So Vernon Reid texted me a picture of his guitar. His band is going on a 25th anniversary tour in 2 months, and he wants some things added

dat floor

Alex, are you still willing to work on this strat neck?

I also noticed that the fretboard has shrunken... a lot. Someone must have already filed the fret edges, because this would really be painful to play otherwise

Not sure if it's actually worth saving when it's like this?

Haha, oh yes. That was about 6 years ago, Zooropa version 1.0. Shattocaster fit well. It was basically a case of "put it all in there by any means." Sustainer, Floyd, kaoss old school method (pre midi), fuzz factory.

That was built with my suitcase of tools I brought into the uk during my eat pray love times. Wasn't much to look at, but damn did it sound nice. Quite a few of my early guitars looked terrible, I can't not hone up to it. But I kept at it, always trying to improve, and hey, it fucking paid off!

Vernon Reid wants a fuzz factory and mini midi pad on the left bass side of the string lie. Basically he will be using his thumb to manipulate the pad, and finger picking at the same time.

YouTube him and watch this guy play, if anyone has the ability of really using the pad to its full potential, it's him. Im really stoked to see how he uses it. He is a phenomenal musician.

Also James, definitely worth saving! Send it on over and I'll take a closer look, I can't imagine any trouble with it.

Where do you think you'll get a small MIDI pad from? I'm wondering if you can get something like the screen in the mini KP...

I might send the whole guitar in, as I can't get the D string to intonate. I figure you should have the whole thing anyway if you're replacing the nut, because of string spacing etc
