It's a shame that everything was lost.
oh well.
So does anyone know what the first single will be? (From Absolution in the U.S.)

I had a dream lastnight that they were gonna play NYC, Syracuse  , and Rochester

That's ok.. the other night i had a dream that I was already at Coachella and somehow they weren't on the official schedule. Then when i saw an updated schedule I missed their set!!!!! Then i saw that they actually moved them to the next day! Then I woke up.
i've had quite a few muse dreams. starting back in 2001 and they're all recorded in my dream journal. shouldn't really go into them here or you'll all think i'm a weirdo, hehe. just a sample from one of the less odd ones dating to july 20, 2002: 'muse tour dates announced on pollstar...'... hmm, someone's had the announcement of a muse tour overtaking her subconscious for too long.
oh yeah, and it's nice to see this thread back again. now i can say i've been here since the first page, hehe.

I think SS would be a great first single, but TIRO wil definitely reach a broader audience...so much for MUSE being MY own secret little band. Oh well, now everyone can enjoy their awesome sounds.
Hey, who's going to Coachella?
I really have a feeling that they will be playing some "warm up" shows before then. Well, atleast I hope so.

Ack! This is what happens when I have a week from Hell that involves no time for anything except school, dance, and OM!
Thank goodness for this thread. And actually, not *everything* was lost...I have stuff like Steph's birthday, the Mashed Potato lessons, and the attendence. Well, most of it...I've been slacking, so I apologize to everyone I'm missing!

Aww yes, Katie our official attendance taker. :D Aww, I love my birthday. We all didn't know eachother so well then, but I had the best Muse filled 14th. ^_^
I miss the old thread. :( So many memories. But thanks sstarch for starting a new one. We need it now more than ever. When the old one started all we could do was talk about how we loved them but they wouldn't come. Now it looks like there's an actual chance that they'll be touring here.

Oh but I relish in my predictability! :D
I'm actually fatigued beyond belief; I have a dance performance on Sunday, and I've had two weeks of incredibly stress-filled days, but it'll pay off soon. And Bright Eyes is the day after tomarrow, so I can't even pretend to be unhappy!
Yes, that was unfortunate, Steph. We'll just have to make up for it by being even crazier than usual this year.
Welcome, scjas! Unfortunately I'm unable to attend Coachella...but I share in your enthusiasm nonetheless.

Istya
27-02-2004, 02:20 AM
Only in imagined scenerios, sadly. But then I've only known about them for a year and a half, and a high schooler's salary isn't enough to fly to Europe. I guess in some twisted way I could be considered better off that way. I don't know what I'm missing. But I'd like to.

Yes, I've discovered having a taste in foreign bands is not only expensive, but frustrating as well. The Cooper Temple Clause are one of my favorite bands...certainly my favorite that's touring America. I was ecstatic to find out they were playing Boston; but the show is 18+. As are all the other shows in New England. Hopefully Muse will come soon, because I'm almost positive they'll play Boston.

oh yeeah i know i'm ATLEAST gonna spend a few years in europe studying.. i've had this planned out my whole life lol... and yeha i hear they're kinda known on the east coast huh? i know not 1 person who knows them.. which might be a good thing for when they come touring here. easier access!
Istya
27-02-2004, 02:40 AM
Oh, definitely. I'm more than a little interested in studying abroad in Europe.
Hmm...they're *getting* there. Very slowly. There are probably some people who know them from when they toured here back in '96, but I don't personally know any. In Boston, there is an independent radio station that plays "Time is Running Out" on a regular basis, and people seem to be enjoying it. But the only genuine Muse fans I know around here are my friends, whom I've converted. Oh, and of course there's Jenna. ;) But I do believe they have major potential to do well here.

I'm hopefully going to Europe this summer, but about a month too early for Reading, and we'll only be going to London and for two days or so, so I won't have time to see any festivals, definitely. Majorly disappointing, but well like I said I plan to spend time in Europe when I'm older.
i'll be back in the glorious united kingdom two weeks from saturday :)
i know i've mentioned this trip before, but i can't believe it's happening so soon!
i don't think any of us who post in this thread have seen muse yet, that's why we're all going so mental at the prospect of seeing them, hehe. they just really need to announce some dates aside from coachella soon so that the ones attending that festival aren't the only ones in the privileged position of having a ticket to muse.

