Does anyone else cry with laughter when they see this show?
Because i sure do. Makes me fall on the floor most of the time.
I would even go as far as to say its better than the simpsons... and futurama......... put together.
I love it so much. I have the 1st and 2nd series on DVD and i watch them all the time.
Peter is so funny. and he makes Homer look skinny.... and unfunny.
Stewy is hilarious. Such an original idea for a character.
Brian makes me laugh so much. A talking dog is even crazier than a talking baby.
Everything about this show makes me laugh.
And the jokes are so smart and original

homer.
ah yes, but Peter in family guy more than makes up for him.
I mean he's fatter and stupider (is that a word?)
I think one of the things that makes family guy so funny is the flash backs they always have. They can be so random.
how much of family guy have you watched? (just out of curiousity)

Homer is funnier because his jokes usually have far more comedic value, and sometimes have more than one level to them - in fact - most of the time, they do. Whereas Peter just depends on randomness and some comedic value - I'm not saying he doesn't make me laugh, because he does and I'm definitely not saying that Family Guy isn't an extremely hilarious show, because it is and I have all the DVDs within my house. I just think Homer's more of a funny character.

Thats fair enough.
I think they have two different kinds of comedy behind them.
But ive got to say, in the last few series of the simpsons, homers comedy has got a bit... repetitive. I mean i used to laugh all the time but now i know exactly whats gonna happen and what hes gonna say because its been pretty well recycled now.
Im sure the same will happen with family guy in a few series time though.

A few series time will be too late. They only have a contract max. for 35 episodes and i'm nearly sure they're taken about 14 of them away if the movie goes ahead.

You are aware this show was cancelled, right? But it was brought back because of the success of the DVDs nationwide. Then FOX decided to give them 35 episodes, which they may or may not take some to transform into a cinematic experience.

You know why I'm not posting views on Family Guy vs. The Simpsons? Because I've done it so many times already in other threads.
Although I will pleasure you with the odd Family Guy quote here and there:
Brian: Hey. Uh, how do I say this? Me llamo es Brian.....<Speaks Mexican>
Mexican guy: Hey, that wasn't bad. But when you said "Me llamo es Brian", you don't need the "es" - just "Me llamo Brian".
Brian: Oh, you talk English!
Mexican Guy: No, just that one sentence and this one explaining it.
Brian: You....you're kidding, right?
Mexican Guy: Que?

When I first saw another adult themed cartoon advertised I kinda did a "yippee" but then the preview showed Peter saying "I'll have the Fajita (Fa-jy-tah)" and I thought, "Oh my God, they've been following my father!" I remember my dad actually said that when McDonald's had their breakfast fajitas. I was so embarrassed. He says everything wrong. Like Nintendo, he pronounces is (Nine- ten- dough). We make fun of him all the time. But I swear they modeled him after my dad... looks and all. HAHA!
Seriously my brother now has me hooked. He has the dvd's.
I think my favorite episode is when they get superpowers from the toxic waste.

Peter: what?

Lois: please just tell us the results
Doctor: these results are terrible, my son got a D!................I'm afraid that liver will have to come out..........its been in the microwave for 5 minutes, it'll go hard
Lois: no more, please just tell us how peter is

i want all of you to take a deep breath and think carefully, the new episodes of the simpson, vs the old ones, honestly past season 7 of the simpsons i cant laugh at them, the most recent one i laughed at was the ricky gervais on, and its was one joke at the start and the rest of it was crap. it was the bit where carl goes "yeah a party at lenny's could go on all night wooo" "god is that the time i gotta go to work tommorow i better go to bed, cya" that was funny, but i think that futurama is funnier, and then american dad and the family guy, american dad is almost the same as familiy guy, and infact futurama could be better but i still like it, but family guy is just the best one. i mean come on, what about the episode where brians talking to the pregnat woman and cleevlands wife about her cheating on cleaveland and then gets attacked by a giant chicken then they do all these famous movie fight scenes for like 10 minutes and then the chicken gets killed in a jet engine and peter goes back to the ladies and satrs talking as if nothing happend.

'Family Guy' was indeed one of the funniest shows when it started airing, then it was canceled and it got picked again for being a great show.
However, I have to say that ever since it went back on the air, the pop culture references keep getting lamer and lamer. I agree completely with the 'South Park' creators that the excessive amount of flashbacks and references is annoying.

With the new BBC3 series there are ups and downs.
Stewie and Brian have become more involved which is good but the show has gotten more random. Chris is less involved (:(), Meg always tends to have her clothes off (), Peter has become more stupid than ever before (:D) and Lois has become a sex addict. The same thing happened to the simpsons. They gradually got less funny over time

In the beginning I didn't have much expectations about 'American Dad', but it has grown on me indeed. I certainly love the fact that it has no flashbacks, and the pop culture references are rather subtle.
'Family Guy' on the other hand has gone downhill since it was brought back on the air. Every here and then we get a brilliant episode, but those fuckin' flashbacks are killing the show.

