It's unfortunate - especially when it's a band who really did used to push themselves time and time again live
That is what they should do.

But with the polls, they are doing them. That's just what I'm saying. It is lazy though.

Tell me now that there would be no complaints if they play another of the top five songs ... because I see clearly people saying, "Why do they have to play that song when Citizen/Bliss were the most wanted?"

I was really pissed off when I saw the poll results but I can’t say I don’t understand why they are playing those two.

But anyway, whatever they do, there's gonna be people crying.

Let me answer that with a question - Why couldn't they include CE or Bliss in the actual setlist and then add a poll song?

absolutely!
though, i have noticed he tends to rush any slow 'classical' style piano parts when playing live and they don't have the sensitivity of the album versions, which does bug me. the middle of B+H for instance particularly on the downward running scales towards the end of it. before he messed up collateral damage wasn't sounding that great live.
it sounds dreadful to say but i think a few piano lessons really would help his live performing..

Indeed, the stadium tour setlist should have have both Citizen Erased and Bliss pencilled in as definites given the poll results.

I also really dislike Supermassive as song #2. Uprising or Mk Ultra are great as openers but Supermassive works loads better a wee bit later in the set, maybe #3, #4 or #5.

Casino de Paris was perfect, MK Ultra into Map into Uprising into Supermassive. Switch MK and Uprising and it still works really well.

I think the flaming lips must have brought up the last of the hullaballoons for their set...

We're handing it to them on that respect. Look at it from a touring band's point of view. You have 5 songs- 2 of which are consistently voted for and are in demand, and 3 that you haven't played in a few years and would take some re-learning. What would you pick?
Call me crazy but the decent thing would have been looking at the poll results and decide to put CE and Bliss on rotation as setlist staples because of the demands and then pick something else from the each poll as a song as a treat for the fans but that would have mean spending time in rehearsals.

EDIT: Ross just saw your post at the end of the other page, I can see we think alike.

Because then people would be saying that Muse aren't doing their bit because the set list is too predictable. Or something like that...There's always a reason to complain!

And on the subject of setlists...Everyone seems to be forgetting that more people want stuff off the newer albums than stuff from the older ones. So, it makes much more sense to play stuff that people know and will join in with rather than playing an older song that only a handful of the crowd will actually no. I'm not saying that I wouldn't love them to play a lot of their older songs, but from Muse's point of view, more people enjoy the newer stuff more.

We do indeed. Plus, more time in rehearsals would = less time for our dear Matthew's recent romantic exploits

On a serious note though, It's not as if some of the top poll picks are hard to play or even re-learn. From T in the park's poll for example - Fury's a piece of cake to play, and I doubt it'd take them that much effort in rehearsals to re-learn it. It actually feels like a bit of a slap in the face the whole thing, because (in my eyes at least) they've actively seeked to give the impression that they were addressing the problem of a stale setlist, when in fact all they really have done is made another setlist that'll go stale, but with a "rarity", which even with bliss, is a bit of a misnomer.

Ask them, not me!

Anyway, I don't give a massive shit about the setlist because after all I'm able to have a amazing time at their gigs if they continue performing like the last time I saw them.

It is predicatble though. It's actually like the arena tour, except instead of wondering where you're getting FG or Cave and Unintended, you're wondering whether you're getting CE or Bliss. if they were adding 1 song extra from each poll in in addition to CE/Bliss , then it wouldn't be a problem.
