I'm not surprised.... I've been hearing UD more and more on my local station.... they still have Uprising & Resistance in heavy rotation, but from my limited exposure it seems like UD is gaining. That is probably partially due to the upcoming gig, though (gig isn't here, but it's the closest to us so they're giving away tickets and sending a bus full of people there)

I hear 'Uprising' about 2-4 times a day on the radio.
at first I'm like, ugh not this again. Then I'm like got me again you British....-insert creative playful insult here-

I wouldn't mind hearing Undisclosed Desires a couple times. I would prefer MK ultra so they would play it live moar. :|

I heard UD for the first time on 103.1 the buzz in West Palm Beach yesterday. UD is also on rotation at work. If you shop at Publix (grocery store chain in the south) you will hear it. Gives me a good reason to take a 5 minute break

It is now official. Muse gets it eighth top ten song on the Billboard Alternative/Modern Rock chart in the USA as UD explodes at radio and moves up four notches to no. 9 and achieves Greatest Gainer status. On the Mediabase chart it rises to no. 11 with just under 200 additional spins at radio stations in the past week.

The only band with more top ten Alternative hits than Muse at modern rock radio since June 2004 when the UK trio got its first top ten hit with "Time is Running Out" is Linkin Park with 9.

Since the chart's inception in 1988, the acts with the most top 10s are U2 with 23, the Red Hot Chili Peppers with 21, Green Day with 19, Foo Fighters with 17, and R.E.M., Pearl Jam, the Offspring, Incubus and Linkin Park with 15.

"Tighten up" by the Black Keys is the new #1 song on the Alternative Songs chart.

Undisclosed Desires is #1 on The End in Seattle! It was never #1 before! Yeah Muse! I think Seattle misses them.

UD holds for a fourth consecutive week at no. 8 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

Muse has now spent 67 consecutive weeks on this chart with three singles from The Resistance along with NSC from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

The Resistance spent 60 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 album chart peaking at a career high position #3 and has sold just under 600k copies to date.

The Billboard Hot 100 chart history for Matt Bellamy with Muse and his dad George with the Tornados:

"Uprising" composed by Matt debuted at #81 in August 2009, peaked at #37 in October 2009 and left the chart in February 2010 after 20 weeks and was certified gold by the RIAA while "Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) debuted and peaked at #77 in June 2010 for its only week on the chart.

"Telstar" debuted at #85 in November 1962, peaked at #1 for three weeks in December 1962 and left the chart in February 1963 after 16 weeks while "Ridin the Wind" written by George debuted at #80 in February 1963 and peaked at #63 and left the chart in March 1963 after five weeks. "Telstar" prevented "Limbo Rock" by Chubby Checker from reaching #1 and became the first #1 song by a British band on the USA singles chart a year before The Beatles.

It is a great debut CD by the band with outstanding songs such as Muscle Museum, Cave, Sunburn, Unintended, Uno and the title track. Some reviewers called it Radiohead lite but critics be damned!

A little bit of history behind this album's release in the USA according to various sources:

On March 22, 1999 Muse played a show at the Viper Club in West Hollywood, CA with about 20 people in attendance including reportedly Steve Jones, guitarist of legendary punk rockers Sex Pistols and currently host of Jonesy's Jukebox on KROQ radio in Los Angeles, and Guy Oseary, chairman and CEO of Maverick Records at the time and currently manager for Madonna. Mr. Oseary offered the band a record contract on the spot after Columbia Records had shown some initial interest in late 1998 and Showbiz was released by Maverick Records in the USA on September 28, 1999. It never charted and radio did not play any singles from it including Uno. The album has sold in the range of 50-100k in the USA per Nielsen Soundscan. Maverick decided not to release the band's second album Origin of Symmetry in 2001 because of doubts about the radio friendliness of the tracks due to Matt's vocal style and concerns over the album's potential commercial success. The band did not want to change its songs and left the label. Madonna also parted ways with Maverick in 2004 after disagreements with Warner Brothers Records CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr but Oseary remained head of the label for a few more years. Oseary later produced the first two Twilight films which featured Muse songs on its soundtracks. Incidentally, the director of Twilight Saga: Eclipse David Slade also directed several music videos from Origin of Symmetry including my favourite Bliss. Muse eventually signed with Warner Brothers Records and their next three albums have been released on that label. Also, one of the owners of the Viper Club in 1999 was Johnny Depp whose new movie The Tourist has the band's awesome song Map of the Problematique in the film's trailer and possibly in the closing credits. Life is full of strange twists and turns, innit?

Undisclosed Desires holds at no. 8 for a fourth consecutive week on the Alternative Rock songs chart while Uprising re-enters the iTunes top 200 songs chart this week probably due to Muse winning the American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Rock Artist for 2010 this past Sunday. The acceptance speeches given by Matt, Dom and Tom were watched by just under 12 million viewers on ABC that evening, likely the most ever to have seen Muse on primetime network television in the USA. The band's only previous appearances in front of a large television audience were on SNL in December 2009 when they performed Uprising and Starlight after midnight and on the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009.
