19.06.10 Goffertpark Nijmegen: Travel and accomodation etc

Hi

hope this is ok, I thought it might be nice for those of you travelling to Nijmegen to have a separate topic for travel & accommodation tips etc. Ifnot, Mods I apologize and feel free to move this into the concert topic.

As you can tell I live in Nijmegen so I'm pretty darn pleased that they are coming here, and for those of you coming too here is a wee list of things that I thought might be usefull:

Flying in

Airport Weeze

Airport Weeze is just over the border in Germany and is the closest airport to Nijmegen. THere are flights to/from both London, Birmingham, Edinburgh&Dublin, by Ryanair. The only problem might be getting to Nijmegen from Weeze but I'm sure their website will have tips
http://www.airport-weeze.de/index.php?lang=en

Airport Dusseldorf

Also in Germany, but also rather close to Nijmegen and connected by (international) train
http://www.flughafenduesseldorf.de/dus_en/

Schiphol airport

the major airport in the netherlands close to Amsterdam. There is a direct trainconnection to Nijmegen
http://www.schiphol.nl/index_en.html

-
Ryanair also uses Eindhoven airport if I remember correctly, please see the ryanair site

by train

Nijmegen has a big trainstation, feel free to check http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers
Most people go to Nijmegen central station, Nijmegen Dukenburg(next to me) is also ok to travel to the Goffertpark from, last time there where busses. Also when I went to see the RHCP I just walked back and it was doable. You can travel via Utrecht/Arnhem, Zwolle, Venlo or Roosendaal/Den Bosch.

If you take an international train what I usually do is not to go all the way to Amsterdam and travel to Nijmegen from there but instead get out at Brussel and/or Antwerp, travel to Roosendaal and there is a direct train to Nijmegen. However now the timetable has changed, please check to find out what's quicker.

by car

there where plenty of traffic jams so make sure you allocate enough time, however since it's on a saturday hopefully you'll be ok. Check your route at http://www.routenet.nl/?UICulture=en . Upon entering Nijmegen you'll see plenty of signs of where to park. Another tip from me might also be travelling to Dukenburg, and parking somewhere around here, so you don't need to use the "waalbrug" and are close to the A73(major highway)

Where to stay

there are plenty of hotels in and around Nijmegen. You might think about staying in Amsterdam ea but I'm not sure wether travelling back is handy at night(for Ahoy last week I stayed in Rotterdam). Make sure to check www.tripadvisor.co.uk for a list. Here are a few of the hotels:

Scandic Sanadome

The Scandic Sanadome is the hotel closest to the Goffertpark. It's quite luxourious and has is own(very nice) health spa with loads of baths.
http://www.scandichotels.com/en/Hote...ndic-Sanadome/

Bastion hotel

smack bang in the middle of two roads but still rather close to the Goffertpark
https://www.bastionhotels.nl/en

Mercure hotel

very handy for travelling by train as it's next to the train station.
http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-1356...re/index.shtml

What to do before/after the concert

Since Nijmegen has plenty of shops (no sunday opening though), loads of restaurants and plenty of bars/pubs scattered all around the centre that won't be a problem

Nijmegen website:
http://english.nijmegen.nl/

How to greet the locals

a shouting of "N - A - SAY!" will probably get you the thumbs up, N-E-C is the local football team "Hoi", "Hallo" etc will do just fine too

-
so that's my little list, hope it helps and if you have any questions/additions/corrections please don't hesitate to contact me!

hope to see you there

xx

Inge

They usually have plenty of parking space provided but it can be a bit of a walk

You can park your car bij the train station.
There go busses to the Goffert.
After the concert there are extra busses to the train station.
It costs 6 euro a person. Did this a couple of times, no problems!

I wouldn't go by train, last train is probably a gig-killer.

Top, Inge! Very good info
Once more the Dutch show their wits ;-)

Maybe an after gig at one of the locals' places, until traffic is gone?
(Probably at 4am)

keep up the good work.

and i'd advise not going by car or if you go by car to park your car near the train station or so....last year with the coldplay concerts in nijmegen it was a complete disaster

Mwah... I went a couple of times to the Goffert with gigs from bands.
I never had problems with traffic.

What the waiting for buses after the gigs like?
Just came back from Bologna gig. The Italians are crazy (says my Italian friends) there were no proper queuing system, everyone just pushed and ran after the buses and the bus driver would stop at ramdom places.

I waited 1 1/2 hours after the gig then I had to join the madness for the bus.

I hope the Dutch are queue loving people.
