You were right by me!

Hopefully they'll come back here on their own when they come back to the US. Both times I heard Dom speak he said something about how nice it was to finally come here. :3

Damn my youth! Wanted to make it to Voodoo because I had a feeling CE was going to be played and, sure enough...! Parents wouldn't let me go by myself to NOLA . Oh well. Glad for those who did get to hear it (finally). Hard to be bitter.

(although I did have my itinerary and hotel all planned out :( )

I love riffage :) It makes me happy. Too bad no Dead Star though. I think some people might have stormed the stage if they just teased it. Probably best. ;)

Poor Dom. He played his ass off during those riffs, and still had to do KoC. He looked beat.

Great video. But that crowd makes me so sad. :( Surely the band had to know how special it was to a lot the people there, and that's why they did it. CUZ it sure couldn't be from the crowd's reaction. Hopefully the hardcore barrier folks' reaction was worth it to them.

http://www.offbeat.com/2010/10/30/voodoo-day-1-muse-has-lights-and-weezer-wanders/

It’s tempting to think about Muses’s massive light show as a lot of hamburger helper, particularly after the low-tech Weezer set that preceded it, but it’s not. In England and Europe, they play to 100,000 or more at stadium and festival shows, and in such environments, lighting and lasers on an epic scale aren’t just exciting; they’re necessary. Musically, one friend said it’s what Queen would sound like today if a Queen hadn’t already existed (one interesting, mind-twisting way to think about it); for me, it was the sound of teenage love, heavy on the overwrought angst and drama parts. That explains why the audience under 25 was enraptured while many who were older were a bit non-plussed – real drama caught up to us & made our earlier teenage angst harder to take seriously.

http://www.nola.com/voodoofest/index.ssf/2010/10/trying_to_make_sense_of_muse_a.html

It can be difficult for the uninitiated to find the proper approach for appreciating Muse. Even after witnessing the trio shut down Voodoo Fest's opening night with an hour-and-20-minute spectacle on the main stage, I still can’t conjure the proper context for faux-revolutionary glam-rock.
The knowledge that Muse fills stadiums in its native England while, until recently, remaining relatively unknown state-side – Friday was the apparently the first-ever New Orleans concert in the band’s 15 year history – is disconcerting.
Singer/guitarist Matthew Bellamy and his unflappable rhythm section of bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard, augmented by auxiliary keyboardist Morgan Nicholls, raised a mighty racket. Muse is not an arena rock band in the traditional sense; electronic club beats intruded too frequently. Yet neither are they a techno band; Bellamy bulldozed through enormous, metallic riffs. His guitar heroics included the national anthem (America’s, not England’s), detouring into the signature riffage of AC/DC’s “Back in Black” and teasing epic bouts of feedback.

His tenor and falsetto voices, when sustained, recalled Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Also like Yorke, Bellamy isn’t much of a talker onstage. But where Radiohead paints abstractions in muted hues, Muse prefers bold strokes in primary colors. With lyrics about an “Uprising,” about surviving and not being taken alive, Bellamy and company come across with all the subtlety of a cavalry charge. They trafficked in anthems, but only a couple stuck in my head.
So it went for Muse at Voodoo, against a dazzling backdrop of lights, video, lasers and smoke. Bellamy eventually ditched his blue window-shade glasses and sparkling silver jacket, but stuck with the musical dramatics. At a grand piano with a clear top, he traversed “Feeling Good,” previously covered by the likes of Nina Simone, Sammy Davis Jr., Bobby Darin and Michael Buble. Muse found swinging heart of the song, even while pumping it up.
Tellingly, this most memorable song of the night was written by someone else. I respect the spectacle, but despite all its precise firepower, Muse ultimately left me cold.

Argh! I can't believe that crowd (seen here) didn't go bat-shit crazy! I can't get over the chick at 1:27 taking a drink when the chorus is getting ready to start. Come on, lady, this is when you jump and scream along, not quench your thirst.

just woke up from voodoo fest. It was one of the best shows I've been too. We snuck into the VIP area so we go to get some pretty good spots.... we could see the Bliss poster :)

The crowd seemed a little older in the VIP section and they didn't like me and my friend jumping around going crazy the whole time. Got some bad looks and people telling us we were in the way.