Hi everybody in here, do you hear me :D
Steph are you planning to come to Europe for seeing Muse this summer ?
I m already planning for doing Reading at the end of August and i hope to catch the very best of rock bands there during three whole days :D
Woohooo Johnny Depp is rumored to catch the Academy Award for Pirates Of Caraibbean
Also Tim Burton was in France last month for the promotion of his new movie (due next Wednesday here i can t waiiit :p) and someone asked him about his next project Charlie And The Chocolate Factory .
Burton answered mysteriously that it would be a movie with Johnny Depp and Chocolate :D
Burton doesn t like the original movie and wants his own vision to be far more faithfull to the book .
The movie will be realeased summer 2005 in the US (and worldwide hopefully) .

HEY PHIL!
Actually, I don't think I'll be able to see Muse while I'm in Europe, as we're going on a tour of some kind, and those are usually strictly scheduled. Something like eight countries in fifteen days? It'll be crazy. Hopefully in the future I can go back on a much more relaxed tour.
Ooh I can't wait until Willy Wonka comes out. I'm curious to see how they'll make the Oompa Loompas. They were a little frightening in the original.

i know this is very random, but i was just curious if anyone knows how tall the guys in muse are? well, specifically Matt...in pictures he seems to be about 5'6 i'd say, but recently i met a guy who saw him in person and he tells me that he is only about 5'4... it just came as a suprise to me for some odd reason. i guess a sure way to find that out is to actually meet him in person, which is quite hopeless. :p

28-02-2004, 06:26 AM
Umm.. to be honest, I've never given it much thought. I would assume he's pretty short, have you ever seen the DVDs? Chris towers over him. I'm willing to bet someone in the Main Muse area will have already asked that question, or will know the answer.

I finally heard a Muse song on the radio for the first time ever tonight :) I couldn't believe my ears when I was changing stations while driving home from the mall with my girlfriend. TIRO was being played on the Y100 Cage Match (a station in Philly) Apparently it was the champion too so it had previously been played a different day. I didn't get to hear if it won tonight but it was going up against some Sugarcult song so hopefully it won. It definitely made my night to hear it. I hope I get to hear it a lot more (despite the fact that I've already heard it like a zillion times since September :) ) BTW its weird to come back to a new board and have all my posts gone. Guess I'm starting over from 1 again :)

I've never had a Muse dream. I feel deprived![/QUOTE]
I had 3 Muse dreams, two about Matt,
and the third, just last night, was about me going to the festival and trying to find out very hard, when and where the performance will take place.
I went into this hostel lobby lookinglike place and just by pure chance heard someone discussing the schedule and they were playing 2 times, specifically at 4 pm and 7pm, but I was not sure if it was that day or the next , and before I could verify I woke up... This is very similar to the one mentioned before, how weired!
Well I felt disappointed in the morning and spent some time searching and found on the Warner site, that now one can sign up for news about them:
http://www.warnerbrosrecords.com/all_list/index.php
I hope they will notify about any promotional activities, like signing
Also, here' s a press release, nothing new however

I've seen them 5 times, and one time at the festival in Germany,
and one time at the festival in Russia.
I have to say that I don't want to see them at a festival anymore - it'so short and normally one ends up waiting for 2-3 hours only to get 45 minutes of them, plus it's usually more expensive.
Their latest gigs in Europe were so much more, they now have visual effects on screens which go really well with the music, plus the black baloons, white ballons and confetti spraying machines - the whole gig is like a mad bithday bash.

Hi sweety, how you re feeling better than the last time i ve talked to you on AIM :D
Of course i m talking about Big Fish which is getting rave reviews here and i can t wait to finally watch it .
It seems a really poetic and innovative movie (as only Sir Burton can do) and since i m a great romantic i think i m gonna enjoy it a lot :)
Hey Steph tell me which days you will be in London and i will come spending a week end there for seeing you ! (serious !) .
Then i could jam with your Funkey Dad and showing him the interest to come in Paris City :D
About Muse s dreams i ve made a few of them the last months and the last one was something :
The band was playing my current two fave songs of them (Citizen Erased and DarkShines) in an arena i was into and i was singing each lyric loudly .
So loudly than suddenly in the dream i m on stage with the mic and Mister Bellamy 's guitar on my arms !
Haha then basically i m singing each lyric of Citizen Erased and DarkShines, i LOOOOVE THAT :D