I was saying to my mate how the main difference is the flashbacks, and we came to a conclusion that FG is funnier, but that's probably because our humour is more immature than other's, where as other aspects of our lives are a lot more mature than most. I love the little touches, like the pimped up tie fighter and the scene talking about the death star's vent with Darth Stewie...

"Well, uh, there's a vent, sir, it's only tiny, just two metres across..."
Adam West: "Why, that's no bigger than a wumprat"
"Yeah, but if you shoot a missile into it, it destroys the space station."

I watched Blue Harvest the other night. I think my Star Wars love made it even funnier than it probably was meant to be.

I cannot explain what this show means. Even with severe depression, if i can at least have it on, it always gets at least a smile out of me. The only thing that does. And the only show i can watch the same episode more than thrice.
The humour is divine. I love how offensive it is, and often it reflects what i think so accurately (i'm female! just about.)
Seth MacFarlane is, to me, one of the most important people on the planet.
Sometimes at home i find myself behaving in ways that i just think..."someone's been watching too much family guy."
Plus, all week, i've had in my head...
"I hanker for a hunka CHEESE!" xD
Funniest stuff. Plus it's all true. Especially Ground Zero - Brian's explanation then Peter saying we should bomb Iran xD Wow.

I find it horrendously one-dimensional.
It delivers hugely on bizarre, laugh-out-loud moments but aside from that, it has little else to commend it, except the wee, pertinent, political digs they slip in.

i liked the first 3 seasons and then it just was the same joke over and over.
my favourite episode was the willy wonka rip off.

These thoughts are my thoughts.
Ultimately, I find it insulting. It's a bunch of very talented people celebrating the spoils of their own laziness.
A few things have started to piss me off, like the way Meg is treated but eh....I still find it funny, sometimes. Sometimes it is the same old shit but occasionally something will come along that makes me laugh again.

Problem is that The Simpsons set the bar so so so high for such comedies and it's very difficult to reach those heights. I don't find the as engaging, the humour lacks subtlety and a constant barrage of off-the-wall, random laughs just gets tiresome after a while.
That said, every episode does deliver a few laugh-out-loud moments which are awesome when you stumble in from the pub and sit down to watch it for an hour or so .
I think it's only really the visual gags/flashbacks from the "set ups" that I find funny anymore. A lot of the comedy in the main thread of the story just tries too hard.

I used to think The Simpsons was amazing. Classic. Since watching Family Guy, i've realised how naff The Simpsons can be. Its a completely different level. Not great, but entertaining at times.
Family Guy is wittier, more human, more honest, and more open. Clever. Stupid. Random. Everyhting. Insulting. Which is the best. People need to be insulted.

I don't think anyone has ever been as wrong as you.
Family Guy is complete crap. It takes all the elements from other successful TV shows, blends them together and it comes out shit.
It's not witty. It's not human. It's not honest. It's not insulting.
It's shit.

It's not insulting, it's not honest, it's not human, it's not original, it's not even pretty. But the whole point of family guy is that everything is there to prop up the jokes; sure, its not the complete package, but it does what its supposed to, make people laugh.
I'd much rather have a comedy that focuses on the humour, unlike every other American sitcom where after 2 series, the humour is there to support the story.
As for whether its funny...well that's obviously subjective. If its subversive then its concievably humour; so all this "it's empirically shit" bullshit is pretty dumb.
Having said that Simpsons > Family Guy because it used to weave the human elements to the humour so masterfully.
I think a lot of people are forgetting exactly how awesome the Simpsons used to be before it hit the death slump its in right now.
I would take earlier Simpsons over Family Guy for sure.

I probably would too. I mean the rate at which some of the old episodes get recycled by the TV stations is horrible, but I find myself laughing at the episodes that I've seen more than 10 times than I do with some of the new ones.

I'd rather watch Family Guy over The Simpsons 100% of the time.
Never have, and never will find The Simpsons funny.
I find Family Guy's mainly considered better by people because it's much more adult humour.

The Simpsons from the 90s were probably the most clever and wittiest TV that has ever been written and produced. 'Family Guy' came at a time where writers for The Simpsons started running out of ideas, and TV viewers were looking for more adult humor on animated sitcoms.
Nowdays 'Family Guy' seems to be running out of creativity because writers have excessively used pop culture flashbacks, and the most cringe worthy ones are those where they criticize other shows like '2 and 1/2 Men' for not being funny. Yet this exactly what has been making 'Family Guy' unfunny for the past few seasons.

Hah well personally I'd agree there. Overall I've grown to love Futurama the most. The below-standard films haven't quite killed it for me yet.
