is very non-existent nowadays. A lot of the songs like CoD, Assassin, Hoodoo, disappeared nearly or completely before even the BH&R tour ended.

The 2nd Law has somewhat the same treatment but people expectedly care less.

I actually miss Supremacy. And I wouldn't mind a beefed up Uns Uns coming back

Did they ever do Animals in the US?

In the album's tour plenty of times. I don't think it was ever played in the US this tour as it was barely played at all.

Even aside from what gets requested though, over the last 10 years we’ve seen stuff like Agitated, Yes Please, Falling Down, Host (sort of), Cave, Futurism, CTMEOY, The Groove, Apocalypse Please and Blackout come back without really being asked for.

We eventually managed to revive Assassin w/ heavy requests, and now got potentially one-off appearances of Glorious and Easily that we forced through @ SBE, but the only non-hits the band kept alive after its era have been TAB and a couple of plays for Soldier’s Poem back in 2011. That is spaaaaarse fam, especially when you consider the random Showbiz b-sides and offcuts that’ve popped up in the meantime despite them/Matt having a reputation for not exactly loving that record.

^ yeah, this also

Looking back, even TR fared better w/ US, Eurasia and GL surviving over the next album’s tour. You’d have thought Hoodoo, Assassin and Invincible would’ve been looked at similarly but apparently not. I’d be curious to know the band’s opinions on some of those songs around the time they started dying off on the BH&R tour.

What really surprised me was Assassin not being played at Wembley. Every BH&R song was played there except for it and Exo-Politics, Exo-Politics I can understand but not Assassin.

Pretty much insignificant to 99% of people but I was looking through Manchester Academy footage a little while back and realised Matt played a wee bit of Grace (Jeff Buckley) before TIRO. Only other time I’ve ever heard him do it is that Spiral Static performance at Plymouth Soundwave back in ‘97 I think, unless there’s some obscure bootlegs with it out there.

Neato.

I'm pretty sure the Spiral Static intro from 1997 was literally a part of the song though, otherwise it would be a pretty bad cover, especially considering Matt CAN play it properly*

Here's another time he played it btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdSc5xc7Rg4&t=2m50s

*and then I listened to the Manchester Academy performance. He really fucked it up didn't he

I think it might’ve been sort of 50/50. The Spiral Static demo from around the same time doesn’t have it in so I wonder if he just implemented a variant on the Grace bit live ‘cos he thought it fit, hard to say w/ literally two examples though I guess.

It is v easy to fuck up tbf (for me at least) sounds like he might be finger-picking in that interview though so maybe he finds that easier, or maybe he was just rusty at MA idk

The demo does have basically the same thing though, doesn't it? He's doing something different in the first few seconds before the drum and bass kicks in but he's still doing the same riff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJKfOTBYer0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wICE0ExeAE&t=17s

And yeah I definitely think he was playing the Grace riff more regularly back in 1999.
