US Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs Airplay Chart Dated 2 April 2016:

#1 'Sound of Silence' Disturbed (Songwriter Paul Simon 1963)

#2 'Reapers' Muse (Songwriter Matt Bellamy 2014) - *New Peak*

Prior peaking at #2 Muse songs 'Panic Station' and 'Starlight' were blocked from reaching #1 on the US Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart by 'Radioactive' Imagine Dragons for one week in 2013 and 'Pain' Three Days Grace for three weeks in 2007, respectively.
Wow, Muse's logic on releasing singles ...

Will Reapers climb to nr 1 next week?

Unlikely. The Sound of Silence is currently leading Reapers by more than 400 weekly spins at US Mainstream Rock (2100 vs. 1700) according to Mediabase. More than 60 US active rock radio stations have play-listed both tracks.

BBC Radio 1 just added Reapers to its playlist while US Alternative radio for some reason is reluctant to play it.

The 2nd Law has just been certified Gold (100,000 units) in Germany. The Resistance (Platinum-200,000 units) and Black Holes and Revelations (Gold) were certified previously in that market.

**RIAA New Album Award Formula** 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale.

TR and BHaR have therefore likely met the criteria for Platinum certification (1,000,000 units) in the USA while T2L has met the threshold for Gold certification (500,000 units) taking into account track sales and streams. Absolution along with TR and BHaR have already been certified Gold.

Drones - Latest Album Chart Movements for Week Ending 24 March 2016

#13(-6) Belgium Wallonia (42 weeks)

#27(-13) Netherlands (42 weeks)

#29(-3) Portugal (20 weeks)

#54(-5) Spain (32 weeks)

#71(-2) France (39 weeks)

#72(-14) Italy (34 weeks)

US Alternative radio in a lot of areas is sadly slanting way in favor of more Coldplay, X Ambassador type rock.
Reapers sounds "old fashioned" honestly, even for a rock song. Definitely classic rock feel.

I am quite impressed it's had such an impact on the mainstream rock charts, considering the extensive falsetto.
I'd like to think PiB not being released for far less was such a long time ago... but then again, a lot of the stations' playlists haven't even changed that considerably since then.

Interestingly, Muse's tour skipped most of those states on the US tour...

Didn't even come close to many.

Great time for small, rock oriented gigs...
Never going to happen.
