As a person who stands at a mighty 5ft1, standing is never ideal for gigs. This didn't make it any less AMAZING, though. Particularly enjoyed Madness, Sunburn and Stockholm Syndrome. Feel I've been a bit out the loop with what Muse have been doing these past few months, but this rekindled my love for them again

constap
31-10-2012, 01:48 AM
Only bad thing about the night, apart from the standing for hours, getting squished and sweaty and all that shut, is the fact they played either Ss or New born. Why not both guys? Still epic tho, but seeing as my mate nearly fainted cause someone kept elbowing him in head and splitting us up, and he couldn't get water, means seats might be better next time. Although moshing to knights of cydonia was epic.

What an absolutely amazing night. Just got home and jumped into bed. My first ever Muse gig and it was fucking unbelievable. Words can't describe how amazing that was. I still can't comprehend how amazed I am that I was less than 5 metres away from God at one point and I must have moshed through about 20 rows of people  Feeling a bit depressed it's over though. Definitely going Wembley next year 100%

Morning guys. Who else is totally knackered this morning? Got home at 2.30 and now at work and still buzzing.

I reckon last night was possibly one of the best Muse gigs I have been to, nearly on a par with Reading simply because of the crowd and setlist. I have wanted to see Sunburn for years and so please we got it last night. SS too! Just awesome.

The new songs went down soooo much better than I had expected, Madness was amazing I cant beleive I ever worried about that being boring live. Explorers I thought was a bit lame but it was a welcome break from the moshing (anyone else in the moshpit in the centre? OUCH!)

I love how Matt seems more confident and even more chatty, picking out individuals in the crowd and addressing the back and sides of the arena. Just made the atmosphere so much more electric some how. Everything was just perfect, the visuals were incredible and the lasers were mindblowing as always.

The boys seemed totally on form last night and was amazing to see. I can't wait for the stadium tour next year.

Seriously no, I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else - even if I did end up on the floor! My son was one of the serial 'mosh-starters' it was fun! The crowd were great - everyone really friendly and excited - I apologise to anyone who was stuck near to me listening to my screaming and terrible singing :$
LIke someone else said it was awesome to be so close, like 4-5 metres away from the band - especially when they came down the little platform thingy at the middle front :D :D :stongue: My highlights were Panic station, Madness, Liquid State (awesome live), SMBH and Survival (OMG!). Can't wait for the stadium tour.

Just got back to Durham so completely knackered after very little sleep but oh my what a gig! The guys were on form and they all looked like they were really enjoying themselves instead of just going through the motions. Matt was so charismatic and Liquid State was performed really well by Chris. Oh yeah, and SUNBURN! I was about 4 people back right in the middle and everyone around was singing the lyrics at the top of their voices.

Also, it was nice to meet you Tassia and Darren. I hope you guys had a cracking gig too. :)

Yes, but in their defence, why do people queue for 20 mins plus then get to the front and can't decide what to buy?
We went to the one down the ramp, far less busy, but still staffed by REALLY slow peeps.

Picko, I'm actually surprised I have any voice left today. Although I have rung in sick with a stomach bug, I thought it was just excitement giving me 'butterflies' but it wasn't :(

On the plus side, it means I get to stalk youtube for footage of last night. Have replayed Unsustainable several times. Will Muse do a tour dvd at some point does anyone know?

I tried the main merch stall (useless woman serving at the far end on the right, I came away with nothing!!) and tried the one at the bottom down the ramp. Served by a guy with long curly hair, looked like he'd been dragged in off the street and not a clue how he got there or what to do. Totally useless. Took an age to say "sold out" I knew what I wanted too. I was stuck by some Australian woman at the top merch store, she took about 25 minutes. "Yes, no, too small, oh actually yes, oh no not enough money. Oh ok yes"

Another thing that I loved about last night was the vast range of ages in the audience, even in standing. I saw kids from about 10 years old (obv in seated) up to people in their late 60'sor early 70's, who didn't appear to be there as chaperones for younger kids, but as genuine fans. Amazing!