Hey Bobbie! I know you've been so busy lately! But that's awesome, congratulations!
Hmm, I think that if there *were* good shows down here, I probably wouldn't be able to go to most of them because of the age limitations. So, :( .
Istya
01-03-2004, 01:46 AM
Ack at your timeload Bobbie, but it's awsome to be making measurable progress! I feel like what I do daily is so meaningless quite often.
OK STEPH: I made an effort to come in contact with certain people after the show to make them aware of Florida's rather crappy concert scene...if only I hadn't been a passanger, I'd have hung about by the bus like the sad sod I am. (More involving said subject when I can handle writing a full report.)
Mark: Grrrr  ...well not really...I'm jealous of TCTC...but Bright Eyes more than made up for it last night, and at least some people can see a decent show. It's fun by association. (?)
And I am better, Phil. If for nothing else then for going out last night. I wasn't aware concerts could be so lifting (da dun chh). :)

Ah the good old american muse fans are here tonight (bobbie katie lady yummeh piano man where s lana :p) .
Talking about concerts i m more into past bands (and artists) those days than current ones .
I ve been watching a movie called "Podium" which is about a guy who is playing a late french singer (really famous in the 60's 70's and called Claude Francois) .
Claude francois (known as "cloclo") here was unique and one of a kind : he was dancing (with his "claudettes" sexy female dancers) while singing his songs and it was really entertaining .
In the movie the character does the same, he tours France doing it with his own dancers and i was singing and needing to dance on the seat in the theater when singing it :D
Also i ve been watching the RATM s DVD in LA and it s insane .
As for future gigs , Velvet Revolver could come soon in Europe promoting their self debuted album (realease date : May 18th) .

are you planning on going to university after high school...if so i think i know where all your money will be going ;) i graduated from high school last year and i'm poorer now than i've ever been :(
My money went to Schoolkids, Wharehouse and Tower. Are they still there??? That's why I'm still in debt. hehe.
For nostalgia:
Muhaha...In an unprecedented display of boredom, I decided to see how many of us there actually are.

Bleh I listened tonight to Y100 to see if Time Is Running Out was still on the Y100 Cage Match and it wasn't. The champion was that girl that used to be in Hole (Melissa whatever her name is) I don't know when Muse lost but it was either Friday or yesterday. That really sucks. Now they probably won't play Time Is Running Out again for a while (if it all) Damn the crappy musical taste that the people have around here.

