Music and TV just weren't meant to go together, in the end. :(
In some ways, it's for the best. Though we really don't need these "music" TV channels wasting space and showing absolutely mind-numbingly idiotic programs... :indiff:

Late at night. And when Michael Jackson died. That's it.

I'm watching Muse right now on Live from Abbey Road on the sundance channel. :)
Ugh, not even the "special" mtv channels are worth watching. They show the same videos again and again. It's ridiculous. My friend's band won a contest on MTVU.com and their video is supposedly in rotation now...only no one's ever seen it. Yet, the videos that they beat out get played fairly regularly. /rant

I thought everyone knew they came out on Tuesday, but apparently not. :erm:
Best Buy is starting to sell some vinyls so that would be cool if they sold the Resistance.
Ha that's probably what I'll do too, unless there's another band performing that I want to see. The only other one announced is Taylor Swift.
Pretty much! I only watch MTV in the early hours in the morning when there are a few decent music videos on.
What about VH1 Classic? Is that a good channel? I only have cable.
I don't even have cable :noey: I only watch it when I'm over someones house. I'll be making my boyfriend watch the MVAs to see Muse. He's not interested.

I don't have cable either:awesome:
I only get 3 news channels and like, 45 christian gospel channels.
Everyone in my neighborhood only watches CNN or HGTV, though....so I guess I'll have to hitch a ride to the other side of town to watch it at my friend's house or find it on the internets a day later:D

We get WGN for some reason here. :wtf:
So there are always Cubs games on, which I- as a Cardinals fan- find highly rude. :phu:

It's just one day! I'm pretty sure that if we can wait until September we can wait one extra day for the album. ;)
Excuse me, but, um, you do realize that one is equivalent to 24 hours, right? That's some 1440 minutes, son. Seriously too long to wait. I can't handle it, especially if I know all those kids in the UK already have their hands on it.

Golly gee wizz! That's a lot of minutes! And you also have to take in consideration the stupid time difference so really Europe is getting it even earlier than 24 hours before us lamo Americanos! I'm on the west coast so the only people who have to wait longer than me are those who live in Alaska and Hawaii; everyone else in the WORLD gets it BEFORE ME!

They play a bunch of rap/hip hop/R&B for their "music" portion for the US. And sadly, my sisters love most of those songs. I'm pretty sure I was adopted.

I miss the days when MTV 2 used to have video premiers on Tuesday's at like, 9pm and they were ROCK videos. Occasionally I'll still watch MTV 2 because they'll still show Jackass and Viva La Bam.

Uuughh yeah it just plays whatever sells, and when they do play rock music, it's something like Fall Out Boy or All-American Rejects. No offense if anyone likes those bands, but MTV isn't really taking any "risks" at all with their programming. It's the same videos over and over.

I haven't had cable tv or anything, so I'm kind of clueless on all of this:$
TRL went off the air a few months ago or last year, can't exactly remember.

There are so many Muse TV spots lined up in the UK over the next few days. I keep thinking we'll hear some buzz about them doing something on US TV besides the VMAs, since they'll be here anyway. Or maybe later in the month closer to the Giants Stadium gig. I'd love for them to be on SNL or other late nite show. Or even the morning news shows! Probably wishful thinking...

Oddly enough, I was just in Borders an hour ago, and they still had the Sept. issue there. It was on shelves 8/25 in the UK. When I called Borders last week to ask when it'd be in, they said they usually it about 2 weeks later than the UK. So I'm guessing we have another week. Oh, and it's 9 freakin' dollars! Gah!

I have this feeling they are going to be on SNL this go around, let's hope so. I would imagine the push that Warner is going to have behind them this time, surely they will be on at least one late night show.
If they don't hit up any US tv shows when they are touring with U2, then hopefully when they are here during their US tour and are in the LA or NYC area is when they will do a tv spot. :)

Well I just wondered about Staten Island fans because I only know 2 fans and one is my boyfriend and the other is one of my best friends. When people ask the bands I like most of them get some looks but Muse always get a look back in response. I wonder if that will change after the VMA's since they will be on MTV ( I hate MTV).So that may make people at least know there name, but I don't care I still love them, and I'm glad to see New York fans then!!