I always say that if I make it to a gig I'm grateful for whatever the boys play, if I coud have written the perfect setlist from what's being rotated this time round I got it last night; Sunburn, Hysteria, Stockholm fucking Syndrome, Liquid State, just perfect. It's taken all morning to upload one HD vid Loved the visuals, just fab.

been trying to remember my login for this place for a couple of days so I've just been lurking.

can't believe some people queued from 5/6am! I'm glad I wasn't planning on doing that as I came down with an awful cold yesterday morning and felt horrible all day.
so if anyone around me was by a girl constantly blowing her nose... that was me!
got there for 5pm, got in and had to have something to eat and got in line, so after that I wasn't expecting a good spot.
got closer than I thought, a few people back in the middle. the support band were okay, but they seemed to drag it out.
muse were just amazing, better than the first time I saw them at the NIA, I think. better setlist. the new stuff went down well
a few people around me didn't sing much to animals which was a shame as I love it, but apart from that the crowd was great.
sunburn has to be mentioned obviously. I went mental for plug in baby/stockholme syndrome even though I felt like I was gonna die.
I felt worse standing still for some reason, so during isolated system when everything calmed down
I knew I was gonna faint if I didn't get water, so my boyfriend had to take me out. I felt a bit bad for him having to lose such a good spot.
got back in in time for knights, but wasn't as close. but it was still great. survival was explosive! good last song.
got a few pics and a video I'll try and post.

Best fucking gig of my life. That beat the roundhouse. 2nd time I heard sunburn this week as well, my joint favourite muse song.

Awesome queue - Birmingham's fucking fun, they have geese! And the security were AWESOME. Big up Kevin. I was 16th, and easily made my usual spot on the barrier.

It was amazing; I had lots of banter with Chris like with the other gigs.... He looked at my spot as soon as he came on and made a funny face at me when he saw I was there :awesome: He even did my clicky thing back at me during survival :D He gave me the harmonica and said see you at Manchester and winked! I'm not going to Manchester though :(

Matt also gave me and my friend the Mic during starlight and we tried our best to sing in time  During UD matt took my furry hat I wear to every muse gig! He gave it back though :p

Dom gave my friend his stick because Chris said to him 'give it to them' and pointed at us, and as he did Dom nodded at me, and I tried to give him the hat and he said 'no its yours!' So I kept it in the end after all that.... Dom was tempted... I think he wanted me to keep it so he could recognise me? Idk.

After the first encore (uprising and knights) I just looked around and realised I was actually in heaven. Honestly, with awesome people and with an awesome band... Mhmhmhmhmhhhhmm. it didn't feel real. Shed a tear more than once that gig... It was my 6th muse gig and I dont think it's ever been as emotional as that one. Maybe Reading 2011 with OOS.

I filmed Sunburn from the barrier and made sure not to 'sing' along this time!

Gig was utterly awesome (as always!!) It was on a par with Wembley 2nd night I reckon. One moan however...... Me and hubby were in Block 16 which had a great view, but some dozy twonks behind us kept saying to sit down....... Er, whatever!!!!! If that was you (behind row R), then sorry - I'm usually very reasonable, but really???? Er, hello..... MUSE gig!!!! Needless to say I was up dancing like a lunatic and wrenched my neck headbanging, HAHA!!! :D (Maybe that was karma for me standing!!) :p
Anyway, highlights for me......Sunburn, PiB, SS, Liquid State (well done Chris!!), Explorers (I blubbed much to hubb's horror), NOC, Survival, and surprisingly Unsustainable... what a belter of an opener!!!!
Matt's interaction was fab, I laughed so much when he said to the girl with the light hair on the barrier "Is that really your hair??" Said he'd have to do that for his next tour, classic!!!
Dom's onesie..... Brilliant, looked like an overgrown baby!!
Today I am depressed and tired, I hate it when it's all over :( Hurry up next year!!!! :)

An amazing concert! Better than when I saw them at the NIA in 2009, and my girlfriend is now a converted fangirl  Some nice surprises in there too, all I wanted that they didn't do was 'Hyper Music', but I don't think they play it very often anyway - so I wasn't disappointed. My mate queued since 1pm and was in the front row, and recorded himself touching Matt's hand, haha.

Is this talk of a stadium tour next year true? We're both well up for going.

First time I've driven to a gig too, made it without a hitch and with bucketloads of time to spare! Although I'll take the M42 next time - the roundabouts on the A446 were a nightmare!

