I always remember getting a bit baffled by some of the early stuff by Rush and The Mars Volta regarding time signatures and weird solos and stuff but there is usually a pattern there when you look at it closely, however bizarre it might be. There's definitely a pattern in the Biffy intro too, and I usually get most of it, there's just those odd moments where I come in a note or two too soon, and it's like "ARRRGGHHHH!!!"

What confuses me sometimes is that they seem to do it differently in different live performances sometimes - not sure how they keep so in click with each other on it, apart from endless practice, haha!

Every time I've seen them perform it live (3 times this year) and the performances on youtube are basically all the same though, except that this tour they have this 30 second silence in it. Which is not too hard either.

James, what was that slide that you're able to velcro behind the headstock? The one with a flat side for the velcro strip that Matt uses for Invincible?

do you need a flat side? Surely if you just stick a bit of velcro on it it would stick anyway? Velcro is magical

Yeah, but I remember there being one that's specifically made to stick on the back of your headstock which would be really useful for me. If not I'll just keep them in my pocket like usual.

You act like I actually know the answer to this

Never knew flat slides existed!

Also, ellliottt tonemeister or pre-65 jazzmaster. Which one would you choose? If you didn't already have both

I remember discussing it on here at some point. Any way you can use your master search skills to find out?

Also...hmm. Toughie For you, I'd probably lean towards an Elliott. Not sure you'd really love all of the quirks a Jazzmaster has. You'll also have to deal with Andy Elliott's timeframe, but I think you'll like the guitar better.

They're not specifically for headstocks though are they? Thought they were just lap steel slides?

Do not see why you can't just stick some velcro on a normal slide? I swear Bellamy's is just a Dunlop glass slide with a bit of velcro stuck on

Right, looking to record some rough demos, will using a 1/4inch to USB to go from headphone socket on the amp to a computer and using something like Reaper for recording software work at all?

Again, rough quality is all I'm after.

I don't see why not. I'd probably go from headphone socket to the mic input on the computer though, just to avoid anything being incompatible.

Also, Lozo, I found a DC plus locally-ish. Not sure what color it is, but it's a flame top from 1998, so definitely not a lite. Might go and check it out (buy it) later.

Not sure yet. Probably the Gretsch. I ordered 2 of them so we'll see.