This is just a funny interview from 2000 tour in the USA.
April 20, 2000
Musing on how not to do an interview
Muse: Cute, talented British lads who dig paramotoring? Or Korn bad boys with foul attitudes? You decide.
Muse is the next big thing — at least according to all the top critics and kids in England. Their debut Showbiz has garnered praise and record sales. They've recently toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bush and the Foo Fighters.
Appropriately, the band played Fletcher's last Sunday to a small crowd of mostly teenage girls. We caught up to them on the back of their swanky tour bus, and what ensued could be used in a manual on How Not To Do an Interview. Muse thought they had agreed to a serious interview by professional journalists, and they were wrong.
Sara: What's the dumbest thing you've done since you were signed to [Madonna's label] Maverick?
Matt: Dumbest?
Sara: Have you made out with [Maverick artist] Alanis Morrisette yet?
Dom: Made out with her? No. Um ... No. We haven't met her.
Matt: We haven't met Madonna, either. That's pretty dumb. I suppose we should've by now.
Phil: Yeah, isn't there a big signing party, you know, where they invite all the other people on the label?
Matt: Yeah, but she wasn't invited.
Phil: Lame. We heard something somewhere that you guys were not into Britpop. So, what's the kind of stance on that? Do you prefer American music?
Matt: Mid-'90s Britpop was mostly about retro; it was very retro sounding, like mostly '60s bands. And, we're sort of taken to different sorts of music.
Sara: I hear that you listen to Korn.
Matt: No, I don't like them, and I never have.
Dom: [Shrugs shoulders] Yeah, I like Korn.
Matt: As far as rock music goes, I've been listening to more American bands like Rage Against the Machine and Primus sort of thing, rather than the Bluetones.
Sara: But, Korn. Seriously, they rock out.
Dom: Yeah. They're a good band.
Sara: Are you going to wear your hair like that?
Dom: Like what?
Sara: Like with the dreadlocks.
Dom: Um, yeah. I might grow it out a bit. Braid it. ... Eat some burgers.
Phil: Have you taken any influence from that stuff? I mean, do you see yourself getting more heavy as time goes on?
Matt: Um, we're influenced by a whole lot of stuff. I spent a long time doing sort of classical guitar, Spanish guitar. I think a lot of the chords come from stuff like that.
Dom: Tom Waits.
Matt: Tom Waits, yeah, Jeff Buckley, Rachmaninoff, Chopin.
Sara: Rock n' roll.
Phil: So, Liisa here has created an interpretive dance to "Sunburn." I don't have a question about that, but I just wanted to mention it.
[Awkward silence for about two minutes.]
Sara: Um... So, I hear you grew up together. Did you get into hijinx growing up?
Matt: [incredulously] Hijinx?
Sara: Yeah. Did you do anything bad?
Matt: Bad?
Sara: In trouble? Did you ever get into trouble?
Matt: Yeah. Why?
Sara: Well, what was the most trouble you got into?
Matt: Well, I used to steal cars. I got into trouble for doing that. And I got into trouble for ... I used to grow large amounts of [whispers] hash, cannabis.
Sara: [laughing] Are you lying?
Matt: [not laughing] No. I used to make my money from doing that. I did that only about two years ago. I used to grow extremely large amounts of it. But the place I lived in, the guy started to deal other drugs as well, and people started dying. So I left.
Phil: [sarcastically] Awesome.
Matt: [visibly upset] And that's cool, man, isn't it?
Dom: [on the side to Sara] I just used to do vandalism.
Matt: So, I'm enjoying the money while it lasts.
Sara: Do you have a plan for an ideal future?
Matt: Ideally, I'd like to make millions of pounds, sell millions of records, sell out, and die young. But that's not going to happen, is it? I reckon we'll probably split up in a couple of years and pack it in. I'd like to be a paramotor instructor, which is like the thing with a parachute and the pedal on your back. I'd like to teach that, 'cause that's a really good sport.
Sara: You've done that?
Matt: Yeah. I own one.
Sara: Hmm.
Matt: [very excited] Yeah, see, it's only just started up in San Diego. It started in France ten years ago. It's only become legal in America and England two years ago. It's a brand new sport. It's, it is a really good sport. And that's what I'm thinking of doing after all this.
Sara: That sounds scary. [And like bullshit]
Matt: No. no. It's totally safe. That's why it's so good. It's the safest way to fly. You've got a parachute, so if anything breaks, you just [puts hand out in flying motion] cruise.
Sara: When people hear your music, do they often say, like, "Let it go! Cheer up!"?
Matt: [Somewhat annoyed] Um, sometimes, yeah.
Sara: Do you have a reaction to that?
Matt: Well, I think that since I'm doing music, it makes me a genuinely happy person. I'm pretty content in life. I think if I wasn't doing that, I'd be a huge evil. You know what I mean?
Sara: Um, sure. [like hell]
Matt: [Getting more frustrated] It's like, when you see that sort of music, to some people it's just, you know, rough on the surface and to some people it's just a bit of a joke, you know? In fact, a lot of some people generally view other people's lives as a bit of a joke, anyway, cause they haven't ...
Sara: They don't know them?
Matt: Yeah, exactly. And some people have different tastes. That's just life. So if people say, like, "Why are you doing that?" I would say, "Why are you fucking sitting here talking to me? Why don't you go and talk to someone else?"
Sara: That's what you've got to tell them.
Phil: So, how do you guys like the road life? Cities here are a lot farther away from each other. Has the travel been wearing on you?
Matt: Not really. We've got a nice bus. It's easy days. It's a good job. I recommend it extremely. You get to travel.
Sara: Well, if you've got talent.
Matt: Well, you haven't got to have talent. We're fakes. We only pretend.
Dom: We only pretend we've got talent.
Matt: It's a hoax. Really. But enough of that.
Sara: Don't let the secret out.
Matt: [very seriously] I'm just joking.
Dom: [laughs, as if he had us fooled]
Phil: How do you guys entertain yourselves on the bus?
Sara: That's a teen magazine question!
Phil: So what?
Matt: Um, there's all sorts of ways. Usually sleeping. Off the bus, the entertainment happens.
Dom: Porn. Group sex. Orgies.
Matt: On very rare occasions. It's been very rare on the US tour.
Phil: Have you been writing material for the next album yet?
Matt: Yeah, we wrote five songs today.
Phil: Are you playing any of it tonight?
Dom: Yeah, we'll be playing a couple.
Matt: Two. Two. We'll play two tonight.
[awkward silence.]
Sara: Phil, you're going to have to ask a question.
Matt: Are you coming to the gig?
Sara: Yeah. We're coming.
Phil: When you play live, do you have it stripped down? I mean, I just saw the Flaming Lips and they're really into big performances...
Matt: Oh, yeah yeah!
Phil: ... and theatrics.
Matt: Yeah, we toured with them. I like some stuff they do. Sort of like Tom Waits does that confetti thing. I'd definitely be into that. But, no, we're not doing that now.
Phil: So, what's the best band you like to tour with so far?
Matt: Pavement. We toured with Pavement — they were good. Sort of Live, Bush...
Sara: [laughs loudly]
Matt: [laughing] yeah, Bush is really good. [stops laughing] Yeah, well, Pavement. There was us, Flaming Lips and Pavement — that was a really good tour in Europe so that was really nice.
Phil: So, who else do you think is making good music right now... besides Korn of course?
Matt: That's not me! That's him! [points to Dom].
Dom: Soul Wax. They're like Beck.
Matt: But sort of like different. [Oh, really?]
Dom: But there's not a whole lot of new bands. I've been getting into more stuff like Hendrix, the new Rage Against the Machine album.
Matt: Yeah! Rage Against the Machine. There's some good new albums. That Rage Against the Machine album, the Tom Waits album is a good album.
Phil: That's a great album.
Matt: I think that's the best one from last year.
are they making fun of them!!??

