Although the administrators and moderators of Muse Messageboard will attempt to keep all objectionable
messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of
the author, and neither the owners of Muse Messageboard, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin)
will be held responsible for the content of any message.
By using Muse Messageboard you agree to abide by the following rules:
- Do not abuse other users on the Muse board
There will be no personal discrimination of any kind. There will be no posts meant to offend or hurt any other member or otherwise be provocative and inflammatory. Negative and critical evaluations of objective points are fine but should not be directed at the individual expressing them, or at their personal tastes. Insults exchanged between friends in jest, or otherwise with consent, are exempt from this rule.
- Do not publicly question moderator decisions
Respect requests made by moderators in threads. If your thread has been locked please do not create a new one asking why it has been locked. Instead, you should contact the moderator who locked the thread and query the reasons behind the locking. Further posting may lead to an infraction. Similarly, if you receive a warning or an infraction and wish to question it, contact a mod rather than complain about it publicly. If the problem can not be resolved, then the moderator and user must send their positions to the forum admin. An admin will make or change any and/or all final decisions.
- No spam
Spamming and excessive off topic posting is not permitted; please keep all your posts as constructive as possible. Refrain from posting excessively in a row and collate all your points in one post. Unnecessary bumping of topics is also considered spam; please do not unnecessarily bump topics, but do use search to prevent creating duplicate discussions. Remember to post in the correct forum and search first to make sure it hasn't already been posted. Large images (i.e those that exceed either the width or height of 1024 x 768) should only either be linked to or posted in "hidden" tags as they stretch the threads making them difficult to read.
- Keep content legitimate
Piracy, copyright violations, or any other illegal transactions may not be linked on the board. Links to commercially available music and materials are also deemed as illegal. Posting links to or otherwise making available upcoming ("leaked") releases will result in an immediate temporary ban. Discussion of leaked material intended for official release is forbidden until that materially has been officially released. The guidelines for the use of MuseBay should be considered an extension of the board rules which must be adhered to.
- Adult material
Pornographic or other adult content may be linked to but must use "NSFW" (not suitable for work) tags in order prevent content being immediately displayed and to keep it out of the viewer's cache. The posting of pornographic links should only be used for topical/comedic purposes or if it is otherwise relevant to the discussion; this message board is not a pornography site. Otherwise we do not limit what may be discussed so long as it does not conflict with any other board rules.
- Do not register another account
Do not register more than one account for yourself. The reason for this is to stop users registering secondary accounts to abuse users or to get around a ban or otherwise avoid identification. Therefore if we discover a user having multiple accounts, we reserve the right to ban not only the secondary account but all the accounts. If your account is temporarily banned and we find you have tried to register a second account, your ban will further extended. If you believe that you have an acceptable reason for a second account or have trouble logging in please contact an administrator first.
- Keep your nose out of band members private lives
Avoid speculating, discussing or questioning aspects of the band members personal lives, such as relationships, children, private photos, etc. The way to determine what is private and what is acceptable is if a band member has themselves mentioned the item in an interview or similar media and only to the level of detail that they have expressed. In addition you may not post paparazzi photos unless they are taken as part of the publicity for an event.
- Do not knowingly post false information about the band
Do not create false information about the band in order to sincerely mislead other users. We want to ensure that information shared regarding the band is factually accurate. Additionally, do not link to or otherwise share fan fiction regarding the band or anyone closely associated with them as this content is not appropriate for the band's official message board..
Many of the board systems are explained in the FAQ, but here are some guidelines to help keep you in line with the board rules.
- Dealing with problematic posts
If you believe someone is being abusive or the content of a post is unacceptable, use the report a bad post button so a moderator can look into this rather than responding to it. The moderators review and discuss every report we receive. Retaliating in an equally negative manner will only serve to get you in trouble too. If you do not like what another user is posting but do not think they are breaking the rules, feel free to report it anyway, or put that user on your ignore list.
- Be polite to the new members
We ask that you make the effort to be courteous to new members while they find their feet on the board. A new user making mistakes is not a reason to abuse them, instead inform them in a polite and positive manner or alternatively ignore it until a moderator fixes the problem. Abusing new members will not be tolerated, and this will be considered an infraction of rule 1 and you'll receive a warning or infraction points for this.
- Be respectful of existing members
There are a lot of long term members of the Muse fan base who are very knowledgeable about the band. We ask newbies to try and understand the community and the Muse board rules. Spending some time reading and watching before making your first post will help you not make a faux pas and end up with a target on your back! And do take your time to look at other topics and see where your topic should go. If your topic is placed in the wrong forum, it will be moved by a moderator.
- Do not publish your contact details
We advise you not to post your contact or financial details in public, especially mobile numbers, you may well get weird people contacting you when you do it and you could be at risk from identity theft or fraud. In many cases, people will ask you if you are Matthew Bellamy and when you’ll be touring in Turkey. We will delete such posts if we see them.
- Err on the side of caution
If you're not sure if something is okay or not, it is best to ask a moderator first and have another read of the rules. Be mindful who might read your post too. The Muse fan base is composed of people from all backgrounds and something you may intend on being innocuous can easily be misinterpreted if its context isn't made clear. Insults are often exchanged insincerely between friends, but this does not always translate well to an outsider, so we may require additional information when dealing with reports. Similarly, some jokes do not always translate well to text on a screen, so be wary that not all users will interpret things the way you intended.
- Communicating with the board staff
The board has a team of staff from around the world who are happy to help with any problems you have. We are not, however, closely associated with the band and most of their management team, so requests to contact band members etc. will not be fruitful. Erroneous infractions are very rarely given as they are decided upon by multiple mods before being issued by one, but if you receive a warning, infraction or ban that you think may been in error do not hesitate to contact the mod team explaining why it was in error.
- Getting in contact
Staff can be PMed in the regular manner. If you cannot access the board because you are banned contact the admin team at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org giving as many details as possible.
In addition to the rules and guidelines above the staff at the Muse Messageboard reserve the right to remove, edit, delete or close any thread or post. They also hold the right to ban members from the forum at their own discretion.
