One of the supervisors at work is leaving, and a couple of other supervisors are pushing me to take his place (one went to the boss-boss and said I'd be most capable). I'm not sure I want to be a supervisor, but I need to express my interest in a letter (followed by an interview). What should I put in said letter?

I still apologise for the awkwardness. I'd blame your friend, but then I'd feel mean. I'd blame me, and that's probably true.