I like Mogwai, but they're far from being one of the top reasons I'm going to Coachella.
My top five for each day are probably:
1. Death Cab For Cutie.
2. Mindless Self Indulgence
3. The (International) Noise Conspiracy
4. Radiohead
5. Stereolab
1. Muse
2. The Flaming Lips
3. The Cure
4. Belle & Sebastian

sorry the board was down, here is the end of it
Sara: What's the worst question anyone's ever asked you?
Phil: Aside from ours.
Matt: Aside from yours? Oh... Maybe. Probably. I don't know. Loads of questions are pretty bollocks.
Phil: "What do you eat?"
Matt: No, I like those questions. Those are my favorite ones. Any other questions are complete bollocks. I like the ones that are like, "What do you eat? What do you do? What time is it?" The easy ones.
Dom: [laughs loudly]
Matt: I think the worst questions are the ones like, "What's wrong with you?"
Dom: Or the probing questions.
Matt: Yeah, something like the probing questions. It's fine, but they never get the answer they want.
Sara: Do you think you get less privacy now that you're rock stars?
Matt: [giggles] I wouldn't say we're rock stars at all [wearing shiny pants with a GooGoo Dolls haircut]. You get to talk to more people. But in terms of like personal life, no, it's just the same.
Sara: You've played with the Foo Fighters. You're rock stars.
Matt: No, they're rock stars. We were just hanging around.
Sara: Rock stars by association.
Phil: What's the songwriting process like?
Dom: [points to Matt]
Matt: I write the songs [to Dom] until you pull your finger out of your ass.
Dom: [lifts up finger] Yeah, that's how it works.
Sara: Do you think that, though... No, I won't ask the question.
Matt: Ask it, ask it, ask it. It sounds like a good one.
Sara: No.
Matt: Ask the question!!
Sara: Do you think that maybe your music will move in a different direction after all the critics have said that you sound like a "certain" band?
Matt: Oh, Radiohead. Oh, sorry. We're moving into a new sound anyway.
Sara: Do you think that the criticism has anything to with it?
Matt: When you see us live, you realize that's how we've sounded for ages, about a year or so. [Wow, ages.] And we chose [Radiohead's producer] to produce the band and that had a lot to do with it. And there's the fact that I like Jeff Buckley a lot and so does Thom Yorke. I think if we chose a different producer for the next album, it would be a bit different.
Sara: But would you go out of your way to...
Dom: No, everything just sort of...
Matt: You can never deliberately write in a certain way.
Sara: You can't?
Matt: You can't just sort of like make yourself into, sort of... you know?
Sara: I guess so.
Phil: I think your manager's after us.
With that, our interview suddenly ceased, as we sensed an inevitable fist fight coming on. Muse went on to play a pretty energetic show, pulling out all the rock star tricks (flashy solos, rolling around on the stage) that you'd expect at a stadium. In Fletcher's, it was downright comical. Unsurprisingly, both of their new songs sounded exactly like Rage Against the Machine. But seriously, if you like Radiohead, check out Muse. Just don't interview them.

