and even if he really said it, what's the point? i read the full interview blah blah and he only talked about HIS feeligs and he never said that Matt und Dominic felt the same way! And we all know that Matt loves Twilight and is a huge fan himself and that he extremely often thanked Steph and the fans! And...if they only gave their songs away to get famous, why didn't they just stop after Twilight or New Moon? 'cause they were famous enough after the first or second movie, that's why I think that this interview is a fake or at least not completeley true the way the mags stated it.
so, however... i loved Muse before Twilight was even written and so it won't make me burn all muse-related things i have
Where has Matt said that he loves Twilight? lol
I initially read that as "Matt... is a huge fan of himself"

And yeah, it was in that tabloid article that said he loved Twilight and was dying to meet Robert Pattinson...

Same.

Whenever I speak to anyone who doesn't like Muse they ALWAYS say "They're a poor mans blah blah" or they "Take themselves too seriously" and so on...

Clearly these people have no clue about Muse if they've come to that conclusion.

If they think Muse take themselves seriously then they've evidently not got a clue about them

It was two songs for the first film, after that they pulled out because they didn't want to be known as the Twilight band.

Speaking of which...

I actually like Muse and Twilight separately. it's all the haters that ruin it really. It's extremely weird seeing the two combined however.

I didn't even make it to provoke people or something. But it's so easy. You just have to say some nonsense about Muse and Twilight together and people act like you've spat in their eyes or something.

This made me lol:

"The interesting thing is that I never even heard of this band b4 Twilight...They ought to be greatful that Stephenie Meyers was a fan, or they would be selling their asses on the corner to pay for the bills."

 Okay, just because you've never heard of a band doesn't mean they're not well known or successful. And as others have said before, I think you'll find that Muse were quite comfortable back in...2005? That's what Googles giving me as a publishing date for 'Twilight'.

First: :chris::chris::chris:

Second: This could clean out their fans again maybe? Now all the twilight fans are so mad at Chris that they'll drop Muse. The real fans survive.

AHAHAHAHA what a knob   - sounds like a typical message board hater troll. As much as it's great to have Chris be the focus of attention for once, insulting him will only result in a major e-slap :p. I love the 'Matt nailing Kate Hudson' bit  Talk about 'bad press', in every sense of the words.

The fact that Robert Pattinson (aka footface) has been gayed (my word for italicised) as some form of demi-god that everyone should worship for appearing on Twatlight soundtracks is reason enough to laugh off some pathetic tweenager's comments on Chris's opinion of these god-awful films. Ironically, they're telling Chris to suck it up. Epic lols.

Edit: I feel a disclaimer is needed seeing as we get a lot of touchy comments from some boardies (:p) - yes, this dude is entitled to his opinion of Chris etc. but then again, so am I. I'm also not taking this too seriously, cos it's just some guy's views, and I don't see the point in getting all serious and stressed out for no reason. Eh... Twilighters would've been introduced to Muse through the series regardless. I know quite a few Muse fans that got into Muse through Twilight through the books BEFORE the movies. Incidentally, that's also how I discovered Twilight...

I don't think Chris is being ungrateful about the whole thing, I think he just doesn't like it, which isn't the same thing, really. Life never goes the way you want it to.

Great way of putting that, i wasn't sure how to respond to this thread. You can not like something and still be grateful for it. You can't force the man to like the movie just because his music was in it. I mean I don't like the series, but I can understand why people do and Im fine with that. I am very grateful that their music is in the series because it lets other people find their new favorite band. Everyone needs the chance to listen to MUSE. That's exactly why Chris, Matt and Dom took this opportunity. Rock on Chris :) Your my Hero!!!

Went to the cinema to see Inception the other day, it was amusing how you could easily tell who was there to see Twilight, even saw a group with Muse t-shirts on as well as loads still rocking the emo look from 2005.

The most hateful people on there aren't even great Muse fans themselves. They'd never even heard of Soaked or Rain so they can't be that obsessed.

I'm amazed at how they really didn't get the joke. I have never seen or heard a single Twilight fan that ignorant of the band, I swear such people are myths.

I'm thinking the worst culprits are probably around 13 years old. I'm serious. The grammar says a lot. (I know, I know, there's plenty of brainiac teens on here that have perfect grammar, but clearly there's a lot of doofuses out there.) So I'm guessing that's why they aren't very clever or polite.

Lol I love all the fake Twilight personas people are creating for this page :shifty:. I won't join in, but it's funny to read.

I wish I could not give a toss about this Muse + Twilight thing... I don't care so much about the weirdo fans as I do about the type of image Muse have given themselves in America as a result of being so inextricably linked with these films; the cheesy songs, the 'selling their sould' - not that I believe they're genuinely selling out (yet), but when I compare the Muse of 2001-2005 with the current Muse, it just seems like they've made so many 'corporate' decisions to get ahead that wouldn't have phased them before.

I don't agree with the article in this thread in any way, obvs, I just think this Twilight shit is proof that they're willing to change their musical style for the purpose of appealing to a mass market - a prospect they would have given a two-fingered salute to in the early days. I know bands change, times change etc. but I'm not sure I understand why they felt the need to tie themselves to a huge franchise just to 'make it' in a country where they were already building a sizeable following. It's business and it's got great marketability, but since when were Muse about that?

