Seems a neck and neck race between New Born and Take a Bow.

I chose Sunburn. Sunburn and New Born are tough competitors. Love how nicely New ?Born flows and how British it sounds, but the darkness of Sunburn is up my street and the music video has Matt at his most attractive.

I love the way Newborn sounds immensely, but to this day some of the lyrics just bug me enough to get in the way.

1. Take A Bow
2. New Born
3. Apocalypse Please
4. Sunburn
5. Supremacy
6. Dead Inside (A bit silly maybe considering the album isn't even out)
7. Uprising

Have to go with New Born, but the rest are great. Muse always seems to have fantastic openers and closers.

1. New Born
2. Take A Bow
3. Intro + Apocolypse Please
4. Supremacy
5. Sunburn
6. Uprising
7. Dead Inside

Lol, TR may be my favorite Muse album, but Uprising doesn't open the album nearly as dramatically and amazingly as most of their other openers. And while I love DI more and more each day, I still don't think it's a great opener from a musical standpoint, at least not as great as anything else they've done in that category.

Really tough as all of Muse's opening songs are amazing. Although Dead Inside is one of my top 20 alltime fave muse songs as an opener its not quite as "unique" as the others. It sounds more like a 2nd song on an album but the fast start to it does make it somewhat unique to the idea of a Muse Opener to an album song because all of the others take a while to get going except maybe sunburn.

So i'm ranking these as openers and not as purely a favorite songs list:

1. New Born
2. Apocalypse Please
3. Take a Bow (One of the weaker of the opener songs as a random song IMO above maybe only Uprising but as the opening song itself its really ballsy cause its such a WTF? kind of song so to that effect it really works)
4. Supremacy
5. Dead Inside
6. Uprising
7. Sunburn

As far as my opinion goes, openers should intend to "open" the album. TAB never struck me as an opener because it sounds far closer to a closer than anything, and given KoC closes BHAR I can see why they decided to put that in the #1 slot anyway. I think Apocalypse Please does the best job of setting the tone immediately and grabbing you by the balls and making its presence known and felt. New Born has too much going on to be a statement of intent, and the 3 most recent openers are just either too much, too little, or too simple to be as effective as AP. "Declare this an emergency" is by far the best line to open an album, period. Add the delivery to it, and the whole package is just dulcet.

TaB was basically chosen as an opener because the band thought it flowed well into Starlight because of the key, lol.

And New Born definitely makes a statement of intent. As Matt has said, it starts off with soft piano and sounds reminiscent of the album Showbiz, before hitting you in the face with a riff, basically saying that "time to get heavy".
