i didnt like the last one, i think it was way too commercialised and even toned down for Eminem,
other rap i like includes, NWA, Dr Dre, 2pac and Snoop Dogg, also Death Row Records had some good people on their label,
but none of this new age 'pop-hop', pah to Nelly and Jay Z :mad:

He's a singer/rapper/solo artist. Although the person is being very small minded, they have a point, you shouldn't shut them off because their partially right. Mostly right actually.
And for lyrical content, he's singing bout what everyone wants him to sing. Rape, Murder, Killing etc. Because kids between the age of 6 and 16 think that that is cool. Thats why he sells. He's a trend. He'll ware out. He's no genius. He can write, he can wrap, he can't create masterpeices though!
Who called him Bob Dylan? Who can say that - their not at all doing the same sort of music. The only thing they've in common is there frikkin male. That is the biggest pile of shit i've ever heard.

If people actually looked further into the genre they'd find that Eminem is not by far the only one, just that he's famous and on 10 yr olds walls that he has to cut his tongue off, metaphorically speaking. Yeah sure he has some bad points but he got famous doing what he's doing now, its not Eminem that is the problem its the people who cant handle him. At least he's venting it through his music and not actually carrying out homophobic attacks. Seeing as my ''top 5'' bands are Radiohead, Muse, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Nirvana, me leaping to Eminem's defence may seem a tad strange :p
A lot of the time, I have kinda looked down on him as I generally do to rap in general; I dislike that whole genre of music, finding the songs difficult to relate to and lacking in guitars...
But recently, me and one of my (muse loving) buddies, decided to have a listen to the famous ''Marshall Mathers LP". To cut a longish story short, the album is fucking brilliant. It's full of HUGE irony (he starts off saying he doesn't give a fuck what people think of him, then the rest of the album is about him and his image), great rhyming, and some of the darkest, most intelligent songs I've ever heard.
Take everything with a pinch of salt (e.g see Kim as a ''horror song'' or something), and I think it's really enjoyable.
Don't take him seriously, and you'll realise how great he is :)

It's full of HUGE irony (he starts off saying he doesn't give a fuck what people think of him, then the rest of the album is about him and his image), great rhyming, and some of the darkest, most intelligent songs I've ever heard.
Take everything with a pinch of salt (e.g see Kim as a ''horror song'' or something), and I think it's really enjoyable.
Don't take him seriously, and you'll realise how great he is :)

O yeah, forgot about that, essentially its a demo, as it wasn't widely released and was mainly used to try and get his foot in the door with radio companies and producers. Imo Its decent, but the underground tapes that used to float about were well better, as were the underground D12 stuff. Infinite doesn't see as honest as some of his other stuff, you can tell hes "trying" to make it, if you know what i mean.
I think i may have liked it more if all the people who tried to be elitists when he first got big over here didn't build it up so much.

I've just been marvelling at something recently. Eminem's mixtapes- I have the two Benzino disses- are actually a whole lot better than a lot of his stuff, especially on Encore and some of The Eminem Show. I actually admire how much he's won as soon as he's started them. I thought they'd be lower quality than some of his album work,but I was mistaken.

Ah those two are the two you need. Fucking lyrical murder. From the top of my head, I think Bully is another Benzino diss. Pretty much anything released between 02 and Like Toy soldiers has bars directed at him too lol.
Yeah there's plently of good songs. Diss-wise, you have Quitter and Girls (Evalast disses) that are awesome and you should check out if you haven't already. Go To Sleep (with Obie and DMX) is awesome too.

Honestly, you've never liked Eminem if you can't find a single song you like on here. It has it all.
Deja Vu is just straight real-talking and my personal favourite, Beautiful is pretty much a cross between When I'm Gone and Sing For the Moment, and Underground could be straight off of MMLP. There's a high lyrical standard throughout, and lots of humour (as in wit and not farts).
My only complaint is that Crack a Bottle is very poorly placed, and the first half is heavy with samey content. Ironically moving CaB up would have fixed both problems.

1.Dr West (skit)
A great opening that really sets the tone.
2. 3 a.m. – 8/10
Sounds best after listening to the Dr West skit. Good lyrics and production. Misses out on standout greatness due to the chirpy vocals.
3.My Mom – 8/10
Unfortunately retreading old ground, Eminem once again shows off his talent for switching personas mid-rap, and it’s a winner. I was relieved to hear his harder vocals for this track.
4.Insane – 8/10
Really interesting backbeat. A very solid song that doesn’t outstay it’s welcome, especially considering it seems to be about his dad/step-dad raping him...
5.Bagpipes from Baghdad – 4/10
Just stupid. It sounds like he just picked an idea out of a hat and made a song out of it. I wanted it to end.

