That was so much fun. It looked like the band were having masses of fun too.

The PiB intro . So derpy. I loved all the weird touches and flourishes in Eternally Missed too, really filled it out. Shame about Matt's vocals in the chorus being far too low in the mix.

Oh, and them all screwing up Agitated and then getting it back together again was lulz.

Just starting to give a little listen. Matt's mic being low on Eternally Missed is a bit of a bummer but good performance and I love the fact I could hear the crowd out-sing him on the song in the second verse.

Also, New Born sounded great. Proper tempo. And Microphone Fiend has always been my favourite NB outro.

I had a listen to Plug in Baby... that tone is weird. Almost like an electronic remix.

I saw it mentioned in the gear thread that Matt's Mirror Manson that he normally uses is out of action for the moment, but even so, I'm surprised its that radically different with a new guitar.

Completely agree. It's one of the first songs I fell in love with back in 2003 but it was never album material. Maybe on a Hullabaloo kind of album with all the B-Sides, but not as an A-side song.

I was at the gig yesterday and I cried when they started playing that, it was such a surprise. I knew they would play some rarities of course, but I expected Fury or Dead Star, but definitely not Eternally Missed, not even at a by request gig like this.

And then they played Space Dementia, one of my favourite album songs that I had never seen before, so I cried again. Showbiz, Muscle Museum, Assassin, Agitated, Yes Please, Fury, all first time live for me, it was brilliant, best gig ever. And they had so much fun!

I expected Dig Down to be on the setlist as well, very surprised that it wasn't.

One major point of criticism for La Cigale (which is a lovely small venue): I went in with my big black backpack, and no one checked it. I was 5 metres from the stage on Chris's side, with my backpack, I could have easily brought multiple guns/explosives/anything, I was at a perfect vantage point to cause absolute mayhem. I expected a good level of security at such a venue in Paris, but no, security was none existent.

Halfway through now. Good stuff.

I think Matt is selling their new stuff a bit short with his comments in between and the setlist. It's not like critical fans hate ALL their new stuff when they complain about recent lackluster setlists of recent tours. Playing Reapers or Animals or MK Ultra wouldn't have bothered anyone. Not that I'm complaining personally, this was great, I just don't want them to think they need to stick purely to the older "deep cuts".

Anyway. Spiral Static has to be featured next

I remember when Absolution came out Matt said they thought it was the best thing they'd ever done when they first wrote it, but then once the album started coming together they were over it realized it really wasn't that amazing after all. I still think it's great though. It just reminds me of a good time when they were experimenting with new songs live and just really had a great energy and sound going.

I thought Matt said he thought Fury was the best thing they'd ever done?

He might have. That doesn’t go against what That Little Animal said.

I may be wrong about this as it was a long time ago, but I remember he didn't actually name the song he was talking about, just that they loved one of the songs they played before recording the album, and then ended up disliking it and tossing it. I always assumed it was about Eternally Missed because they really never played that one again whereas Fury has made several appearances throughout the years. As far as I know Matt has never said a bad thing about Fury, in fact, he lamented the fact that TSP ended up on the album instead of it.

EDIT: Musewiki confirms:

"In the Making of Absolution documentary, Matt talks about how by the time they got to recording Absolution, they felt Eternally Missed was one of their best songs. However, after recording the album, Matt said he did not think it would even become a b-side."