One final thing - where was the red glitter?! All I saw was the mirror guitar, the new carbon and the MB-1.

Still can't believe just how good they were last night. Definately topped Manchester/wembley 2010 and Leeds 2011 for me. Everything just seemed surreal. Was about 4/5 rows back just off the centre walkway to Matts side and the crowd were great! Everyone just went ape shit when they walked on for Uprising/Knights. Sunburn was incredible, when matt said "here's an old bastard for you" i though it was certain to be Falling Down.

It was also my dad's 2nd time seeing them (although 1st time he didn't actually know any songs). He knew almost all the songs last night and bearing in mind he's 60 now, he ended up almost on barrier from his moshing  Never thought i'd see the day when my dad would call something "absolutely fucking awesome", but the day came :awesome:

Retired... And also, Matt doesn't own an MB1, that's his commercial signature model - it's actually a hybrid of loads of different guitars - he used an MB1 at wembley while the Red Glitter was being mended. The one you're thinking of is the new black gloss one.

Hi All

Sounds like your gig was fantastic! I'm going to Manchester tomorrow, hope ours is as good!

I wonder if any of you can remember the start and finish times of Muse's set? It'd be incredibly helpful to have an idea when it's likely to start up here.

I had a fab time too. It was my first time in the LG arena. Great venue!
I'm not a big fan of the 2nd Law, but I love how this band can take a mediocre album (imo) and turn it into a whole new experience live
Visuals, lasers, sound, all awesome as usual
Over too soon, as usual..!
So so so happy that they played stockholm syndrome, I couldn't imagine a gig without it

Yeah, I think he did, he was looking right at me for most of the harmonica bit :) and thanks, it was incredible!

I think he was just talking about you on the radio interview

I thought that two hours was the perfect length, by the end i was taking deep breaths as it was sooo stuffy!
But i loved it, got crazy during stockholm and knights (yes it was my first muse gig) was incredible.

What a great night, seen them loads but first time at the barrier. Surprised how it got rocking for time is running out! Good spirit near the front too, plenty of water sharing.
Hope a good stadium tour next year is announced!

Yeah, you all shared amongst yourselves! Us 6 back didn't get any of it!

I was passing back as far as I could, usually about 2 rows behind me, its difficult though when everyone is gasping for it and there's so little to go around. I definitely tried. Thanks to whoever the guy was next to me too (was jealous of me for having gone to the RAH gig) for always making sure my girlfriend had water. Mega props to you sir.

That's a great story, Jamie! So happy for you.

I agree, great gig and all that and yes I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, great lightshow, lasers etc and probably the best sound I've ever heard at any of their gigs but some of the new stuff just wasn't up to their usual standard (apart from Unsustainable and Supremacy which were right up there). Also, Hysteria, TIRO, SS and Newborn (which we nearly had) are all fine songs, but every gig? I guess for those who have never seen them before, (probably a large percentage of the crowd) great, but when you've seen the same songs at every gig you've been to, you begin to wonder whether you will ever see any of their other less performed classics. Hyper music, the Small Print, Showbiz, Deadstar to name just a few.
The only song which should be in every gig is Knights of Cydonia - awesome every time.

And never mind just how good songs like madness are live. That song was incredible, much better live than I expected. Im sorry...but if you want them to play a different set entirely every gig, you want a different line up with songs they've likely not practised or played in years, then you ARE asking for too much. This gig was amazing, seeing Sunburn live was...phenomenal and I personally think this was the strongest set from this tour so far.

Didnt hear that one at the time. Will have to check YouTube

Edit : found it, right near the end of the song

What did people think to the joy formidable? Felt like they played the same song for 30 minutes and how mardy was she "this is a song from our second album, yes we've got a fucking first one too its all fucking new to you lot" or something along them linesthink it was like "this is a song off the new album, but it's all fucking new to you guys"

didn't know if she was being funny or like you said, mardy.
if she was trying to be funny it didn't go down well with the people around me.

