Songs for polar bears (1st album), when it's all over we still have to clear up (2nd album) and of course final straw are all fantastic! surprised it's taken so long for them to get recognised like this, there's some great tunes on the first albums.

Saw them at isle of wight fest and they were fantastic, can't wait to see them in brixton :D

I`m going to their concert on November 24th in the olympia. Not the greatest band, in the world, but it's just my alternate to HOTS which no one will go to. Good band. Love 'ways and means', 'run', 'velocity girl' and 'ask me how I am'.

Their DVD doesn't really do justice to such an experience, though it's still cool.

An Olive Grove Facing The Sea is such an awesome song. :)

I must be the only person who doesn't think they're brilliant.
Got the album but wasn't too impressed on the first few listens. I love the singles but i found the rest a bit samey. Had tickets to see them live in Manchester before Christmas but couldn't go due to illness. Would have liked to have seen them live though, bands i'v seen live so far usually sound a bit different to how the album sounds. Anyway, i'll be listening to it again so my opinion could change.

~screenager~
30-03-2005, 11:24 AM
Trust me, they are mental live. Keep listening to Final Straw, I know it sort of drags between Wow and Spitting Games the first few times you listen to it, but the songs become more distinct as you get used to them.
My favourites off FS are Ways and Means and Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking; my faves from WIAOWSHTCU (hell it's still a mouthful) are Black and Blue, An Olive Grove Facing the Sea and One Night is Not Enough; my favourites from SFPB are Starfighter Pilot, Get Balsamic Vinegar and Last Shot Ringing in My Ears.

Have any of you heard the b-side to Spitting Games called Steal? It's brilliant.
Oh yeah, and I love PPP as well. Nearly passed out headbanging to that in the Ulster Hall. Class gig, pure pure class.

When I first got the album last year I didn't really get into it at all. Then a few weeks later I listened again and for some reason I suddenly loved all the tracks on the album. The lyrics in many of the songs are pretty damn great. I guess my favourite are somewhere a clock is ticking, chocolate and grazed knees.

That was the one song I heard and loved instantly (apart from run). There's something about grazed knees that just does it for me. Maybe his voice, and what he is singing about. However, I can see why some might not appreciate it. I even liked the hidden track :D

I heard the new CD isn't as good as Final Straw. :( I'm not really tempted to buy it...
But why does it have to be "as good" as Final Straw anyway?

I like each album on its own merits (still hung up on how good 'When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up' is...I've had three new Snow Patrol albums in three months, good thing about getting into bands just as they are about to release!). I really love the whole sort of focus/theme of eyes of the new album. And there's really nothing like driving to Make This Go On Forever at the moment, was in my head all day at work.

It has to be as good or better then previous work. If it's worse, then I'm not buying. Seems pretty logical to me. ;)

It can be different, but I always hope it's not less then the previous one. That's all I'm saying. ;)

And I like it, ofcourse! :D

Personally, I believe Snow Patrol are an overrated band. They have just managed to live off 2 singles - Run + (especially) Chasing Cars.

Enlighten me, if you think differently.

Their older stuff is really good though. Especially the second and third albums. Eyes Open only has about four good songs and for some weird reason known only to the record company, none of them were released. They never release their best songs.

I despise Snow Patrol with a passion. They're bland and dull and no better than the likes of Westllife.

Chasing Cars makes me want to rip out my ears just to stop listening to it, the stupid verses and that dumb key change over and over is just so fucking annoying. But I do like some of their older stuff and the song 'How To Be Dead' is lovely.

Their early stuff is far superior to the last two albums I would say. Songs For Polar Bears is their best album IMO.

Exactly the same here. I really do like Run. Chasing Cars was alright but has just been overplayed now. Couple of their other songs are quite good, but apart from that nah.

Are you serious!? I am not a fan but calling them a boyband with guitars is ridiculous! They actually have to play their own instruments and have had a hard time before Final Straw. Now with McFly I could understand that statement.

I like Snow Patrol. Caught part of their IoW fest set on tv the other day and it was one of the best performances from a band over the entire weekend. Clearly not as good as Muse or Kasabian lol, or even Keane for that matter. But they could at least say they were better than The Rolling Stones on the day though. I was shocked to hear The Rolling Stones were meant to be the arguably best live band of all time and yet they sounded awful. Just like the majority of bands shown on tv.

Go Snow Patrol!

Snow Patrol's last album was poor, Final Straw is so much better. That and live they impressed me a bit. They can headline festivals, even if the music is a bit...shit.

'Chasing Cars' being played on almost every TV Drama for the past year hasn't done them any favours, but aside from that even I don't think they're anything special. They write good pop music, that's about it.

I almost forgot to post this ages ago.

They had a new album out recently...

It's not brilliant but better than Eyes Open with "Chasing Cars" which drove me up the wall and still does.

Does anyone still listen to these? Favourite song is "Somewhere a Clock is Ticking".

I like Snow Patrol based on Final Straw and Eyes Open. The latter album is excellent but the former is a bit inconsistent. I do love Run though. Having said all this, it's clear that:

Muse > Coldplay > Snow Patrol :)

I have to slightly disagree. Their first two albums are pretty pants. Their newer stuff is just pants in a different way.

Final Straw ftw.
