I think that does definitely have something to do with it.

I do agree, and I think people should be free to do what they want, as long as I'm free to think they're absolutely whacko.
Although, when it gets to the point where it makes the people involved [i.e. the band members] uncomfortable, it needs to stop.

Matt got me to start playing the piano again, and reminded me why I loved classical music so much when I was a kid. And I would love to sit around and chat about music with him, like a couple others have said.

And I can understand having fantasies and stuff but, like, when it gets written down online it is in a place where the person concerned can read it and is aware of it, so it does get to people concerned.

Therefore just a bigger chance in general of having more "intense" fans than a band with less fans. Doesn't have to mean that Muse brings something out of people that other bands don't. Every band bring something out of someone(this is sounding so weird), it's just a matter of numbers
MAYbe. Perhaps I'm just not a fan of any of the other big "popular" bands like Coldplay and U2 or whatever. Are their fanbases as crazy, like with memes and shit? And fanfic? I just don't know.

Radioheadlol, well sure. Bunch of fucking fruitcakes.

Edit: I mean, that answers the questions of why there might be a higher percentage of wackos, but I'm still not sure why they draw me in so much, as opposed to other bands. I'm not sure why I care so much.

Yes. Muse's isn't the most rabid by far from what I've seen just poking around.

I think fanfiction is creepy even with fictional characters! Have you seen the Star Trek TNG porn parody? To see Geordi La Forge sucking on some tits really made me cringe. Never watching a porn parody ever again.

Anyways, Sippe is right in that there are varying degrees in the levels of fandom that people display. However, there are also personal boundaries to respect with regards to the band and to other musicians and artists in general. They are real people and not characters/props.

And I agree, the hate towards Kate is absolutely stupid and disgusting.
I actually find criticizing their fashion choices to be great fun! Seriously -- when Matt dyed is hair bright red and spiked it, he was begging for "hair commentary". When one wears a feathery glittery suit, they're begging you to notice. Same goes for Dom & leopard print, and Chris & Pedro.

I do think there are ASPECTS of celebrities personal lives that are okay to criticize -- especially when displays of blatant hypocrisy are involved. But mostly that stuff is just ball-busting fodder.

I dunno. I don't get the "excited and emotional" thing. They're just people. Sure, it might be cool to meet them, but unless I were introduced by a mutual friend, I'd feel like a complete idiot. It would be like trying to make conversation with a total stranger on the street. -- Just weird and uncomfortable. If I saw Matt walking down the other side of the street, I'd probably just make the "devil horn" index-pinky sign at him and yell "you fucking rock!" or something like that. I'd try to make him laugh. I wouldn't try to stop him or have a conversation with him.

I also don't get the crying or hyperventilating at the live show thing. When hopefully I see Muse on their next tour, I'll have a big, fat, shit-eating smile on my face the whole time. I want to leave with ringing ears and a black & blue ass!

When you really think about it, being on .mu in the first place is a bit obsessive.

Well I don't know, I got a bit weepy the first time I witnessed Stockholm Syndrome.

I was pretty ecstatic when B&H came on. Not tears/hyperventilation but it was probably the most excited I've ever been for something.

If by some sort of freak coincidence I do ever see one of them, this is exactly what I'm going to do

And I'm putting this section in my sig:

ETA: It's not that I think the variety of fan types is bad. I'm just trying to understand the more, ah, zealous ones, I think.

ETAx2: I just noticed this thread is tagged 'more n00b wank'. Is that for me?

There's a difference between being creepy and being a fangirl. For example, the person who made the painting of a naked Matt is creepy. Waiting a few hours with a chance of meeting the people you really admire isn't creepy at all (no one has really waited 15 hours have they??).

Slamming other people for what music they like is just plain rude.

Anyway, fangirls gonna fangirl and it sounds like there's probably nothing that will make you understand why.