I guess its easier for me to go to Coachella since its only a small drive there.
But i would travel for this baby.
Here's my top 5 reasons for going...
Saturday:
1) Radiohead
2) Pixies
3) the (i)NC
4) Moving Units
5) The Stills
Sunday: (much tougher for me... overall.. a better day)
1) MUSE
2) The Cure
3) B&S
4) Ash
5) The Coper Temple Clause
And that's knowing that i'll probably miss the likes of Paul Van Dyk, The Crystal Method, Adam Freeland and Danger Mouse. (I like electronica, but no way i'm missing my bands)
coachella would be nice to go to. considering that radiohead and B&S are my favorite bands. and i really need to see muse live. but i'm not going.

By the way,
I'm assuming that most bands will get about 40-50 minutes at Coachella, so do you guys/gals think they'll play just "Absolution" tracks, since technically they are supporting that album? It would be excellent if they threw in a few OOS or Showbiz tracks.
I can't even describe how excited I am to finally be able to see MUSE in concert. I think I might hurl. :D

05-03-2004, 06:15 AM
Well if they play early in the day, they'll play anywhere between 30-45 minutes. If they're closers, they can get an hour. That's the trend every time i've gone. The later a band plays, the more they'll perform.
I sure hope they mix it up a bit. Although 30 minutes wouldn't seem enough for a proper selection. But as i've said, better than nothing.

I couldn't give an accurate setlist, no. I tried to get a stagehand to give me one of the setlists afterwards, but he gave it to the people right next to me, instead. :(
What I do distinctly remember:
Promises, Promises
A.I.M.
Talking To A Brick Wall
Blind Pilots
The Same Mistakes
The Devil Walks In The Sand
Amber
Um.... As for the rest, my mind's currently blanking, though I might update that list later.
Oh, and there was a good seventy or so people there, but only a dozen or two knew TCTC, I think.
Edit:
1. Fuck me, trying to use HTML here. >_>
2. Thanks, oldy.
3. Pictures in a few moments.
AIM
Dogs
Same Mistakes
Blind Pilots
Brick Wall
Amber
Devil
Film Maker
New Toys
Music Box
Enemies
Did You Miss Me?
Panzer
Promises
Let's Kill Music
the show was just amazing.

Wonderful idea... No matter how much you like the album, they're a hundred times better live.
that is the truth. these guys must be seen live to be really appreciated....i find that their songs go off in strange directions sometimes (did you miss me is one i think does that) but when they do it live you can see the transition taking place and then its amazing.
and a song like panzer attack or lets kill music are so great live.

On another note.. i'm pissed... but not sure who to direct it to. Dish Network and Viacom are fighting each other over prices and channels. So, as of this morning, i don't have CBS, MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central (and a few other channels).

Seriously, that sucks. I'd been seeing the announcements for the past two days. That's awful, VH1 is seriously addicting, MTV2 is the only music channel I watch regularly (besides Fuse), CBS= Everybody Loves Raymond, and Comedy Central gone is just bad. Fight the power, Pete! Fight the power!

Did any of you guys read that BS review of absolution in Rollin Stone?