....Anyone else werided out by Muse being on the same show as Jay-Z? If not, thats fine, but... I was so excited about Muse finally getting some recognition here in the States then it kind of ruined my parade when I started thinking about why MTV here were finally paying attention. And its becuz of Twilight. Thats fine and all, every band needs a stepping stone in some situations, but I found myself confused by the performance. More of confused on how I wanted ppl to react. First off I wanted them to be blown away, then I wanted them to say "cool" and then forget (i am very selfish with this band involving our crap media), then I was mad when they werent trending very far on twitter.
And their performance of "America" was cut short! wtf?

I've been trying to join you all here for about a month now, but I had a little trouble getting my account activated. I'm so happy to finally be here! :D
I may be a total newbie here, but I'm not new to Muse. I've been a fan since '99 when I first heard Muscle Museum on a local radio station here in Seattle. I immediately fell in love with their original sound and purchased Showbiz soon after. The rest is history!
It's tough to find many Muse fans near me, especially being an "older" fan, but I'm at least happy that Muse has played Seattle a few times and they get some airplay on at least one radio station here. I'd love to meet some more fans in my area!
Cheers! :musesign:

Announcing a new social group for Musers who live or work in New Jersey: "the 'Jersey Mafia," (http://board.muse.mu/group.php?groupid=324) with a "Sopranos" avatar, no less.
Please direct all responses to this in the dedicated thread on this group (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=65882), in the Banter forum. Thanks!
Maybe I'm out of line (but I don't think so), but I don't want this subject to get lost in a 142-page-and-counting omnibus "Muse fans in America" monster thread. Frankly, the eight million Americans in New Jersey deserve better. (There's also some rather obnoxious and pushy Euros who seem to think there's no justification for this group, or a thread devoted to it, in their Brit-dominated Banter forum. Well, f--- that s---!) In any event, it's no more trivial a subject than most of what gets precious bandwidth space in Banter, a true waste of space if there is one.
So stand up and represent, fellow 'Jerseyans: post on this (in Banter) and sign up to Muse's own fan "Mafia," today!

Starting a thread specific to your state seems fine to me, but you're kinda making it seem like this thread is not worthy of existing. :erm: And sorry you're getting flak on your new thread.
Edit: Also, it seems like putting a new NJ thread on the International section would attract less negativity. The Banter section is pretty much sink or swim, imo.

Again, musemom, I agree, on both counts. What started as a social-group-announcement thread in Banter (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=65882&page=3) has grown, or devolved (depending on your POV) into a fundamental debate on the main board vs. International forum as an organizational principle.
Putting my thread in "International" was a non-starter from the start, because, as I explained in Banter, I'd never even bothered with that forum because its description made it seem like it was really for non-English-speaking Muse fans. I put it under Banter because, frankly, it seemed too trivial an issue for Other Muse Topics.
But I'm sure my announcement would also have failed had I simply tacked it onto the end of the USA thread in International. At 142 pages and counting, the thing is simply too large and unwieldy to use. As I pointed out in the other thread, it's the rough equivalent of trying to shoehorn all existing continental western European threads in International into one, and you know that wouldn't work well, either. It's not that the American thread doesn't deserve to exist; it's that we deserve better, as this single thread is utterly inadequate to our needs.
As for the negativity and sociopathology of some of the jerks in the Banter forum, all I can say on that is, I'm not yielding to any of them, much less pre-emptively avoiding a clash. As for my in-character Soprano-ish Jerseyisms, f--- 'em if they can't take a joke, and to hell with any and all of them who presume to shove American-oriented Banter-material threads into International just 'cause they don't feel a US geographical group is sufficiently Eurocentric for Banter -- when it is, otherwise, solidly Banter material.
You'll notice that in the other thread referenced above, my charming critics aren't addressing the underlying issue of the essential dysfunctionality of the one, all-encompassing USA International thread -- and until that's addressed by the board's mods in some way, it's an issue that will continue to come up, at least in Banter, in one form or another, by one poster or another...

