Anyone else like them? I find them quite lovely.

I advise all who are unfamiliar with them to check out their website; it's very cool, and the player has some good songs.

Thats a good way to describe them methinks.
I was glad to hear them as i was a bit bored of the stuff i'd been listening to of late.

The Secret Machines Mixtape is on mtv2 at the mo. I'm not quite sure what that means, but they played the video for nowhere again so it can't be bad. :)

Istya
20-07-2004, 09:32 PM
Mmm they played the Flaming Lips too.

The Nowhere Again video is very cool...and it's struck me that they're might be some code-breaking fun to be had. Apparantly Brandon told Entertainment Weekly that the flashing lights are actually spelling out song lyrics in Braille. That sounds very intriguing, and I'm wondering exactly how they did it/what phrases they used.

Glad to hear the album getting positve feedback. :)

They were recently on a US show on MTV called "Discover and Download." Their performance was great. If you go to http://www.mtv.com/onair/discover_download/, you can download "Nowhere Again" and "The Road Leads Where It's Led" (you have to register, but believe me, it's worth it!).

I love that song.

I heard the most fantastic rumor the other day. It's probably very untrue, but I'm going to ignore that because it's such a happy thought: Rich Costey (Muse's producer) recently did work with TSM and hinted at them opening for Muse's fall US tour! That would be crazy.

Finally got the album on Saturday. Its amazing, I absolutely love it

That would be seriously cool about them touring with Muse. But unfortunately i don't live in America. But i'll be happy for you American people.
Also, my brother pointed out that on the album cover you can see they use a Diezel* (sp? its not like normal diesel) guitar amp, the same as Matt uses. :)

Istya
02-08-2004, 06:32 PM
I know...but we got screwed over for opening bands on this past tour. Elbow may not be the most exciting band to see with Muse, but at least you weren't subjected to the horror that was The Exit. :indiffere

And I'm sure TSM will tour in the UK as well.

Ohh I noticed that the amp was a Diezel (I've no clue how to spell it), but I never made the connection because when I saw Muse, Matt was using Marshalls.

Kajeeves

On another note. My mate told me that the Secret Machines are playing at Reading this year. WOOOO! :D Sunday on the carling stage. See you there, kids.

Ohh cool! I swear the way they decide who's play at those festivals is to research my favourite bands and book them all. :(

BUT I just found out they're playing Last Call (American talk show) on August 23rd, and I just might have a ride to NYC that day. :D

who else has witnessed or heard of this fucking amazing band? (pardon my french)

i saw them at reading and oh my god, they were orgasmic. they were so professional live, and i really need to get thier cds now.

they are so loud live, and out of this world. i read in an inteview, that they like the idea of dance music, how the dj plays songs, and doesn't have any breaks in songs, and they just fuse one song into the other so you can stay in "the zone" if you get me. when secret machines played, in a somewhat terrible sounding carling stage at reading, they just arrived, sat down in their places, and just played their souls away. never stopping for a break between songs, instantly hammering out the next song to the crowd. when they had finished, they just upt and left, not saying a hello or goodbye to the crowd. it was amazing, how they didn't need to big up their record or anything like that, the crowd was instantly transfixed on the music solely, and i would go as far as saying, they are the greatest band i've witnessed live.

check them out now, and do yourselves a favour.

Good and bad news.

Bad- Because of the Muse injury/postponing tourdates thing, Secret Machines are NOT going to be touring with them in the fall. :indiff:

Good- Secret Machines will be opening for INTERPOL's fall tour!

Not quite as good a match up genre-wise, but oh well.

yeah, he was spraying me alot.

i was just by the metal thing on the floor, a few rows from the front. i had blue 3/4 lengths on and i think i had one of those german shirts on, those ones you could buy there for £2. i found some stickers on the floor, something "I love n-gage" or something. i had my green incubus t-shirt on underneath, with the old logo.

yeah, well it's not really that dark i guess, but it may have been in the tent.

i didn't really pay much attention to the crowd really, only the band when they came on. so i probably wouldn't know what you looked like, even if you slapped me in the face.

anyway, back on topic, i was thinking of ordering september 000 aswell as now here is nowhere, is september 000 actually any good tho? don't wanna waste money if it's completely different to the album, that money could be spent on something usefull, like a bearing for my skateboard.

