Citizen Erased is THE song by Muse definitively .

No one can match its genius and sheer originality and creativity (Showbiz is the only one near to it for me) .

Anyway it s a matter of taste .

I love it. I know a few people who say it's their favourite song. I just found out that a 'long lost friend' likes it so it's gone down slightly in my liking, but not much. Besides which it's silly not to like it just cos some prat does. I still love it. Just me being petty. It comes just before darkshines. But it changes. Alot. And often.

Citizen Erazed was the best song on origin of symmetry, just ahead of bliss i think. but being perfectly honest I think stockholm syndrome is their best song yet. THAT riff at the end, songs are remembered for things like that. It just sends shivers down my spine every time i hear it

The middle of the song when "for one moment" starts again slowly and the INSANE INSANE INSANE guitar s solo and explosion which follow are definitively genius .

And man, that moment "live" , it makes everyone melting each time all over the arena .

yeh thats so true.. i stared crying when i heard it live the first and second time, now everytime i hear it on my cd i cry hahha :D i know im mad but hey.. only Muse can do that for me :) have any of you seen it live on the Absolution tour?? when we saw it on the 6th of November, that bit just before he does the guitar solo before the last chorus, Matt went bouncing up and down and repeating one note like the cd was stuck in the cd player which took off and started bouncing around :D heheh.. hmm Citizen Erazed still gets my heart bonking more than the rest at the mo :)

but.. i can't say its the most 'Musey" song out there.. i mean look at megalomania.. and showbiz, and muscle museum.. meh theres 2 many :p

I have to admit, listening to either of them too much can make them feel very weak. Particularly B&H, which feels so strong and brilliant the first time you hear it.

I realise that in terms of permormance they're probably superior to other songs, but, argh...
They just don't "touch" me.
There are songs that make my pulse rate go higher and make me literally almost gasp for air because they're just so powerful, but those two aren't among them.

I ve seen them November 18th in Paris Bercy and yes matt was totally insane when the guitar s solo started, he bounced everywhere, one second he was on his knees, then he was on the air then jumping boucing AND keeping the whole riff !

Also i ve just watched the song on the DVD and i love when matt puts his head against the ampli, haha this guy is really mad (poor ears of his) :D

Citizen Erased is a very good song. "Not Bad" didn't really defing my opinion on it, nor did the option for fav song on OOS.

The calming piano bit at the end? Hmm I think it rounds off the song realy well. As the whole things a sort of anic depressive song. Going from one extreme to the other throughout. However, if a band were to cover that song for a small gig, battle of the band, it would be est to cut it out before the piano.

Citizen Erased is pure genius, an absolutley epic, passionate, overwhelming song. I don't have a favourite muse song (impossible to pick with so many amazing songs to choose from!), but I love citizen erased with a passion!

It was such a surprise to hear it played at Wembley on the 23rd Nov - I completely didn't expect it and I was just in complete awe. (btw, if anyone knows where I can get hold of a bootleg or video footage of it on the 23rd I would personally love them forever :p) I'm just praying that they choose to play it at Wembley Stadium!

I wonder why Space Dementia hasn't been played for ages,
I think its simply because the end riff is used on KoC. It fits well so they probabaly wouldnt want to remove it.

I think Citizen Erased suffers somewhat from its low key ending. It needed one more mosh along chorus at the end because as good as it is, the endings a bit underwhelming. I mean ocasionally i even...skip the last 2 minutes of the song...shame on me:$

I think its simply because the end riff is used on KoC. It fits well so they probabaly wouldnt want to remove it.

Not always. They didn't do it on the 21st or the 23rd Wembley gigs. :(

A shame, because it's an ace outro.

Space Dementia is wonderful live
But yes Citizen Erased is my favourite song. It's been played every time I've seen Muse live and I'm not sick of it at all.

Take A Bow and Knights Of Cydonia are the only songs off the new album i'm desperate to hear live again. The rest (apart from 2 certain middle songs) would be on the Citizen Erased level, good to hear but not essential

New songs is the only logistical reason to be honest.

I'd still rather hear Space Dementia over sodding Invincible. :indiff:

The last 2:30 of this song is transcendent beauty, of a type rarely achieved by a rock band. The combination of music and lyrics. The last verse is as brilliant as anything Dylan wrote.

Interesting that a lot of reviews of CE mention that last part as "finishing on a light note" which totally misses the point. There's nothing light about it at all, in fact it's enough to make a marginal person want to slit his wrists or throw himself off a building...

I just have to agree with that. Its an amazing song and the ending is perfect. It makes you feel.

(And I'm jealous of anyone who's actually seen it performed live. :p)

Tearing up...as in starting to cry...? If so, I know what that's like. When I heard CE on the cd, I did the same (both OoS and Hullabaloo). Also it happened with Eternally Missed and Shine... :$
When I saw Muse live, they were life changing for me too.

The amazing thing about the last section of the song is how a 22yo Bellamy is able to express such mournfulness in music. Maybe like in New Born he'd "seen too much too young".

probably the second Muse song I ever heard, it was the Hullabaloo version on a Q compliation CD..I was majorly blown away by the many varying degrees of awesomeness this one song had - an the atmosphere of the live sound (back when their CDs were mixed properly, not like HAARP ) was buzzing in my ears..added to the immense power of the song - it felt like the best, most refreshing punch in the face..the kind that bruises for days and leaves scars of joy.. k I really need to sleep now :$ but srsly, what a fucking awesome song, my thrid fave at the mo.it changes often!

Good song, but I wouldn't say it's one of my favourites. The bit I really like is the short solo in the middle - really haunting and evocative.

I thought it was an awesome tune when I heard it on OOS, but I really fell in love with it after listening to the Hullabaloo version. The way the crowd claps along when the piano comes in is pretty epic.

Not my favourite song...definite top 5 though.

No, not really. I think the piano part is the weakest link of the song and just drags it out too much.

Easily the best song Muse have done.

If it is the best song they've made so far, I hope it's not the best song they are ever to make.

I love the song, but I wouldn't say best (and no I'm not confusing the word best with favourite).

All that aside, what are others opinions here on what makes a song 'best'? Dynamics, pitch, solos, harmonics, texture?????

*Goes off to figure out what she would call best Muse song ever made*

It's not an issue of being over-exposed. BoRhap simply is a superior song if you look at net melodic content, not repeating lyrics, acyclic structure and the mind-blowing opera section. Citizen Erased is a close 2nd.

Anyways, here's a nice section-by-section breakdown: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Citizen-Erased. Of course my favorite is the last part which gets slow and finishes with piano - "wash me away...".

Also the last line - "and I've seen all I'll ever need" mirrors nicely with the end of Orwell's 1984.
