Yes there is on a first listen, at least around here there is.

Hmm, on first listen Space Dementia was the only song that really blew me away - the song that really stuck in my head after finishing the album.

Origin of Symmetry contains more of Muse's original style than Absolution, but I like Absolution more. Absolution has 3 more songs than OoS. Absolution is when Muse started to transform their sound and mix it with peaceful songs like Ruled By Secrecy, Blackout, and Sing For Absolution. But they did change a lot since Origin of Symmetry.

To be fair, one is Intro and one is Interlude

As an album I may go with Origin, but stuff like Micro Cuts may be a bit much for new fans. If I had to show a new fan Muse I would probably just show a selection of good songs over an album.
The first Muse songs I heard (all in one day) were Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, Stockholm Syndrome, Citizen Erased, Sunburn, and Butterflies and Hurricanes. I honestly think that's responsible for my instant liking to them.

Showbiz is the best album and arguably the most accessible, so I'd go with that.

Overdue, Sober, Escape...doesn't get much better than that.

Surely saying a new fan shouldn't get OOS because Micro Cuts & Space Dementia might be a bit much is just adding weight to the idea that Muse have become more dull and unwilling to push the boundaries since then?

The idea with any band is just to buy the album that the songs you like best are on, then move on from there. Totally stupid and pointless to, for example, love New Born & Plug In Baby and then go and buy Absolution just because it's apparently more accessible according to someone else.

It's a chore to get through though.

Same with me when I heard Time Is Runnig Out (the song that made me really get into Muse), but I mean the general public or average Joe. From craploads of experience I can tell you that most people will get bored listening to Abso at first.