But ended up getting two set lists and two of chris's picks. If anyone saw guy in yellow pants and muse shirt that was me.

And yall saying we didn't deserve CE I politely say eat shit :)

Hi everyone,

Sorry I didn't keep up with my reputation of being a responsible tweeter last night. My 3g wasn't working most of the time.

So, I saw Muse 18 (I think) times during the resistance tour. Post-Muse-depression has set in...hard. just realizing that I don't have ANYTHING to put in my upcoming shows section of my siggy is sad.

Good show last night. I didn't see the whole thing, but could hear it.

Sad Dizzy is very sad.

Great video. But that crowd makes me so sad. :( Surely the band had to know how special it was to a lot the people there, and that's why they did it. CUZ it sure couldn't be from the crowd's reaction. Hopefully the hardcore barrier folks' reaction was worth it to them.

The crowd does look a little lackluster, unfortunately. I'm sure (hopefully) the people closer to the barrier were more energetic and into the song. I don't know how anyone can stand still during CE, but the guy in front of me at the Newark show actually sat down, which was fine with me because I was able to record the song without having his head on the video.

At the least I know Chris saw me freak out at the barrier and I screamed Thank You twice after when it got silent, so they had to have heard that

Also I checked using my camera, no KHud on the balcony.

I was at Voodoo last night too from Atlanta. To those of you who say the crowd didn't deserve citizen erased, you may be right. But let me tell you, I've been to three dates in the states and to Casino de Paris, and have never heard something so beautiful. I was BALLING during Citizen Erased last night so there was one fan in the crowd who has never appreciated something more (not to mention my friend who was headbanging the whole time). It took me until three songs later to stop crying!! We waited around after the show was over and chatted with the crew a little bit. Ended up getting two set lists and a few of Chris's guitar picks. Today our necks are sore from rockin out and we have some spoils....best Muse experience yet.

hoshit. life complete. i'd never gotten CE before. i lost my mind lol. i was like 1 or 2 people back right in the center, kind of on barrier on the walkway. being freakishly tall i had a great view haha. i do wish we'd gotten house of the rising sun but eh, what can you do? the half riffgasm was awesome too, though not as good as the one i got at LA2. but i really liked having them on stage without the towers. whee. plus footie with chris and hanging out with him in a bar later pretty much made my life. :awesome: oh voodoo, you've been good to me.

After seeing Ozzy last night at Voodoo, I had to post again. Matt could learn ALOT about being a front man of a band from Ozzy:LOL: That man knows how to work a crowd. I have always been a big fan of Matt's but after seeing him at Voodoo, I am not that big of a fan:( I still think he is a musical genius (vocally and musically), but as far as a front man, I like the young Matt much better. I guess that is who I expected to see:( Like I said in an earlier post, I don't think he looked at the crowd more than one or two times all night where as Chris and Dom (don't know about Morgan) looked out all night. Dom did ALL of the talking and was very personable. Chris tweets which makes him personable. The only time I thought Matt had fun was during the riffs with Dom. Dom had fun all night. He turned and smiled and waved at me (or at least that's what I think, could have been anyone) at the end of the show right before he thanked New Orleans. I really like the Matt of the early days who interacted with the audience and did crazy stuff on stage. Ozzy is in his sixties and did more crazy stuff on stage than Matt did:LOL: I have some great pics of Ozzy throwing water on the crowd and blasting the crowd with a hose of foam (really funny how he would pick on the security guys and the media cameramen:LOL:) I don't think I can post Ozzy pix here? Matt needs to find his WILD side again! I was expecting something amp sex? falling on the ground and playing? I think the wildest thing he did was play his guitar behind his head and Drake's guitar player did that last night (made it look easy too:rolleyes:) I still love ya Matt, but please find your old self on the next tour:D I WANT SHOWBIZ MATT BACK:LOL:

While I agree about Matt losing some of his front man appeal (and me missing it! :( ), I think it is done on purpose to share the spotlight with the others, which is really nice. And Matt doesn't talk to the crowd because he doesn't know what to say!

Do you really think that showbiz Matt was a good frontman?

I have to disagree with you there. Firstly, Matt has never acted like a frontman because he has never seen himself like one (he has said that a lot of times). I agree that Ozzy is an amazing frontmant, in his own way but I think comparing him to Matt is a mistake because they are two really different people who see the live show in a different way and when you go to see Ozzy you are going to see Ozzy's band, but when you go to see Muse you're not going to see Matt's band you're going to see Matt, Dom and Chris band, all their presences are equally important on stage :)

I agree that Ozzy is an amazing frontmant, in his own way but I think comparing him to Matt is a mistake because they are two really different people who see the live show in a different way and when you go to see Ozzy you are going to see Ozzy's band, but when you go to see Muse you're not going to see Matt's band you're going to see Matt, Dom and Chris band, all their presences are equally important on stage :)

i agree with you here. It has been said by matt in more than one interview that he has never been comfortable being the front man. So that is just how it is and you can't compare him to someone who is very comfortable being a frontman, aka Ozzy. We all can wish that he would be more interactive but that's not how he is and I for one accept him the way he is. There are rare few times where he is more talkative, goofy and silly and when that happens its great. I obviously love it when all three are this way.. It's part of what we love about them.

Matt did seem a little more distant than usual at this, but I didnt mind so much, it was still awesome.

I've really been wanting to hear MK, Bliss, and CE. I mean, theres more I want to hear, but those were my big 3 because they actually seemed possible. I was expecting only one and figured that one would be MK, so when they went MK straight into CE, I freaked out so much. I'm still in shock that i actually got to see CE live. This gig was very much success because of that.

Other notes from the fest- I thought Matt was the best guitar player ive ever seen live. That was, until I saw Tom Morello. Holy shit. I barely knew any of their stuff and I loved that set.

I dont know how it happened, but Die Antwoord had an amazing set. Maybe the best set of day 2 (Though street sweeper was some tough competition). I hadnt made up my mind whether i liked them or hated them, but that set sold me.

I am so glad you got to hear it. I think most of our complaints come from the videos we have seen that shows a very lackluster crowd, who have no idea the epicness that is occuring. I'm sure the front of the stage and barrier went nuts. *patiently waits for video* Good for you for finally getting it and I'm sure a lot of us can related to the crying and needing a few minutes to process what had just happened.

well, from everything ive heard, Voodoo crowds are usually pretty tame. I was at the barrier for muse though and everyone i know around me was going pretty crazy

The crowd was pretty crazy during street sweeper social club though (Though they did more to get everyone into it). And the dance tent crowds for the most part have been good. so I dont know.

About Matt - I thought in VA that he seemed a bit more distant than normal. He was still there and still into it, but he was kinda quiet I thought. I know he rarely ever says anything, but usually there's a random "cheers" or whatever, we barely got anything... he must have been in a quiet mood ;)

You funny boardies:LOL: Old Matt on Hullabaloo, HARRP, all early red haired, blue haired, yellow haired, whatever hair, most festival vids around the world on you tube show him as an excellent FRONT MAN. He was having FUN on stage that is what makes a person a good FRONT MAN:D I know he says he's never been comfortable as a front man and he's never considered himself a front man, but when he has sex with the amp:D throws drums off the platform or throws his guitar on the stage:D prances around on his toes, side step dances, I could go on, but I hope you know what I mean by being a GOOD FRONT MAN without me having to cite previous examples. Ozzy had a blast!!!!Matt went through the set and only cracked a smile during the riffs with Dom. I didn't expect him to talk to the crowd, but I did expect him to show a little unique Mattness on stage...I guess he's too old for that kind of stuff now. Don't get me wrong, he put on a great show, I just like the show old Matt used to put on, and still does when he isn't in the US:( I showed them all the LOVE I had in me and I'm paying for it now. My calves and neck muscles are in PAIN!!! I'm so glad I got to see MY FAVORITE BAND LIVE:D I am also a product of 80's Rock, so OZZY was AMAZING! Mr. Crowley, Suicide Solution, Mama I'm Comin Home, Iron Man and Crazy Train....OZZY knows what the people want to HEAR:p

I gotta say, at the Columbus show Matt was interacting quite a bit (for him) with the crowd. He was shining his double neck guitar light on both sides of the crowd for several minutes getting us all energized and was shining that weird metallic box on the crowd too. And he was running around a lot and hammering on the guitar, swinging it around and having a blast.

I don't need front men to interact much with the crowd. I just want them to look like they are having fun while playing. Some of my least favorite concerts are when the front man/woman spent too much time talking. I paid money to hear music, not have a conversation.

1.) My mic is atrocious

2.) So is yours - it's not equipped for that type of recording :)

3.) I still think Dom's electro-drumming on UD was awesome.

4.) I can't sing like Matt for shit, but I tried

5.) NOBODY NEAR ME sang along! :(

6.) Despite all of the above, I still thoroughly enjoyed their set

7.) I got a piece of eyeball!

Hey guys, been a huge Muse fan since 2005 and this was my first chance to ever see them live (VOODOO 2010). I was 5 people deep from the front barricade. Managed to get some great footage but the audio is not so good due to Chris's awesomely loud bass.

None of the videos from my phone have good sound quality at all :( video quality is great though, but I only got one very short video of Muse because i was attempting to stream it instead for you guys. got an awesome one of janelle monae when she went into the crowd though. And a good one of Metric from when I was on sidestage (Sound quality on it is actually decent too). I have this bad habit of putting my finger over the lens and that messed up some of my videos

And I finally watched that stream I did. Ouch. That was pretty bad. I shouldn't have bothered with that.

Hope the Fuse special has some good stuff on it. Its gotta have at least one muse song, I mean they were the top headliner.

what kind of camera are you using for the videos and pictures?? Is it a lumix?? I've just recently got my lumix the videos look good but the audio is not as great as my other camera which is the canon sd870. The audio isn't as loud in my opinion. You could be right next to the speaker with sd870 and the audio comes out perfect. For example with My Bloody Valentine.

I've just recently got my lumix the videos look good but the audio is not as great as my other camera which is the canon sd870. The audio isn't as loud in my opinion. You could be right next to the speaker with sd870 and the audio comes out perfect. For example with My Bloody Valentine.

Mine is a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ35. I don't ever have to use flash (somehow it works without it during gigs) and the sound is quite decent. Here's an example:

^^Love it!

Thanks for posting the picture, Jessica!! It's cute! It was so nice to meet you and everyone else. Yay Voodoo!!

It was great to meet you too!!! I had so much fun with you guys!

Haley, Travis and Dan, sorry you guys didn't make it into the group picture. This was just as we were leaving the barrier. I should have taken one when we were all at the sound booth, but my brain was boggled and my hearing shot from too much bass.

Another Muser pic. Thanks to Catherine for it! :)

It has already been a week! It was nice meeting some of you (and most of you again). Off to Austin today for another festival, but I'm sleeping in my car this time.

That was really really lame

A couple interviews, two ozzy songs, and it showed performances by Street Sweeper and Airborne Toxic Event, but it was playing the studio versions of the song for those for some stupid reason :/

so the only full live songs they showed were from Ozzy and they didn't even mention Muse's name

I cannot believe that I can't find an audio boot of this show yet! Maybe in a few more weeks? I should have brought in my own equipment. Anyway, I was bored this weekend, so I replaced the audio from my videos with some from the CA shows, so things will be off and won't match up exactly. But at least I can kind of relive some Voodoo action!

I have a feeling you continually had your camera out the whole weekend Jessica. :chuckle: Nice pics and vids! I'm getting a SLR camera and hopefully a lens so if I go next year, I'll be able to get some really good shots with a media pass.

Haha! Pretty much! I'd love to use my DSLR at a concert. I've been meaning to try for a media pass for a few different bands, but I think I'd rather have a good spot at the barrier the entire show. Maybe if I end up with seats at another show.

What I'm going to do is not get a photo pass, but just a media pass, so I can still shoot with a SLR around the festival, just not at the photo pit. That's how it worked at a festival last weekend. Plus, you get free food from backstage. :chuckle:
