hmmm... the Russian BMP calls for high gain npn's, but i'm reduced to either matched 2n3904's or unmatched, but paired, crazy japanese npn's with a higher gain than 3904's....

ideas/opininins?

they're sexy caps i salvaged from a sexy old sexy radio. it was sexy.

they look like sweets.

edit:
got to the first set of diodes. I've to go out for a few hours. REALLY pleased with progress. Super clean build.

http://i26.tinypic.com/smsja1.jpg

ZOMG czech out the size of his massive 1k resist0r!? the white cap and the FAT green ones (not the skinny green one) are polyester film caps. All the other caps you see are normal ceramics.

That big resistor is the funniest

hows the big muff goin?

i just did a fuzz factory installation into a guitar, by request from another person..so no flaming

if you ask me, its too much of a hassle. and its much easier to control when in stompbox form. also, im not a huge fan of the effect.

not so good. I'm spending more time debuging it than i'd like to. However, i might be ordering some parts in the next week or so....

maybe...... i'll have to wait and see...

My parts arrived today, so i breadboarded a Runoffgroove Omega boost. I think its the best booster i ever heard. (at least in my rig) http://www.runoffgroove.com/omega.html

I did a big photo with values for the parts added in photoshop, so i can easily recreate it in the future. I left the two trimmers out, i just swapped the resistors. The beauties of breadboarding.

It uses a 2n5457 JFET and a BS170 MOSFET. If anyone have those funky parts i could attach my not so tidy breadboard "layout" so you don't have to remake the layout.

It will be a section of my first proper finished pedal ever. (it demands a lot of stuff, paint, several drill heads etc.) There will be an overdrive section in it too. I would be happy if i could add my Ge. FuzzFace but it is positive ground. There are some ICs for inverting the current, so i could give it a go. There will be a little power filtering section there too, it will look funny in the inside. I have to get some huge-ass Hammond case.

One question: What should i use for attaching the finished effect to the case? I would like to use some kind of light glue like a chewing gum.

that is a nice boost. It's REALLY boosty at the high levels though. It's nice, but i prefer the SHO myself.

Trimmers can be handy for biasing though. personally, i'd be reluctant to leave them out, even in a finished project.

BS170's are quite common. Try www.bitsbox.co.uk , i'm fairly sure they stock them. As for the 2N5457, i'm sure there's a tonne of alternatives, if you don't mind that.

Reversing the polarity of a Fuzz Face is pretty straight forward.
  • Swap the +ve of the battery jack going to the stereo jack with the -ve going to board
  • Swap the polarity of ALL electrolytes (ie, just flip them around)
  • Replace NPN transistors with PNP transistors and vice versa.
REMEMBER! there's NPN equivilents of almost all PNP's, and PNP equivilents of almost all NPN's, eg, AC127 is the NPN equivilent of AC128.

That's much easier than fiddling around with IC's, trying to get cap values spot on and biasing them just right, AND, you'd need a heatsink for the IC.

In terms of powering multiple effects, you might want to consider a charge pump to boost the power so they're both getting a nice ammound. Alternatively, use a DC Jack.

Try spray mount. If you do your design in Photoshop, for example, and print a mirrored image onto THE ROUGH SIDE of acetate, you can cut it and spray mount it on BEFORE DRILLING to get a really great finish.

I left them out from the breadboard. In the finished version i will include them as an actual pot, or as a switch with the two most useful values.

I thought they are odd.

I gonna use a DC jack, thats for sure. Thats why i made a little filter circuit in DIYLayout Creator. Here:

BEWARE! THERE IS A CUT HIDING UNDER R1 @ A4.

It's a Beavis Audio creation btw, i hope it will remain useful with a 47uf cap at C2 because i have loads of 47s but i have only two 100uf cap.

I meant the actual poulated PCB. Is there a easy way to stick it to the box, or i shouldn't bother with it?

That sounds good, then i skip that.

And a bit whining at the end:

Why does better 3pdt-s costs half of the whole pedal?

i got bored of 3pdt's. I don't need an LED to tell me when my pedals are on.