Yes, it's quite poor. (If anyone hasn't seen it you may do so here (http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/cd/review.asp?aid=2048351) ) Not because they don't like them, but because the reviewer obviously didn't even listen to it. They even messed up the tracklist.
I tried to retaliate but they kept saying mine was "too long," so the one that's up there now is hardly any good. At least I went out swinging.
Stephanie
14-03-2004, 05:47 PM
God, Muse has to be one of the easiest bands to review. You read one review, you've basically read it all. Did he actually LISTEN to the album? I doubt it. My new goal is to become a Rolling Stone reviewer. Get paid for writing bullshit two paragraph reviews of one of the greatest albums to have come out in 2003. And again in 2004 here in the states. At least The Vines got a proper review.
But anyway, I realize that my news will sound dull because you all have already heard them, but MY radiostation, YES, MINE, played TIRO last night. :D Okay, so it was 4:52, I take what I can get. :D

It's not that he gave it a bad review, it's that he used the same template everyother reviewer uses when talking about a Muse album. At least for me, anyway.
Istya
14-03-2004, 08:44 PM
Exactly. Absolution isn't the greatest album ever made, but it's so painfully superior to 95% of what's come out this year (or last year). And it's about 98% better than anything Rolling Stone reviews. But what annoys me the most is that it's Muse's first proper review over here, and people who have never heard them before are believing that they're a Radiohead clone, which isn't fair because they clearly arent.
I share your excitement, Steph! That's great! Your stations are so uptight; thank goodness they've seen logic!
Aw, just for you Apya (WARNING: it was 8 am and I was really under the influence of caffine...):
Have we really sunk this low? I know the American music industry regards new and unconventional sounds with trepidation, but here it seems more like they're running for the hills. Or perhaps they're taking the bus; it's much easier. The lack of research done for this review is appalling. It doesn't take much to see that Mr. Kemp is about as familiar with Muse as Britany Spears is with being fully clothed. Even the tracklisting is inaccurate (I don't know who was so misinformed as to replace "Interlude" with the band members' last names, but it's rather unprofessional). Anyone who reverts to the Radiohead comparison is desperate. Showbiz and the Bends have similarities it's true. And Muse have said that they were influenced by Radiohead. However, I find it very interesting that the album which solidified Muse as their own band is curiously not mentioned at all anywhere on the site. If anyone associated with Rolling Stone had bothered to listen to 2000's Origin of Symmetry, perhaps now they wouldn't be misinforming the masses. Since hearing that, the only band I am comfortable comparing Muse with is Queen. And with Absolution they are truly their own. Radiohead comparisons are so far-fetched and tiring, one might just be ill with them. I hate to use the comparisons even in disproving others' but it does appear to be the only way the media understands. Listen (and I mean actually listen, don’t just copy down the song titles and trust another journalist's opinion of them) to Absolution and you will be perturbed by your fallacy. Listen to "Stockholm Syndrome." Radiohead have never been and probably never will be so heavy and melodic all at once; listen to "Blackout" and count how many bands have produced a waltz tune this year accompanied by truly un-Yorke-like vocals; listen to "Hysteria" and try to rid your head of that riff; and listen to "Butterflies and Hurricanes." If you hear this song and aren't moved by its sheer bravado, or its frenzied shifts between choruses, or its thrilling reassurance that Matt Bellamy just might be the closest thing to Rachmaninov we've got (and all of this from only three people!), then I am truly sorry. And I'm sorry for all the sad people who read Rolling Stone and take it literally because they're too busy to form their own opinions. Because Absolution is what music is about. Not money or fame, but expressing the dire needs of the soul which, if done right, are very unconventional.

I'm not an angel though. When I scream, the house trembles. o_o I get into lots of arguments with my parents and my bf is going deaf (luckily, he's extremely patient, although younger so I can boss him around). I don't mind having sex before marriage and I don't want to date Asian guys. However, my mother is pretty lenient and cool about not having to change my last name when I marry. But I think she was more shocked about my bf saying that he didn't mind changing his last name to mine if/when we get married.

so this is my first post here, been a Muse manic for good time now. Anyway my buddie tells me that Muse is playing a chicago show at the metro 4/23 at midnight...I tell him to go to hell for making up such lies. I call the metro and yes it's true. I tried to post it first but it took a day to fully register...sorry for the rant but I've been nuts since this news! It takes me 10 minutes to walk to the Metro. First this and then Coachella, we may not have it as good as europe but 2 times in 2 weeks-SHITE!!!!!!

I don't think there's an L.A. show, yet. Only San Francisco, but that's after Coachella. Do you know something we dont????? PLEASE?!?!?! hehe.

