Is that the magic heat-responsive paint thing?

That or he's put a handprint in the paint

Looks great, is that white part also just from heat? (or a reflection?) I'm assuming the whole thing is black

is it black underneath and then the white is the top layer that "fades" when heat is applied? or vice versa?

very cool either way.

its black normally, then white underneath. the handprint is in black because my hands were cold.

it started off with 19 degree paint, but it never went dark, it was always white. then i got some 30 degree stuff and now its a struggle to get it white. but its started being cold now so that doesnt help

Whoa, long post time on my half.

I've decided for my bass that I want to make changes to a few of my original ideas and go for:

- Ditch the sound-hole but still make the bass chambered for weight. Really need to keep the bass light so I don't get a worse back than I already have.
- Rosewood fretboard with a small slap ramp. I didn't realise how convenient it was until someone here mentioned it.
- QLD Maple Body with a spalted maple top. I feel like getting a top cover like this. It'll require a bit of prep work with CA glue to stiffen it before I can use it as a drop top but that's the price I'm willing to pay for having it...
- Tru-oil finished since access to spray gear will be difficult and I can capitalise on our summer's 40C degree heat

Thing's I'm tossing up about:

- Choosing black or gold hardware. I've mentioned before my distaste for gold hardware since it seems to fade quite quickly under my hands but it might look so damn good with an oiled natural finish that I can't pass up the opportunity. Black will most likely look good with an oiled finish too but I feel that it *could* cheapen the look. I want bling
- J/P pickups or one soapbar pickup. The original idea was to go for a soapbar because I like doing a bit of slap and generally like the toan however I'm also joining a band with two good friends of mine in which I will require a substantially more mellow and jazzy kind of sound. Both my current basses have J/P pickups but they are quite present and they don't possess that mellow thud you can easily get from a Jazz Bass or equivelant.
- Active or passive electronics. I was going to have a go at designing my own electronic preamp for the pickups based off what I've learned at Uni and the natural response of the woods/guitar/pickups etc. This would take a while but I thought it would be a valuable experience for me. The idea will be treble/bass knobs and volume knobs depending on number of pickups.
- Glued neck or bolt-on. I honestly can't decide what I would prefer.

In the mean time, I've changed the design a little bit more. It's similar to my current basses so I have something to work from for my first build.

I'll need to fix the slap ramp sketch in the middle but the shape I am very settled on, especially the headstock since I didn't want one where the size was over dominating.

Now to finish saving up to get my car registered and then start planning this out.

Been thinking about a parts tele for a while now... I've now decided what I'm going for. It'l cost £250 overall

It's gonna look something like this but with a tune o matic and a gibson type kill switch on top horn.