I have a suggestion. It would probably take a group effort and I would be willing to help out and maybe we could get other's in the US thread to join in too; how about petitioning to make the US thread into a sub forum split up into states? I think it should also keep the general US thread because as much as we all like talking with people from our hometown, a lot of us still like to chat with others we've gotten to know on the board who are across the country.
As far as where to put your Jersey thread; I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions but I will reiterate what musemom said when she mentioned you belittling the US thread. If you want support from others on this thread, I wouldn't say those types of things. I can tell you that the Muse fans in America thread will not become a Jersey Mafia thread just because you and your Jersey attitude think it should.
It's a known fact that the Banter forum is a bit biased against anyone outside of the UK and people have tried time and time again to make location specific threads in it but so far it has never worked and it's not anything worth getting upset about. It seems you are passionate about getting this Mafia thread up off the ground but I can tell you posting the same thread in different locations where it doesn't fit will not help. The only way is to work with the mods in trying to find a resolution that works for both parties. They have the ultimate say so we have to work with what they will give us.

I think that's a good idea. Realistically though, 50 separate threads is not likely, or necessary, really. Maybe it could at least be narrowed down to region, ie: southeast. Or maybe states where there are alot of board members like CA or NY could have their own thread. I would be cool to have these threads as sub-forums, but like you said, a mod would have to do it. But anyone could just go under International and create their own state-specific thread I suppose. I guess the challenge is getting the word out there for people to look. Otherwise, no one will ever notice. I know of maybe 4 or 5 other GA people, but they're not contained! Any other ideas, anyone, or is it just silly?

FWIW, I agree with the direction both of you are heading with this. I'm still so new to the boards that I'm finding new things every day, so I may not be the best person to ask. I sent a PM to moderator Kev about creating a sub-forum under this thread, but thinking about it now, I don't think you can create sub-forums under a thread, just within a main topic. :$ My thought was that if there was a sub-forum titled U.S. regions/states or something, then people could create threads specific to their state, or whatever, and they would all be kept under the U.S. section instead of getting spread out all over the International section. Oh well, we'll see if anything happens. :)

Failing a truly international reorganizing of the Banter forum (and I'm not holding my breath for that), I hope this will prove the blueprint for a distinctively American presence here -- keep the general US thread for, basically, banter, and establish regional, state and metropolitan threads to facilitate local communication and cooperation amongst Muse fans.
You were a tad out of line there. First, I never wanted or intended to convert the whole thread into a NJ Mafia group thread; I never wanted to rely on this thread in the first place. I only intended to drop my announcement into it and hope a few 'Jersey Musers would see it, and deliberately encouraged would-be respondents to do so in my Banter forum thread. The very low posting rate in this thread (in recent days prior to yesterday, a little over one post per day) was one of my misgivings to being confined to this thread by the bullies in Banter in the first place: not nearly enough American Musers would ever see it!
Secondly, my critique of the impracticality of the omnibus US thread was just that and not a personal critique of the users of the thread, so don't take it personally. And as for my having a Jersey attitude, that's to a degree a fair cop, but I think anyone actually reading my Banter thread could tell I was camping it up in a totally OTT way as a "Sopranos"-inspired 'Jersey stereotype.
BION, I hadn't a clue re. any of this, but then I'm still relatively new here and I've never participated in the Banter forum, having written it off early on as being simply not my cup of tea. Now that I have some minimal experience there, I can write it off as being the domain of a bunch of teenaged chavs and their 20-something ilk, all running wild, freely engaging in xenophobic bullying tactics, and indulging in junior modding (something that's deeply frowned upon in at least some other message boards). Shame on the actual mods there for countenancing that. I daresay if a transatlantically popular [American] rock group's fan board treated U.K. fans with such open contempt and institutional double standards, there'd be an uproar from Cornwall to Newcastle, and rightly so. Where's your fighting spirit, I'd_Rather_Dance?
I have one; either that International be split between English-speaking International and non-English International on the Forum level, with the relevant national, regional, etc. breakdowns within that; or that "International" be clarified on the Forum page so as to make it clear that the distinction they intend is national, not linguistic (again, with expanded regional/state/metropolitan breakdowns). I know I'm not the only American Muser to have ignored the whole International forum because of its descriptive line referring to people there speaking in their own respective languages.
FWIW, I agree with the direction both of you are heading with this. I'm still so new to the boards that I'm finding new things every day, so I may not be the best person to ask. But, I love the idea of having regional or state threads in order to find more Muse fans near me. However it happens, you've got my support! :)
+1
Hi! I'm from Northern California:D well....there are hardly any
Muse fans here though:erm: its so sad:(
But however many others there are, you'd be much more likely to find them, and vice-versa, within a N. CA or at least CA thread, than in one general, all-purpose USA thread.
Thank you, and I'm sure you worded it more nicely than I would have, especially yesterday. I hope Kev acts on your suggestion, without our having to organize a petition behind it. I'm pretty sure you're right about the organizational aspect; it'd have to be a USA sub-forum, with the USA [banter] thread under that.
But if Kev and the other mods refuse this common-sense reform, then I suggest at the very least we American Musers get busy and offer our own resistance, and uprising, and do what we may to raise our profile around here... beginning, perhaps, with forming many more American geographical and subcultural social groups: Brooklynites, east Texans, American Expatriate Musers, American College & University Students, American Muser Single Parents, American fans of both Muse and Football.... let a hundred flowers blossom!

