With material that has had severe brickwall limiting, you end up turning it down to match the level of material which hasn't had the same treatment. The quieter material will still retain it's dynamics and this will sound better when played at the same level. That's all Soundcheck attempts to do.

The strings in CE sound like a good idea which is ironic because they sound like shit. No need to add strings to CE. Sippe is right, it only seems good because you are used to the original version. Trust me I've done the same thing as you and looking back on it I have been completely wrong.
