It wasn't as good as I hoped it'd be, you didn't miss too much. No new info was on it, it was interesting, but nothing you probably didn't already know.

Yep,they still rule and they will always do that.
Abba's music has a lot of classic inside, same as Muse.
That's what coughted my ear when I first heard Bellamy's music.
The guys are extremely talented in composing/recording and producing music.Apart of course of the wonderful live acts.
Muse and Abba are my absolute favourite Bands. So different and alike at the same time.

Ring, ring, why don't you give me a call? Seems to me now that the dreams we had before are all dead, nothing more than confetti on the floor. Under attack, I'm being taken - about to crack, defenses braking. Knowing me, knowing you - ah-haaaaa....
I do love some of the more obscure ABBA songs :P

And I do love that album cover :P One of my favorite albums of all time, although as far as ABBA goes Super Trouper was better metinks. The Winner Takes It All....what a massive tune.

Here in the U.S. it's embarrassing to say that you like ABBA.
I think the rock oriented audience in America is just way too pop biased. I admit that a lot of pop music is disposable, but there is a lot of good pop out there. For your typical American rock fan who listens to Led Zeppelin, The Who, or the Stones it's way too hard for them to admit that there was indeed great pop.
ABBA was a great pop band. Looking past the horrendously cheesy on stage outfits, and the crappy choreography, ABBA was a band that created great songs. I was raised listening ABBA because my parents love them, and listening to their songs always reminds me of my childhood.

If someone asks me if I like Abba, I always say yes. I grew up on their music, and it's still a major influence on me because most of my favorite bands are Swedish.
And you must agree it's quite fun to sing Fernando in Spanish loudly, and drunk.

I thought this thread was let to die...
apparently not.
Mneme
17-02-2008, 12:54 PM
Heh, yeah...it's been given a blood transfusion...let's see how long it lasts!
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned a bias against pop music...basically true, depending on who you talk to--clearly on a board like this, devoted to a band that can certainly be called hard rock or prog rock, you may have some difficulty finding people who like pop, or at least are willing to admit its existence and the talents of some of its stars...hmm, phrased judiciously enough?
And now it's my turn to hedge ...I don't love everything ABBA recorded...of course, does that ever really happen with any band?--being completely honest!...however, I do love a whole bunch of their songs, more than one or two hits, and much more than I ever expected I would! I love just about every track on ABBA Gold (19 songs, at least on my CD)--and even those I don't particularly fancy, like Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (sorry--though the song is rather sad, I find it just sounds pretty silly)...I know, I know, some of you will disagree! And of course a random reader of this post--assuming we get any random readers here  might choose to say that the entire ABBA catalogue is silly! No accounting for taste, naturally (I can hear the reply..."and no accounting for your lack of taste, you moron!")
Man this is long! I didn't start out to write an essay...it takes me a lot of space to get my thoughts down--it's a fault, as more than one boardie is aware of! :p And you know, speaking to the ABBA fans for a moment, I apologise for all the LOLs in the above--I'm not mocking the band, merely allowing myself to laugh at myself--I'm serious, but in the end I don't like sounding pretentious, so I don't mind making fun of my own tendencies--so I hope you'll bear with me and accept my apology for the facetious tone up above!
Oh--I remember! ("it's about time", you might say!) It's a problem when I try to look critically at music I grew up with--like ABBA, like the Beatles--I mean I think I have no trouble talking about songs clinically or analytically, say--but why I like the stuff--and can't not like it, so to speak--is beyond discussion for me, I'm afraid!** (And for that, since I have now stopped talking, you may be glad, dear reader! :D)
** not but that I might not give it a try anyway, lol
ABBA deserve a thread yeh :)
I love them :)

Saw them tonight, fab show! Funny and cute, and the drummer looks so much like Billy Burke!

ABBA rocks! I love them. My mum was a fan, so I grew up listening to their songs and it's just really good pop music. In general I prefer rock, something a bit harder or darker than Abba, but I also like some good and catchy pop music from time to time. And whoever wrote it, it's right, Abba is so much better than modern pop music! The girls had great voices, they could really sing, and the guys wrote amazing songs. I've always prefered Agnetha's voice.:)
Oh, I'd love to see Björn Again one day, everybody says that they're the best Abba cover band out there.

I've seen Bjorn Again :awesome:
I was obsessed with ABBA when I was younger - Gold is still one of my favourite "albums" (well it's a best of :p). My parents introduced them to me with Waterloo on holiday in Italy and I never looked back :D
Such a shame I was too young/late to see the real thing live :(

The reason why so many people seem to hate ABBA is because they don't want to listen to a band that even their grandmas find appealing.
Sure, they are poppy, radio-friendly, and quite cheesy. Yet these are still very well crafted songs.