IMHO, that's pretty damned clueless of him. And if Kev doesn't like me saying so, he can lodge his objection right here in the bloated USA International thread, where only a handful of people will ever see it.

I think the International section is fine like it is. Maybe if the board got an enormous amount of Americans it would be useful to organise it into regions.
Anyways, 2 1/2 weeks til Muse! I'm trying to make a plan in which all of us Musers going to the Dallas show can meet up at Six Flags the day before. It's right by Cowboys Stadium, and Muse have a 2 day break before the show. Hmmm ;)

Trust me, klock, if you had a separate Texas thread, it'd be a lot easier to organize that.
Can we at least agree on this: since the 'Merkins here who want expanded thread choices don't begrudge the continued existence of this thread for all-purpose banter, those Musers who question the necessity of regional/state/metro threads should nevertheless welcome their potential benefits that your fellow Musers see, and at the very least not hinder or sandbag those who agitate for their establishment?

I've established a new social group, "Equal Representation (USA wing)" (http://board.muse.mu/group.php?groupid=326), whose mission statement links to and pastes from this thread to explain the need for such a group and for the board reforms it advocates. (You can also find it in my profile under the "Boston Tea Party" avatar.)
All are welcome to join, even those who question the proposed reform of additional USA threads here in the International forum -- actually, the more general devolving of thread control to the users of this forum, regardless of nationality.
Another reform I called upon the mods to effect is greater access for Americans and other foreign nationals in the Banter forum, esp. WRT the publicizing of our social groups (social groups being moderator Kev's proposed solution to our bantering needs).
I thank you for your patience and support and hope to see you there!

What is the point of making your own state specific thread? It would most likely slowly die. If it were actually popular enough, the social group would maintain its own popularity and posting. This thread is actually relatively slow compared to others.
Just because the Muse International section of the forum says "Feel free to speak your own language" doesn't mean only non-English speakers should post there.
Muse maintains the messageboard at their own expense. Thus, you ADHERE to their rules and regulations instead of complaining how your "rights" are being violated.
Besides, if you feel you're being targeted in the banter section, it's probably because your diction is pugnacious and condescending. Not everyone shares the same sense of humor or worships the Sopranos.

Seriously, there needs to be a pop-up when Americans get on the board so everyone will stop asking Muse are touring in the spring.
From Wikipedia:
"It will actually be our longest US tour to date. Starting at about the end of February or March."
I believe that's from the KROQ Breakfast with Muse interview. They have stated the same thing in several US radio interviews. I think it's supposed to last 'til May.

Anyone here from Connecticut?....The New England area?... Perhaps the Eastern seaboard?.... *feels alone in this musically challenged world*
Well considering this tour is expanding, who knows. ;)
I know there's some Musers from New England around here somewhere!
'Nother Muse fan in America here. None of my friends have heard of them. I am surrounded by rap.
You poor thing. :noey: Sounds like you've got some band pimping to do.
I know of no Musers, and I'm here in the big city and everything! I'm surrounded by soccer moms, though, so go figure. I'm a island. :( I have a friend who likes Muse, but she's not a freak or anything like me.
Really? No Musers in Atlanta? Hmm...
Btw, I lived in Georgia for a couple years. Beautiful place.
I have several fans that love Muse, and one has been a fan since OoS era. There's several Musers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It's going to be awesome if they play at SXSW or Austin City Limits again!

