Artic Monkey's first must be up there, for me. OoS too, obbbviously.....
But Jebus, 2000 was so long ago! I barely remember what I had for breakfast, let alone all the albums I've liked since!

I'd say either Kid A, Funeral, Lift...Heaven, OoS, Vespertine...

Actually there's so many good albums to choose from.

Your post implied it already HAD been announced as such by The Sun or the NME or something.

You're probably right on the NME front. Well, either Employment or some kind of Pete Doherty-involved album.

Up the Bracket is fairly good, but probably not album of the decade

I'm just generally very cynical towards Doherty. From what I've actually heard of his work, it's really rather over-hyped to me.

Up the Bracket = really good
The Libertines = not as good but bummed because he was involved in making it and it was the last release from the band
Babyshambles = a bit awful if you ask me

I've said this more times than I can count but...

Programme 'Pentonville' out of Down in Albion and then have a listen to it again - Totally different listen. It's amazing how much that track totally fucks the flow and feeling of the whole album.

It's still not an AMAZING album, but it's a pleasant listen without that track.

I'm actually checking out Up The Bracket on Spotify now, I'll let my feelings be known once it's all done and dusted.

OK, so I've just given Up The Bracket a spin, and I gotta be honest...didn't really move me. All just sounded pretty samey, which would have been fine, if the what was being expelled was particularly exciting or moving. Radio America, was an exception for me, it was especially awful.

Was there something about that album that's gone right over my head or something?

You have to place it in the time period in which it came as well though. It's early noughties, at a time when there was NOTHING as raw and under-produced as that. It brought around a revival in all things 'Londonaria' and it drew focus back onto a music scene which had been lacking in British names for a while thanks to the swamp of Nu Metal flooding mainstream music.

Personally, I love that record. I loved it the first time I heard it. I think there's beauty in how scrappy and 'made in someone's bedroom' it sounds, and lyrically it's actually quite clever.

It's a tough call for my album of the decade but I've got it narrowed down to two choices...

Elbow - The Selcom Seen Kid
It's just beautiful, moving and clever lyrics add to the already grand music. Elbow, before this, were generally thought of as writing very claustrophobic music (listen to Bitten By The Tailfly off Asleep In The Back, and you'll see what I mean) but this is expansive, grandiose but also humble and warm. You won't get two better songs than Mirrorball and One Day Like This on one album, and the whole package ebbs and flows like a northern tide.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
A great example of what a band can do when free of record label worries, this is the warmest and happiest Radiohead have ever felt on record. It still contains bite though, Bodysnatchers in particular showing they can still rock out. In all though, it's mellow and almost happy in places! Signs are good for the Radiohead future