If it's a simple case of them actually liking the films and the music they've made with it (which, in the case of the former, they don't) then that's their choice; but I'm not sure it's been entirely their choice throughout. Anyways, to end my ramble, I sincerely hope we haven't seen the end of the rockier, louder and feistier Muse - not just because of one song on a tweeny soundtrack, but because that seems to be the direction they're verrrry slowly edging towards with each album, too.

In all honesty Twilight has not done much for muse other than open up opportunities in the US, which as stated by Chris was the only option open to them to try and get as big in america as they are in the rest of the world.

Most pre-twilight-hardcore-musers (such as myself) hate twilight, we don't want our hardcore muse shizzle to be associated with anything as gimmicky as Twilight.

Muse-Fans-who-like-twilight often argue that muse gained more fans because of twilight. Yes this is obviously true, but how many of these fans only have SMBH, I belong to you (twilight remix) and Neutron Star Collision only on their iPods? and also I actually doubt twilight has really made a significant increase in the fanbase. if muse had never had been featured in twilight I imagine that the release of The Resistance back in 2009 would have probably gain more fans who would hopefully also buy the back-catalog of muse's albums. Muse would have made a bigger publicity push in america with the album and hopefully therefore give them the larger fan base they wanted.

Muse-fans-who-really-don't-care probably have less nightmares about a muse song that had been written for twilig... Oh wait :(

I know this is highly opinionated but I thought I'd give my two cents on the subject.

I do hope now that Muse will never find themselves in a situation that they have to "sell their soul" again.

There are some MASSIVE assumptions here....

"Most pre-twilight-hardcore-musers (such as myself) hate twilight, we don't want our hardcore muse shizzle to be associated with anything as gimmicky as Twilight." - Really? I consider myself to be a 'hardcore' muser dating back to 2003 and actually I quite like NSC... I am also liking the films... they are a bit boring and full of teen angst but watchable...

"Muse-Fans-who-like-twilight only have SMBH, I belong to you (twilight remix) and Neutron Star Collision only on their iPods" - Yeah.... do you want to check my iPod out...? OH and I HATE IBTY... so far 100+ (I've lost count) muse tracks (variations of albums, singles, live etc, pretty much everything they've done)

"I actually doubt twilight has really made a significant increase in the fanbase" - you are WAY underestimating the effect.... it has made a massive difference...

"Muse-fans-who-really-don't-care probably have less nightmares about a muse song that had been written for twilig... Oh wait :( " - How many times... NSC WASN'T written for Eclipse.... it was already written and Matt offered it to them when Muse were approached to do a track for the film....

Honestly all this TwiHate really makes me LOLS... you people really should get a life..

when I was talking about twilight not having a huge impact, I was comparing it to how if muse were not feature in twilight, that a huge publicity push on the resistance would perhaps had a similar increase of fans include those who learned of muse through twilight and actually really like the band plus those who became a muser from the resistance. plus the difference is only big in america, which was the main target of being associated with twilight. if you would like to make a statement saying "it has made a massive difference" then I urge you to back up your statement, maybe with figures of increase of shows in america, increase in number of audience capacity. or show how all muse albums sale increased since the release of twilight.

Well, news about the band, that is.

27-07-2010, 06:51 PM
I think it's to early to know for certain what the impact will be of all of this on the fanbase. Right now there is an influx of attention from people who heard a song in a movie or are seeing Muse as the new fad band. Some of those people will download a couple of songs or buy an album, but it's hard to say at this point what percentage of those people will dig deep enough to actually become fans of the band as opposed to fans of a particular song or album. Only time will tell....

Also, I think there should be a distinction made with respect to the twilight connection.

On the one hand, you have the comments from Stephenie Meyer, playlists on her website, etc. with her citing the band as an influence. Naturally, people who are fans of her writing are going to look into the bands she mentions and some of them will like the music too, resulting in new Muse fans who found the band "through twilight"

On the other hand you have the movies, with SMBH being featured prominently in the first one and NSC being an exclusive song, released as the lead single for the soundtrack of the most recent one. Yes, there will be some people who become fans of the band this way too, but I think this is where the "fad" aspect of the whole thing comes into play (and the soul selling) and where the odds of finding a large number of fans that stick around are fairly low.

So, like I said above, I think it may seem like Muse is getting this huge influx of fans from twilight because of the second group, but once things die down, in the end, the number of people left will not be all that high, and they could potentially end up with the same number of "new long-term fans" as they would have without the movie.

I don't know... I believe many of the new fans will eventually move on, but doesn't all the extra exposure increase the chance of potential long term fans hearing the music in the first place, even if only a little? So yeah, potentially they could end up with the same number of new long-term fans, but it's still exposure.

I have to back up my comments with stats and facts yet you can warble on regardless? The fact of the matter is Muse feature in the Twilight films, the first film was BEFORE The Resistance, this has exposed them to a different audience and therefore they have picked up a new type of fan... I don't need to quote uptake in concert tickets to prove my point I know from my kids and their friends at school. My daughter has been into Muse since she was 9 (She's now nearly 16).. no-one in her school even knew of them, except a few teachers, but since Twilight it is amazing how many of her friends now like them, have picked up their back catalogue and are going to LCCC.... that, my muse friend, is proof enough for me.

:erm: I don't know ANYONE that likes Death Cab because of Twilight. And I know much more Death Cab fans than Muse fans. :erm:

Pshhh Muse sold out Wembley before most of the world had ever heard of 'Twilight'. People treat them as if they'd be nobodies without it

True. Plus, they sold it out twice. XD