In my neighborhood, it's rap, R&B, reggae, contemporary Hawaiian music, basically anything but rock.

Just sharing this for anyone who may not have known about this feature, since a few of you are new. Once you click on the link, log in with your forum name and password. Once you're logged in, click "view my profile" in the left menu, then "view map" in the right corner. The map should show you other registered Muse members in your area. :) (Of course, if you haven't already, you'll have to select which area you live in the "edit my profile" page.)
When the new site launched it was only me, Kylee (the other Hawaii boardie I'm in regular contact with), and another person in Honolulu (which actually covers all of Hawaii). Now there are 54 Muse members in Hawaii!

Oh, I'm sure they're here, but most of them are probably half my age, so I'm in the wrong demographic! There are probably not too many middle-aged stay-at-home moms that are as cool as me. :D Maybe a few, I'd love to meet them. If people here in the US would get their heads on straight and turn away from horrors like Lady Gaga, Justin Biyber, and all rappers, then maybe Muse would actually tour here for once. Imagine not having to spend money for tickets, plane tickets, lodgings, AND merch at the concert.
Edit: I will be going to Wembley, which is why I had that little rant list of things that we will need in Europe. I cannot wait, it'll be the best 4 days of my life.

That's right, you HAVE to get on a plane to go see them. Well, maybe you'll get lucky one of these days. Who knows  This is supposed to be their biggest US tour ever, to my understanding  I shouldn't complain because all the major cities are within two states of me. I'm seeing them in Vegas in 26 days (OMG!), so "one of these days" is right around the corner for me! :musesign: But it would be spectacular to be able to see them locally!
:( You're lucky enough to live relatively close to some major cities though, like you said. How far would you travel to go see them?
I'm used to flying, so for me, it's no big deal. I get a bit antsy on any flight longer than six hours, though! (Vegas is about a six-hour flight for me; flying west to Asia or to the east coast, longer.) Since I graduated last spring and I'm now working at a flexible, full-time job, I've been fortunate enough to be able to sneak in short trips (a few for gigs) starting this year.
Yeah, people who would use that kind of slang are pretty much saying they're half-assed, wannabe gangstas. It's okay, I'm surrounded by idiots, too. You're not alone.

For that size of a gig, would rather not line up for hours just to get crushed ... so I'll probably be fine with the extra $$ for Level 2...

Woohoo, good for you!!! Have fun in Vegas!!!
I would travel across the entire country if I came up with the cash. Long car rides are no problem for me, even though I wouldn't be sitting still for any one moment.
I'm sure for whatever reason you could drag me on a plane, especially to see them. For the first half hour or so, I'd have a slight anxiety attack, followed by nearly killing the small screaming 4 year olds that may or may not be on my flight, but afterwords It might actually be fun. Anything to see those guys, really.
My only problem is flying over water. I've always been very edgy with even being driven over the huge half mile long bridge over the Connecticut River  Hmm, so I suppose I could fly all over the country, so long as it doesn't involve hours over water.
Long story short, I would pay every last dime I had, and I would fly (over LAND) as far and as long as needed to go to one of their gigs :D I'm such a little wuss.

The longest I've been in a car is about six hours from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and I got really antsy toward the end. Seems like six hours is like my travel threshold or something lol.

I'm thinking the same thing about Wembley, especially because UK crowds are very, um, hyper? Hehe. I think I read in the Wembley thread that GA tickets are also for Level 1 seating too, though, but you might wanna check with that thread to be sure.
Yeah, they're hyper and a bit crazier. :chuckle:
The longest I've been in a car is about six hours from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and I got really antsy toward the end. Seems like six hours is like my travel threshold or something lol.
Really? I drove 15 hours by myself.
Hey guys, what be poppin' in this thread since I haven't been here?
... that was bad. Seriously, how is everyone, what's been going on?
Hey! Haven't seen you in a long time. :awesome: This thread has been dead for awhile but we're all anticipating US spring dates.
YES! Omg how much longer are they waiting for? It's killing me here. I'm kind of hoping they do something with The Horrors again, in the US... then again that might just be wishful thinking. :(
Ooh yeah, The Horrors are awesome. I saw them earlier this year. I didn't expect the crowd to be so energetic!
Are you gonna tryr and get tickets tomorrow? I honestly don't know what to do.