Finally saw them Monday night; absolutely incredible! Music aside, the highlight was when a rude spectator made obnoxious noises during a particularly reverent song. Ben (the very fiery guitarist) flipped him off like we all had wanted to.

But wow, the songs was out of this world. Nearly everyone had their ears covered at some point because the sound was just so full. Our local paper described them as playing "massive walls of indiscriminate art-noise." They played:

First Wave Intact
Sad and Lonely
? (This was a new song...it may be "Faded Lines," but I can't say for sure)
The Road Leads Where It's Lead
Astral Weeks
Nowhere Again

I thought they were utterly rubbish at EC - all their songs went on for what seemed like ages, and they had no stage presence at all!

Nowhere Again sounds exactly like another song but I can't think what ?!

christoph
26-03-2005, 08:32 PM
their whole stage presence thing, well on their website an interview saying they love how DJ's get people up and keep them 'in the zone' by playing right the way through, not stopping for talking or anything like that. they try do the same thing when they play live.

minimal talking to the crowd and just let the music do the talking.

oh, and sod off and get revising :p

They got a strong Flaming Lips sound to them. :)

This thread hasn't been used in ages

I agree with the Flaming Lips thing. When I first heard SM's I had to recommend them to my sis who's a big fan of FLips.

I heard their new song yesterday "Alone, Jealous & Stoned" and liked it a lot & so re-listened to a CD I had with "The Road Leads Where It's Led" on & now can't stop playing it!

I wasn't that impressed when they supported Muse at Earls Court but I'm not sure it was their fault that the sound was crap in the venue (where I was sitting anyway).

In short; Secret Machines goooooooooood:yesey:

Is it rubbish then? The NME review was a bit pants but I don't want to just go by that.

To buy or not to buy?

Hmmmm, didn't play too long then. An hour and ten minutes?

Clunge
16-02-2009, 08:20 AM
Hour and twenty'ish.

It was a perfectly timed gig, any longer and it would have detracted from the energy of the songs beforehand. Each song is extended by probably at least two minutes I would say.

Right, thanks for the info.

By rights I should be listening to the new album today, but sadly Play.com saw fit to send me some album by Reel Big Fish instead. :(

Aww, ghey.

Indeed. It would appear that the gentlemen in Reel Big Fish are quite unattractive.

I quite like them, especially the drums.

Their drummer is insanely good live.

I quite like them, especially the drums.

Yeah, they're very recognizable. When I saw Across The Universe I totally didn't expect them in there but when I heard I Am The Walrus I was pretty sure straight away it was them.

And I also like that in some of the songs they keep on playing those awesome beats for 8-9-11 minutes:LOL: (Last Believer, Drop Dead, Have I Run Out, First Wave Intact)

I fucking love the drums!!

The beats/grooves are what makes their music so good, First Wave Intact live is something else.

Exactly the same setlist tonight

Indeed, it works really well that setlist, though I'd have loved one more oldie in the mix, maybe The Road Leads Where It's Led or Daddy's In The Doldrums.

I was thinking all night that First Wave Intact was going to be the moment, but by the time we got to the encore I was seriously thinking it was gonna be a massive let-down after what came before.

I so so so wasn't.

Yeah, The Road Leads Where It's Led, Never Thought To Ask and All At Once (It's Not Important) on top of this would have made me (how I dread this expression otherwise) jizz in my pants.

Yay, Play finally sent me the new CD on the third attempt. I'm listening to it now, liking it so far.

Just because I've remembered just how awesome their first album was. Especially these two on full volume:

Still one of the best gigs I've ever seen to. :yesey:

They're quite good though. I actually liked them before I realized the guy I knew was actually in the band