Don’t take it seriously and it’s enjoyable. It’s good old comic genius, but the chirpy vocals can be pretty damn annoying though. Some of the jokes are getting old.
10.Medicine Ball – 5/10
Old, old jokes. Christopher Reeve is right- you really are taking this shit too far. Production is decent but uninspiring.
11.Paul (skit)
Paul’s ‘apology’ doesn’t make up for Medicine Ball.
12.Stay Wide Awake – 8/10
Some of the best lyrics so far- great, psychopathic black humour. Sufficient back beat. Frustratingly, it falls short yet again of greatness.
13.Old Time’s Sake – 9/10
Wow, Dre sounds amazing on this record!! Eminem performs well too- he’s starting to sound like he used to here. Beat is minimalist and works.
14.Must Be The Ganja – 7/10
Really can’t complain about this song, doesn’t stand out much either, but it’s listenable!
15.Mr Mathers (skit)
Sets the tone again. A nice wake-up call from the drug spree of the last few songs.
16.Déjà vu – 9/10
The organs work so well in this song, and the seriousness of Eminem’s drug problem is so clear here.
17.Beautiful – 10/10
What is it that makes slow, wailing electric guitars and rock singer choruses and Eminem such a good combination? Eminem ‘sings’ and it actually sounds good! Really lovely low vocals, and the lyrics are excellent- it’s such an honest song. It’s like a more down-to-earth rap version of Christina Aguilera’s song of the same name. Beautiful is the most unique, new song on the album, and a real sign of hope.
18.Crack a Bottle – 8/10
Eminem and Dr Dre are really strong in this song, and it’s got a good chorus. 50 cent’s inclusion loses marks as he fumbles his lyrics, which is disappointing after his relatively good performance on Encore.
19.Steve Berman (skit)
Eminem stays cool. I don’t know about you guys, but it’s sorta admirable to me.
20.Underground – 9/10
Furious rapping and obscene, disjointed imagery. The backbeat screams impact. It’s so reassuring to hear that Eminem can still rap this way, as he finally abandons his drug problem with this song.
Relapse is altogether quite a strong album, about as good as The Eminem Show in my opinion. It’s got a couple of crap songs but most of them are solid, and songs like Beautiful and Underground assured me that Eminem still has it. Having Dr Dre produce much of the album was a good move! An 8/10 album from this listen, and hopefully a sign of a return to form. The thing that worries me is that the whole ‘drug problem’ topic is now spent the way I see it. Will Relapse 2 be a relapse of Relapse?

He admits this- he sings for half of 'Hailie's Song' and says repeatedly in it that he can't sing. In 'Beautiful' on the latest album he sings and it actually sounds quite good. He's not an great singer but he can hold a note.

I appreciate it a bit more now- that was only a first-listen review- but I still don't like it much.
I wish people weren't so stupid and generalise rap to be shit just cause they've heard a couple of 50 cent songs. There is some brilliant rap music out there, if it's not to your tastes it doesn't make it crap as it can be lyrically brilliant. I guess it's just "cool" to say rap is crap :(

I remember staying up till 4am to watch the Up In Smoke Tour when I was younger, that was brilliant!
He doesn't seem eager to get back into touring at the moment. Maybe after he's been clean for some more time.

Relapse is really quite good. Nowhere near the quality of his earlier stuff but it's hardly a disaster to have a really very talented rapper bringing out some decent tracks, instead of worrying about the past. He's still very good with lyrics, just a bit more conservative.
And no joke, The Eminem Show has some stellar tracks, it just isn't as solid as the two before it. :)

I honestly think Relapse is Eminem back on form. I'd rank it 4th but it's closer to the early stuff than I ever expected. Relapse 2 is said to be better still, I only hope it does come out this year as promised.

Really? Admittedly it wasn't as good as his early work, but Encore is a bag of wank. Though not consistent, I think Relapse has some great songs (Insane, Medicine Ball, Beautiful and Underground) and some fun ones.
I do hold out a hope that he saved his better work for Relapse 2 though.
On a sidenote, has anyone become a fan on fb? He seems to spam it with wanting to win all these competitions. I'm not sure if it is him or his managemant, but I guess it sure means his ego hasn't deflated much recently!

I'm worried about Relapse 2, mainly because I think the current material doesn't have staying power. It could be good yet, mind, it's still an Eminem album, better than most mainstream rap where the subject is always money and tits.

Just been watching some of the vids of him at T in the Park, and it's got me right back into Eminem :D
Used to absolutely love everything he did, then went through a phase of thinking it was too chavvy, and then re-found the awesomeness. Havn't got the new album yet, but I havn't heard a single bad thing. Good to see him going back to making some better stuff!