I managed to get hold of a ticket at the last minute and so glad I did because seeing this tour once just wasn't enough for me. I was at the side of the stage, (Chris's side and initially I was the only one in my block who stood up and promptly sat back down again. I was mortified, like, "fuck, am I going to have to sit down for the whole gig!?" Felt pretty weird. But luckily, I think at SMBH :chuckle: the audience in my block started to loosen up and get into it. :D I think it was when Matt came round to our side, which he did quite a lot, which was brilliant! He he made a effort to get the audience into it. :D The visuals aren't quite as striking from the side, as you don't see the full lighting affects, and you're more aware of the glass barrier (to stop Matt falling off) but it was a better position for seeing the band.

I thoroughly enjoyed the setlist on the second night of the O2 but was very pleased to get the alternative setlist, with Hysteria, Stockholm Syndrome and Sunburn. It's great to be treated to both versions and I don't remember hearing Sunburn live before. It sounds fantastic live. :D

I agree with the previous poster that Madness sounds great live, more than you would expect hearing it on record. The videos add a lot to it as well I think, but my chief highlight, I think, is Follow Me. I don't care that it was mixed by Nero, or that Matt doesn't have a guitar, I just love the song and there's something extra special about the performances of it. Plus the visuals are beautiful. Second major highlight is Survival as last song. Wow! :D Knights is fantastic, I love Knights, but it has finished for so long and Survival is equally immense.

Anyway great gig, and I think I probably have the best photos I've ever taken as well. :D

Hopefully I might continue to feel satisfied now because I really can't go again.

Just adding in response to previous post. I didn't think that much of Joy Formidable. They were okay, heavy, but not that interesting. I suppose I like a good melody, and I wasn't encouraged to buy any of their music. I always feel a bit sorry for support bands, but I am afraid I didn't warm to them. Maybe it was because I hadn't heard them enough, well I heard two half live sets. Well I got the impression they were pissed off by the lacklustre audience response. Though I think it might have been a pointless use of the word "fucking" for effect which went down like a lead balloon.

I heard this too. It was "we've just released our second album and this next one is a new song but hey, its all fucking new to you anyway". Being honest, I LIKED them up until that point then I just thought they were pathetic. I get that its frustrating when you get little response but that wasn't a good way of handling it.

at first I thought she was just acknowledging that they're a bit unheard of but the swearing made her sound so moody!
I just found them annoying after that, with their last song dragging on and on.
liked their very first song though.

already can't wait to see muse again, if they play wembley again I will definitely try to go.

I wonder how Muse were when they supported larger bands. I can't actually remember that they did that, well apart from U2 recently, but I suppose they must have done.

I suppose they wouldn't have become frustrated while supporting U2 as they were a huge band so had that confidence. So that doesn't really count, apart from the fact that it was humble of Muse.

Maybe they didn't get a lacklustre response in the past as they were actually good!

What I like most about you Jamie is your uninhibited enthusiasm and unashamed 'fanboyism'. I made the effort to listen to The Joy Formidable once I knew they were supporting so I enjoyed their set and kudos to any support band who trash their gear at the end, but even knowing most of the tracks, they were a bit samey, every song going for the "wall of noise" feel. They were clearly pissed at the lack of enthusiasm from the crowd, the bass player pointedly yawning at one point, but they should be grateful for the opportunity to play such a big venue/crowd and support such an awesome band. In response to Carrie B, I think in the past, apart from U2, Muse have supported Feeder, Depeche Mode, (Gene maybe a long time ago?) and the Chilli Peppers, plus others probably.
Just checked Musewiki out of interest - they have also supported Skunk Anansie, Bush and for one gig, Ash. Funny how things turn around.

I was pretty close to the front so you'd think people would be a bit more enthusiastic, even though it's just for the support act, but literally everyone apart from one person was just standing completely still when The Joy Formidable played. She did sound pretty pissed off!
I listened to some of their stuff beforehand and i didn't like it much, but I thought they were good live, although they did go on a bit after songs, it sounded the same each time!

It's a shame I didn't enjoy this as much as I could: we were much further back than normal, so got stuck with the dull crowd - they were just non-moving for pretty much the whole night. Even during songs which usually demand that the whole crowd jumps or claps etc, they were dead. Crowds really do determine your enjoyment of a show, I find, but the band's performance was top, as ever. Learnt my lesson there anyhows: no standing any further than 20-or-so rows from the front: I like being part of the energetic crew - there's just no point standing otherwise, imo.