Ooh the suspense...
Each time my phone goes off I get excited thinking it's muse twitter updates about the US tour.
Yeah, I'll try, but there's many difficulties. My mom isn't too happy about it, but I think she'd let me if dad approves. He's coming home from a business trip tomorrow night so I'll find out then if they'll pay for it as a Christmas/birthday present or just let me pay it back later. If they refuse to, I'll just give my friend my presale code since she wants to go to. Basically, there's no way for them to stop me. :D

..... I cheered everytime I saw a Muse shirt at the Raleigh gig!
..... By the time I got up the nerve to wave and shout MYOOZE! to someone I saw at the U2 gig wearing a Muse shirt, they didn't even hear me. :p
aw! you guys were there @ Raleigh Carter Finley too!? We got there so early, so it was a shock to hear that so many people missing the entire show from being stuck in traffic!! it was my first live Muse show, though of course I was going crazy watching the VMA's on TV ...
had my homemade Muse hat on the entire time! We were sitting in section ... 205? 250? one of the lower seated sections ...
When I screeched at the beginning of Unnatural Selection, some un-fun beeyotch "mimicked" me :supersad: .... srsly I wanted to go down and ask her what her problem was  we were ALL just there to have a good time! Maybe she was grouchy b/c being a university stadium, they couldn't serve any beer! :p
We had also stopped by the booth set-up for the local alternative radio station, and they mentioned us on the air as "fans who came from Chicago, just to see Muse" we didnt give our names tho'

Nah, I was at the Atlanta show. :)
Did all of you hear the rumor that DIOYY is supposedly opening for Muse for the upcoming US tour? I forgot who said it, but it was on the US Resistance Tour thread. The person that said it knows someone who's with DIOYY or something. Well, I'd prefer someone else, but I don't really care.

Hmm didn't hear about that. I wouldn't mind them, and they're better (imo anyway) then some of the other bands they've toured with in the States. I looked up their tour dates and they're listed to play in other countries for Feb. 27 and 28, March 6-8 and 20, so I guess they would be open for some time.

Does anyone know when the Wembley gigs that were recorded for H.A.A.R.P.announced or when the American tour was that year (2007 I assume?). Because if Muse are planning on a US tour in March, April, and May shouldn't they have gotten our dates out first? :erm:
I remember it was in December of 2006 when they announced they would be playing Wembley Stadium in June of the following year.
When Muse announced tour dates around their Lollapalooza and ACL festival shows in 2007, it was about 2 months before.

Congrats! Yeah, not sure if I can go, so I didn't wanna buy pre-sale tickets I'd have to pick up at the box office, only to find that I couldn't go to London. I'll hold off until I know for sure that I can go - either when tickets go on sale tomorrow evening and Ticketmaster is selling them (they mail overseas, I believe) or if/when more tickets are released later on.

Awesome! I'm waiting for Friday to get my tickets so I can have them shipped overseas. Plus, I'm broke and my friend doesn't get paid til Thursday, after the 2nd presale starts. I'm only getting standing.
Supposing that the additional Wembley dates are true, once the gig on the 11th is done I could just get back in line and queue for the next one.

The Horrors was absolutely horrifying horrible at the Copenhagen gig (Denmark). If they don't get things more clean and the front singer still sings like a cat being stepped on, well, you shouldn't hope for them to warm up.

Yep, she'll be attempting to buy them on the Ticketmaster general sale Friday at 3 am! Aww well there's plenty of time. Last time at Wembley, they released more tickets later.
She loves to travel, and got a work visa. After traveling throughout Europe, I guess she just really loved Manc so she got lucky and got a job working at the desk at the hostel. It was the first job she applied for too! She said she'd try to come down to London if I came.

I'm so jealous of her. I'd love to do that. She makes enough at the hostel to be able to afford staying there, eh? Does she stay at the hostel or have another place to live?
I just went to ticketmaster.co.uk and pretended I was buying Green Day tickets to see how their system worked. When I got to the part where you select how to get your tickets delivered to you it says it's 18.50 pounds to get them delivered to anywhere in the world and 13.50 pounds to get them delivered in the US. What the actual hell? I'm guessing it will be like that for Muse then... I took a screen shot of it to show you guys. Sorry it's a bit hard to make out.