I've gone to a few "events" that started at midnight before in downtown Detroit. perhaps it's a midwest thing? personally... I don't mind... just got the go ahead from my ann arbor friend to get tix (if poss)... gives us time to get dinner before gettin' to the club. oh... and also gives us time to get lost... cuz I never go ANYWHERE unless I'm gonna get lost first. it's a rule.

come to chicago? don't think it's sold out... haven't checked... yes (just checked before submitting this) tix are still available.
way to go muse... if they announce one at a time, we should have lots and lots of muse fans all over the u.s. keeling over with anticipation! (and everyone will buy up each show cuz they won't be sure if any others will be announced)
oh wow... seen the pics in the photogallery for the Sing For Absolution video? those graphics look amazing! muse videos keep getting better and better... this one is gonna be wild! does the video itself come out on may 17th?

anyone have any detailed info on the Boston show? i found tickets but i'm just curious about who else is playing and so on. Anyone know if the venue has a website?
also, it doesn't seem like there's gonna be a huge turnout...i mean, they haven't even announced on their site, i've only found one ticket retailer with it, and on top of that it's 18+. oh well.

I just bought my tickets for the Boston show. I don't know about any openers or anything though.
The Axis has a website, but it's not too good. I was just there on Friday though for a Thrice/Poison The Well concert. I've seen like 5 shows there before, and it's a pretty cool venue. Kinda small, which isn't bad.
Almost all the other shows there are all ages.

YAY! I was so concerned that it would get lost in the mail or something. just wish I could've gotten Didz to sign it... but he was too quick! he was a blur! whoosh... and he was gone!!!
some people over 21 still look like kids. I sometimes get carded and I'm *ahem* 31... soon to be 32 :( maybe you can still get away with it? if you go super early? that's why they didn't card me at the Stick... I think they thought I was just there to go bowling.

That's my last *last* resort. If nothing works, if I can't contact anyone, I'll sulk around before soundcheck and see if I can't tackle an unsuspecting bandmember and guilt him into letting me in.
BUT
Anyone who would, I'd appreciate it more than I can say if you'd e-mail this site (http://www.fnxradio.com/1/contact.asp) protesting the Axis show being 18+ (TIRO is getting lots of rotation on this station, and they'll want to know about the show at the very least). The idea is to make it seem like they'd get a huge turnout if the show was all ages. This can only be done by sheer numbers; so, again, I really need the help.
(please!)

Geez, I'm so sorry Katie. It's bad enough knowing you won't get a show, but then getting one so close and not being able to go. That's worse, I think. Anyway, I think you have a good shot of getting in. I mean, there has to be someone who'd understand, right? Mention how you've been a fan for sooooo long, and they're your ABSOLUTE favorite band. I'm sure Muse would want you there, if word got to them, they'd surely be nice enough to let you in... right? Of course. Just try. With makeup and your hair down you could probably pull it off. You almost have before. :)

are you asking about the boston date? yes, it's confirmed. i just bought tickets.
i highly suggest anyone interested in the axis show buy tickets soon. place is small, and the show will start early (they basically push you out after the show is done too, so DJs can spin records).
http://www.nextticketing.com/axis
axis is kind of small- only 1,100 people. the roxy is bigger at 1,500, and then the avalon comes in at 2,000. since the axis and avalon are owned by the same people, don't be surprised if there's a venue switch- it's happened a few times before!

i just want to add a piece of advice for anyone going to the Axis.
Get there early.
I personally hate this venue, and I have seen a ton of shows all over the Boston area. Get there early to secure a good standing spot, seriously. Otherwise you're in the back, maybe standing in back of the sound board, and it's a pain. I'd rather see these guys do 3 shows at the Paradise (capacity 500) than the Axis. (Since the Bowery only holds 600, it's not a crazy idea!) The Axis is more of a dance club than a concert venue, really, and the layout reflects it (kind of like the Avalon but on a much smaller scale).
Anyway, I'm off my soapbox! let's all enjoy the show (those of us who can get in!)

Anyone know what time it will be over? i have no problem with staying late but the kid i'm going with has over-protective parents. i'm hoping maybe if it starts at 7 it'll over between 10 and 11 maybe? I guess it depends on how many opening bands there are.

if there's 1 opening band, a 10:30 end time is what i would predict. and just based on past history with the axis, i doubt there would be more than 1 opener. who will the opener be is the question :)
