View Full Version : IAMX
Hehe you seem to misplace quite a few albums!
I stacked all mine, but after taking a few out to listen to they're all over the place...
Today I actually discovered more in depth details about this, generally all I knew was that one or two shows didn't go well or something?

August 24th is the release date :)

I didn't know them at all, but I discovered them last thursday at the festivall I-Recall in Paris. I mean I was waiting for the Servant just after them but they were cool. The singer sings really well and he "envoy"(I can't find the word) some red wine in the public. Luckily, I got some :p I was mad!!! NOT ON MY HAIR!!!
Anyway, the concert was excellent. But after the concert, when they went out, they were still drinking red wine!!! I bet they were totally drunk!
Sorry for my bad english.

It's not? To be that shallow is not shameful?
Well, you do suprise me.
pullis_mushroom
19-05-2005, 01:56 PM
well.. why it is shwallow to be a groupie..?
maybe groupies see more in a person .. not only the musician.. they know every little thing of a person..
and .. who is saying that a groupie only likes someone because the person is famous? that is not true!!
groupies are necessary..for bands and for ppl like you..
and as i said.. that we have got the better groupies it was just a joke.. and you take it too seriously
but i don't want to discuss with you the phenomenon "groupie"..
.. i like groupies.. and musicians too ... and if someone doesn'nt its not my prob :)
Sarah
19-05-2005, 02:04 PM
It's obsession. It's not healthy for a person to idolise someone they don't actually know properly & then get used by the musician. I know groupies don't care that they are used, they want to be, but it is not good in the long term as it is so shallow from the musician yet the groupie starts to mix up the emotions of love & obsession.
Groupies aren't necessary.. they are just a by-prodoct of fame or infamy. I don't care that they exist, but to wave them around like it is a good thing - it really isn't.

I'm taking a train, much cheaper, only like 50 quid both ways! Mind to get to Lux it's an extra 12 quid each way...but meh he's worth it.
I don't know anyone going to the London gig (Lux and Brussels included)...and I'm definitely going, who cares? You'll still enjoy it!
Belgian Chocolate
27-02-2007, 01:39 PM
I would have LOVED to go to the Lux gig cause I missed IAMX playing there 2 years ago, and I wouldn't have minded going on my own there cause I've lived in Lux all my life until I came to uni in England. The venue is great (although the stage is really tiny) and I know my way around there. I would go to the London gig on my own but I'm basically scared shitless of walking around/taking the tube or train there on my own at night... :(

The Lux gig was actually the better one (haven't been to London cos it's tonight but I'm gonna go be all gung-ho and be in the front). Brussels had too many crazy motherlickers.

I loved the support. I'm hopefully going to go and see them when they come to farnborough. Unless it's an over 18 gig.. but I might try and get in anyway.
I fucking LOVED last night. Chris Corner... my word. He stared at me for a while then pulled a really hilarious face near the end of the gig (did anyone see him do that? He pulled his mouth apart with his fingers and grimaced like a fooool.) Probably because when I noticed that he was looking back at ME I just stopped moving at attempted to look cool. I think I had my mouth wide open though. Gutted @ self.
I was front far left. Right in front of that security bloke. I had a load of glowsticks shoved down my bra during Scarlet Soho.

Yeah - I thought, before I saw him live, that he might be a bit distant - more like an actor, just because of the way he was in the video for president - but he really does draw you in. He has that element of being a showman, but he also interacts with the crowd a lot.
I'm glad you saw him pull that face. It made me giggle for ages... I know this is a bit sad but I still can't believe he pulled that face at meee. He's such a wonderful man.

Yeah, I only really post in the music section really. Thanks for the setlist btw... I completely couldn't remember it. And yeah, I can't find anyone else to talk about it with. It does add a great lot the the experience of the gig. I've been to 3 gigs now and he's looked me in the eyes at every one of them and it just makes me hope that he recognises me from before but I guess that's just wishful thinking

I queued for about forty minutes (I had nothing else to do) and then pissed about in the toilets for a bit (erm.. not literally) and ended up front far left. I could be all bitter and be like "why wasn't I at the front?" but I didn't feel left out of the action at all. Far from it!

And even then they have no idea!

seriously...him: "Spin Spin something yeah?" me: nod and sigh. I've been listening to that a lot as well lately...tis a proper tune. mind, I'm not even that big a fan of the Pimps...but it might have to suffice until we get another album from him.
well at Brussels, the fans were mental from even the line...forget the fact that they made us wait extra time and wait once again when we got inside before entering the auditorium.
What happened was there was a barrier, but the gate kind you can move...thing is we had all of our bags and coats at the bottom, between it and the stage (the distance of which was only a foot maximum) so when the gig started everyone pushed and the bottom stayed where it was at but the top angled to the stage. Our bodies were literally lying on the barrier at an angle all night (keeping our feet on the floor and calves? yeah feeling a-l-l of that) and Chris kept coming to the end of the stage to be groped and people were pushing to touch him (ha and ew) and on top of all that my friend was suffering in 2nd row so I cradled her knees with the backs of mine to help (also didn't help).
But yeah, oh so worth it...good times. Chest felt a little bruised as well (but I hardly ever bruise at gigs, although I do have soreness for days, I'm semi-jealous of your battle wounds)

Omg that is so rough considering the kind of music iamx is! Although yeah, people do seem to have a bit of a mad desire to touch Chris. (Guilty, right here.) My chest felt sore after the gig I went to because of the barrier, but yours must have been killing you!
By the way I have a different version of spit it out to what's on the video. Would you happen to know what it is? It doesn't start with drums, it starts out with a sort of echoey clicky noise that fades in then the drums come in.

Yeah I just saw that a few days ago actually (usually aren't bothered with vids)...it's the demo for it. The Pimps were throwing around some of his songs before the hiatus and that version might have been the one that they recorded.

Trash Money, Le Tigre, Underworld, Bowie, plus some new Robots stuff to name a few! If anyone saw a nutter with pink hair that wouldn't stop dancing, that would have been me.

Basically a look at London life and the ridiculous fashions and mentality. Really like it. I don't find it funny so much as painfully accurate. Love Richard Ayoade (saboo/darkplace) in it. Isn't Nathan Barley the locksmith (in the jungle episode) in the boosh aswell?

I will ask, and I'm sure she'd let me borrow it, but I don't know if she's going to be around that day. We're both international students at uni, and the gig is the week before our uni starts again, so it'll depend whether she's back already or not. Otherwise, I'm slightly screwed it seems.

And yeah - I don't really understand WHY nme isn't all over him, and why he's not topping the charts. It's not like the music is really inaccessible - I think songs like spit it out and the alternative could be proper chart singles. Maybe he just doesn't want that sort of success over here - I mean they always said they intentionally committed commercial suicide by firing kelly ali - and Chris Corner has said that he'd hate to be famous, which is a sensible attitude if you ask me.
I really want to know exactly how well known is he in other countries? A lot of European countries seem to have a lot more sensible (and diverse) taste in music as a whole than the uk.

He's pretty well known in central and Eastern Europe I think, but nothing close to the chart kind of famousness. 3 years ago no one had ever heard of him Belgium and Luxembourg but now he's also got a relatively big fanbase there... The marquee at the Dour festival in Belgium last year was PACKED and I've heard the gig in Brussels recently was pretty crazy.
It's a shame he's not more well known in the UK but then again I don't want him to be all hyped up and pay a million pounds for a ticket in a gigantic venue. The small clubs are awesome

I never thought of him as huge in Luxembourg. I've lived there pretty much all my life but live in England for uni now for the past two years (so I do still spend my summers and other holidays in Luxembourg)... I think the reason for the Luxembourg gigs always to be sold out is because of the crazy Belgians coming over and invading the gigs  But I might be wrong :)

Well, starting to, anyway. I don't have either album yet. I was going to buy Kiss and Swallow on Ebay, but I'm not sure if it's the real CD. It's only $5 or something, which makes me suspicious. As for The Alternative, I can not seem to find a site that will ship to the US. Nineteen95 seems like it would, but I got to the confirm order page and it acted like it still thought it was shipping to somewhere in Europe, so I didn't trust it to make any sense out of the order. I'm just hoping they will have time to make a video, this tour seems to be stretching out forever! I'm seeing them on the 25th in Cardiff, can't wait!
Oh yeah, I got bored a couple of nights ago so made this as there seem to be no decent pages for Chris' previous (and possibly still current) band: http://www.myspace.com/sneakerpimpstv :)
nice site :)
if you're interested half of the Sneaker Pimps are now in a band called Trash Money

No it wasn't Attack 61, although they played that in the encore. It was another song that's not on either album, or any b-side i've heard. Was very guitar heavy with a very stockholm syndrome sounding riff and the female keyboardist singing the chorus. Nice computery green numbers counting down on the projection too. I recorded it on my phone but the bass was too much for it and you can't hear a thing.
I'm seeing them in Paris next, so hopefully that will be a good'un too :D
With Sohodolls supporting too! I wish I could go to that, should be awesome :(

I'm a bit confused. Are there now two versions of The Alternative? I've got one on Major Records (with yellow tape over the person's mouth) and now there's one on Carbon Records (with black tape over the mouth) and it seems to be a completely different, and from what i've heard far better, mix. Especially with the new version of Negative Sex, which now has loads of delay on the guitar and has hugely boosted the distorted electro sounds in the verse and guitar in the chorus.

Yeh theres the old european release (yellow tape), and the new UK release (black tape). I think the uk release has the strings version of Spit It Out on it as well.

Electric Ballroom and I can't bloody wait. Only started listening to him last year but from the very first song (President) I was completely and utterly hooked. Missed his last London gig so there's no way I'm going to miss this one, not for all the money in the world, and whether I drag my friend along or not. Especially if it's his last one for a while.
If there's one artist I've fallen completely in love with over the past year it would be Chris.

I think most of the shows I've gone to alone have been more fun than the ones I've gone to with friends, because whenever I'm at shows I just want to listen to the music and I don't need company to do that, I guess.:erm:

Sometimes being there with friends can add to the atmosphere.
And IAMX concerts aren't necessarily going to be all about the music, it's a pretty full on visual show, from what I've heard.
That said, some concerts I'll go to alone simply because I'll want a bit of time to myself and listen to some live music.

Form what I've heard of the Sneaker Pimps, they sound a bit laid back for my liking. I even much rather prefer the faster, dirtier beats of The Alternative than Kiss + Swallow (President, The Alternative, Negative Sex, SOIB, Spit It Out = omg, orgasm). Am I wrong, or should I check out their earlier stuff?

I know what you mean, I've only been to one when my 'mate' let me down at the last minute and I really didn't want to miss the gig, but ended up making friends there. But I guess it can be a bit intimidating if you're quite young, or if you're a girl? Anyway, if that happens nowadays I just try and meet up with other fans beforehand, which is fairly easy to do with this called the intranet. Much better than missing a band/artist I'm dying to see imho.

Same here! Although I do love 2/3 of Kiss and Swallow too (and like all except YSIIM). Bloodsport is definately the closest to The Alternative in having some more aggressive and guitar heavier tracks. Definately try and get hold of the album versions of Kiro TV & Small Town Witch from Bloodsport!

I'm sorry, I just don't think SD or Suzerain sounded any good. And President just doesn't seem a good track. Bring Me Back A Dog, though, that is good.

I've no idea about Suzerain, but I love Sohodolls (easily one of my favourite albums of last year) and think President is an awesome track. :p

I look forward to the concert in general tomorrow, but I checked out Soho Dolls and Suzerain, the support acts, and wasn't very impressed. May also have to cover my ears during President, if he plays it.
 :noey:
That's sacrilege.

I know it's all taste and preferences and everything but I don't understand how someone can like like IAMX and hate President. And I mean that sincerely by the way, not as a snide remark. Anyway, each to their own (conversely, I'm always skipping Bring Me Back a Dog).
