Looks like we have a surprise album launch gig, or at least a recorded performance of some sort. The date is just the broadcast/showing date, so we don't know when the actual performance will be.

Wouldn't surprise me if they then adopted a Gene Simmons dress sense and then pictured themselves crossing Abbey Road for the album cover

"Plus classics from their 16-year career"
Reading/Leeds encore type songs then. :(

And?
I imagine setwise it'll be something like their Teignmouth shows, debuting a bunch of new songs and then otherwise a standard set with a range of songs from their past albums, but not so much Showbiz. Nowt wrong with that
Would be awesome if they played the new album in full

I think for this gig they should take a leaf out of the recent Kasabian gig and go paperless.
Niall
30-07-2012, 03:03 PM
We don't even know if this is an actual gig in the traditional sense or if it's more like a live studio session with little or no audience. I'd guess it's more the latter given that Battersea Power Station isn't really a venue so much as a ruin, unless it's like the set up for the winter sport festival they do there.
so this confirms that animals is just gonna be a cover of the pink floyd album?

I'm now wondering if Muse is doing something like Led Zeppelin did for "The Song Remains The Same": live footage intercut with movie like segments. That would be wicked (it would also explain the pics of Dom as a ninja).

Cos I just can't see how they could make it work in a tour in the normal format lol

This is just so random. Don't get where ML got that 16 September date from, there's nothing officially confirmed from the band about it, we don't know if it's a performance with fans or just a recording to be aired in films, and we don't know which cinemas will air it or even when (rumours of 7th Sept).
I"m really hoping fans can't attend to watch live performances cos I'm on holiday abroad that week and I simply refuse to miss Muse in London (except for the Closing Ceremony... I don't have £900-£1,500 to blow on tickets!).
BPS is an awesome venue and the screening sounds tres cool, but it's too up in the air at the mo - confirm something, pls!

Yeah, this buildup's been pretty shit to be honest. Now that we've got some songs, the boredom has lessened but it's definitely still there. The band haven't really done anything to involve the fans this time.
hyper_chondriac_muser
26-08-2012, 12:12 PM
No treasure hunts or games, which is a shame. But I think the anticipation of the songs has been enough this time, tbh. Because the stuff we've heard has been so radically different to before, it's set expectations higher.
I know with each album they do something different, but this one feels even more set apart from their previous material. I'm definitely still counting down the days to its release. The Chris songs in particular I can't wait to hear! :D

Bit obsessed with people's usernames/avatars? :p.
TR build up was cool, but they've involved fans in cooler ways (Abso's actual treasure hunt with the bikes and the setlist anagrams were the best, imo). Dunno why they didn't do anything this time around, but it hasn't dampened my excitement for the album. It just means we've had less to do while we wait, lol. I'm hoping for a hidden code of some sort on the album itself that might lead to hidden tracks  (although hugely doubtful).

As to the question: I don't think it was ever officially confirmed, no. It was through a website, but the band didn't make any announcement. Bummed as well because this would have been such an iconic location and such a brilliant gig. And Muse at the cinema was awesome with HAARP, so I was excited to relive it.

Come on, the audience is what drives a live show. The reaction of a crowd has a direct correlation to their enthusiasm to do a good job, having no one around would feel like a rehearsal

I'm not saying I'd want it to be that way, but that it was a potential option. This whole thing was so hush-hush, though, it's hard to know if it was ever really planned to happen. I would have paid a decent sum to see them play at Batt Pow. That would have been fecking memorable!
