Nice, I think I'll give it a go doing it all ali then. Did you heat it up or anneal it to bend it along the sides or did you do it cold? So far I've found some stuff that's around 0.04" (just over 1 mm). That's probably thin enough for the sides. Would you recommend trying to get closer to 2mm for the top/back or would just using the same thickness as the sides do the job? Granted it will probably look the same, and I guess y'all probably don't exactly know how it would sound with 1 mm of aluminum vs 2 mm.

I really appreciate all the input, thanks fellas. I probably won't have the dough to start making it for a few months but I'm going to at least CAD it up soon. I just need to find a CNC that's big enough for a guitar and can do aluminum.

Yeah that'll be fine I reckon. With the thinner stuff just make sure you get a very even and thorough spread of glue as the alloy won't be as rigid as thicker stuff.
As for bending around sides, cold is fine. It bends pretty easy.
I'd tape it in one place and work your way around bending it to shape before you even touch the glue.

anyone used these guys before?

http://www.usacustomguitars.com

really disappointed with the neck i got from warmoth, and rather than spending $200 on planing the fretboard, I might as well sell it on ebay to someone who won't notice (I graduated from the MFC school of business) and buy something else

also, compared to a 1 piece neck, are there any downsides about 3 (or more) piece necks? assuming they're built properly and whatnot

i assume you mean laminated length ways rather than having the heel/headstock as separate pieces? if so, then a 3 or more piece neck will be stronger and more stable than a one piece

Yeah

that makes sense I guess, though back when I sent my LP to have the neck replaced, gibson asked if it was a 3 piece neck because those often have twists in them

but then again... gibson made them.

just bought one of these for my strat.

they seem to be legit, although i have no idea where they're getting those from. the serial number not matching up is going to bug me.

I've always heard good things about USACG stuff. Lots of builders like Nash use their bodies and necks

That'll be the same funky radius as my tele right? I actually really like that neck.

fretboard needs to be planed. or at least i think that's what it needs, as the neck itself looks straight

want it?

it's crazy. the neck is brand new, and i realize they often need fretwork and whatnot, but it looks like there's a massive dip in the middle when the truss rod is pretty much as tight as it should be (including the side adjuster)

Yeah, or it should be - the guy said they have them with 22 frets (which I asked for), and I have no idea if it's just a '62 reissue with an extra fret or something a bit more modern like on the US strats for example

I want to get the carbon fibre look. I was just looking around and i found this place.

Moved to the correct thread.

As far as I'm aware the 'carbon fibre' on the Manson's isn't actual carbon fibre. Someone in this thread will be able to point you towards the correct material.

Also welcome

really, matt does't actually have real carbon fibre? I would also like to say that I'm in Canada so Canadian sites would be much appreciated. I though that he would put real carbon fibre. I am also wondering how to smooth the edges around the guitar if i use sheets on the guitar.

Okay just dug through a few threads. The chances are that it's texalium on the guitars. It can be sourced here:
