Oh and The Song Remains The Same DVD!
What is evrybodys favourite song? Im undecided between Babe Im Gonna Leave You, Since Ive Been Loving You and Heartbreaker.

Anyone else hear 'Tangerine' in the background of an Orange ad recently? I've only seen it once and know how Zeppelin are pretty stingy in the way of permissions so i may have imagined it.

I'm almost always in the mood for Zeppelin, I love them a lot and see a lot of similiarities in bands i like today (Muse especially).
I've been listening to the longer songs by them lately like 'How Many More Times', 'Kashmir', and 'Tea For One'. Oh and 'Your Time is Gonna Come'.....They just had so many great songs (and are still great), it's hard to pick just one favorite. I have to be in the right mood to prefer one song over another, etc etc etc....
i listen to 'How Many More Times', and imagine the whole band playing this song together and thinking.....God, nobody could beat this i don't think. It feels so natural, the whole entire song, and for it to be on their first album, just that much better.
Apologies if this has already been posted.
what's the best Led Zepp song?
I reckon bron-y-aur (physical Graffitti) is the best, Jimmy Page at his creative best.

yeah but the original lyrics and music was by that other woman... or so I read on an special edition of a mexican mag dedicated to Led Zeppelin.. they also said that at the beginning they haven't included the name of the original composer and so she sued them or something so on the later editions of the album they had to include her name too

My favorite song is "Immigrant song"!!!!

It always surprises me how many people really like Achilles Last Stand, I just find it so very 'bleh' - same goes for all their later stuff really. But that's just me.
Give me anything from I to IV and I'll be happy  .
Achilles Last Stand is brilliant simply for the drumming. Of course the rest is brill, but still. The one that I find overrated (other than STH) is perhaps "When the Levee Breaks". I also find Physical Graffiti overrated. I only love two tracks (Kashmir, Bron Yr Aur). Also, I don't have a personal favourite album. Too much good stuff spread out over the ten albums.
Niles
10-10-2006, 05:30 AM
Speaking of overrated: Achilles has good drumming now? It's not fast, nor technical, nor difficult to play (except for the fill at 1:16). The most interesting drumming on a Zeppelin album is No Quarter. Bonham is the one of the most overrated drummers ever.
Still I love Led Zep. Especially:
When The Levee Breaks
No Quarter
Dazed & Confuzzled
In My Time Of Dying
Trampled Underfoot
Four Sticks
Misty Mountain Hop
Immigrant Song
Friends
Whole Lotta Love
What Is & What Should Never Be
Heartbreaker
Bring It On Home
We're Gonna Groove
I Can't Quit You Babe
The Ocean
Kashmir

Puppetmaster
10-10-2006, 07:18 AM
Achilles is slightly bleh as a whole. But the solo.... *waves lighter*
I love the drumming on Achilles simply because it sounds so bloody good. Technicality isn't what makes things good ya know. If you become too hooked up on whether or not something's hard to play or is technically brilliant, then you lose sight of what makes music good.
*Goes off to listen to Achilles Last Stand*

Demand for Led Zeppelin's one-off reunion gig has crashed the gig's official website.
Led Zeppelin are set to play the 02 Arena in London on November 26.
The show is a tribute event for Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
The ballot to get one of the 18,000 tickets, priced at £125 each, opened at 4pm but Ahmettribute.com crashed within minutes.
Promoter Harvey Goldsmith, who is putting on the event, said there was demand from as far afield as Japan, Australia and the United States. He predicted that the gig would cause the "largest demand for one show in history".
The £125 tickets are limited to two per person and will be distributed by ballot only.
Those wishing to go to the show must register on Ahmettribute.com to be in the ballot.
Registration closes on Monday (September 17), while any tickets that appear on online auction sites afterwards will be immediately cancelled.

They're only doing this for two reasons:
1. To honour the memory of the bloke who signed them back in the 60s
2. To promote their new best of
I very very very much doubt they'd do anything just for the money, Zeppelin never seemed like that kinda band.

Strange you should say that because when I heard about Mothership, my initial reaction was 'oh no, not another one' but when I looked into it... the amount of Zeppelin 'best ofs' or 'collections' is fairly small in comparison with many other bands of their era.
And also, all the Zep greatest hits/collections are utterly shit . The only one remotely worth getting is the Early/Latter days collection.
I think Mothership will be a proper send off so Zeppelin, so to speak. And anyhoo, is it even the bands idea/decision to release these sort of things? - I'd have thought it would be a company simply cashing in on their status and continuing popularity.

Page is rubbish live, he has always been. At least after his heroin years..
I've heard Zeppelin sounded great, but that's from people who think Page is
the greatest guitarist ever in history. Led Zeppelin was great, but let's face it
Page was sloppy as hell.

Agreed. I don't think it was just Page, though. Just watch the majority of their live videos from 1973 onwards; Plant and Bonham were usually just as sloppy as Page.
On the Song Remains The Same, the version of Stairway To Heaven is a prime example of their sloppiness. The guitar is not even in tune with the Mellotron, which alone makes it painful listening! And Robert Plant just sounds lazy and drugged up.
I do like their first three albums, though. Maybe they will be better at the reunion concert because they have had so much time to prepare. And none of them are messed up on drugs this time.

'Since I've Been Loving You'
'Dazed And Confused'
'Stairway To Heaven'
'The Song Remains The Same'
'Misty Mountain Hop'

Let me just say that Robert Plant is an amazing vocalist, but nobody can deny that he's not as good as he once used to be. Now, there are people who claim that he sounds horrible, and that's a bit too harsh. The man still holds a decent voice, but it's clearly a bit far from being at the top of it's game.
This is the reason why they didn't play 'Immigrant Song', because he can't sing that song in another key other than the original.
After seeing the YouTube videos I have to say that I'd be very glad to watch them live if they decided to tour, but I might enjoy more watching them again on the 'How The Wast Was Won' DVD.

Re-unions like that are always a bit meh. Sure, the nostalgia factor holds it all together for the audience, but the chemistry's gone, and they all probably hate each other or are totally indifferent. How the West was Won is:
"released in 2003. These original performances are from the band's 1972 concert tour of the United States, recorded at the L.A. Forum on June 25, 1972 and Long Beach Arena on June 27, 1972. Reunion rumor has squashed. :(
News from Sep 28 (The Sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/music/article1735624.ece))
A source revealed: The rest of the band had all but given up on Robert joining them, but they were determined to go ahead so had started to seriously explore other avenues. He realised he couldn’t face the thought of not being involved. They are now forging ahead with the tour plans and they can’t wait to get on the road.
Then today (Robert Plant official site (http://www.robertplant.com/index.php?l1=2&l2=0&l3=0&articleID=186&rt=NE))
... and tomorrow they (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) play Portland, Oregon before finishing the tour in Saratoga, California on October 5th.
After those dates, Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years. Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.
“It‘s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward,” Robert Plant said.
“I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects,” he added.
at least 2 yrs! Sounds like it'll never happen, Jimmy will be nearly 70. :( :(

Dave Ling: It's good news that there might be more from Cream?
Jack Bruce: "Well, the trouble is that I'm doing so many amazing things on my own. Cream is just a band from many, many years ago, and we did do something [referring to the reunion shows in 2005]…
"Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig - one fucking lame gig - while Cream did weeks of gigs. Proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything.
"We played everything in the original keys. [Becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you're crap. You've always been crap and you'll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they're sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is."
Ling: That's a bold opinion.
Bruce: "What? You're gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that?"
Ling: To be fair, they're different kinds of player, aren't they?
Bruce: "No! Eric's good and Jimmy's crap. And with that I rest my case."

I don't like Cream, Jack Bruce or Led Zeppelin. He sounds bitter that he made a bit less money from the Cream reunion. Still, I don't mind what he's saying solely because I think Led Zeppelin are shit.
Led Zeppelin are the most talented rock band of all time bar none. Creme are meh, Ok.

They're hardly the most talented. I've seen so many videos of them live where Jimmy Page couldn't even co-ordinate his hands properly. Trying to play guitar faster than you are physically able to is not really talent.
Anyway, I think we can all agree that Mahavishnu Orchestra were the most talented 'rock' band of all time.

Jack Bruce though also said he thinks that Cream and Hendrix were the bands that paved the way for Led Zeppelin. I think he feels Cream is not getting the credit they deserve. I sort of agree. I like Led Zeppelin but I think Cream covered the territory first.

He's got a point about Led Zeppelin the whole 02 arena gig was an overblown farce, and it was simply embarrasing watching them struggle to perform with the same gusto they used to - changing key pfft........just don't bother coming back. Howether Clapton is also an overrated tosser and Cream were nothing more than average so he hasn't really got a leg to stand on. Bands simply should't reform after so many years, it's a blatant and disgusting cash in and nothing more.
And before the usual 'coming from an Oasis fan:LOL:' comments, I don't care it's just a username.

I find this really amusing since Page and Clapton were both original members of the Yardbirds...and I don't think one is better than the other. They just differ stylistically.

I simply think Jimmy Page has written much better music and his style remains more original...
Cream and The Doors are two of kind anyway and Zeppelin is different...

How? Cream were a power trio, the doors didn't even have a bass player for most of their albums.

Clapton is overrated.
Good guitar player, but his style is not mind blowing.
Clapton just took what traditionalist blues guitarists had done decades before, and introduced it to a rock audience.
The O2 gig with Led Zeppelin was just way behind expectations. Mostly due to Robert Plant's voice, and my guess is that this might be the reason why he's not willing to join Led Zep again. Plant just can't hit those high notes anymore, but the media is still willing to create hype just because it's "Led Zeppelin", or should I say Led Zeppelin - 1
Led Zep are Gods. OK, maybe not the most talented, but well ahead of their time. Songs like When The Levee Breaks were just epic for their time.

What can I say about Zepp - to me, I think they will always remain the ultimate rock band. Never before or since has any band had the kind of mystique and presence they had. When Page used a theremin on stage, I think half the people in the audience thought he was coaxing demons out of his Marshall stack (of course he never denied that might be the case)...Admittedly, part of that magic was people's naivity at that time - it was more magical back then. Now rock-and-roll is a much more community-driven phenomenon, and a thousand twelve-year-olds are playing insane solos on Youtube with Les Pauls that Jimmy Page probably couldn't afford - but back then, only wizards and warlocks like Page and the boys could make that kind of magic happen...

My fav guitar blasts are the ones in Dazed and Confused - y'know, the "WE'RE CHANNELLING SATAN NOW!" ones :DThat song- the beginning of it anyway, is very simple. Yet, when I play it at home, it sound so stupid. :$ Actually, a lot of phrases of Zep songs are like that, but not many people in the world can pull off like Page does. What can I say about Zepp - to me, I think they will always remain the ultimate rock band. When I heard Zep for the first time, suddenly my fav band The White Stripes sounded very immature. Zep is the ultimate. :yesey: I can imagine what you describe about audience with Theremin - now I think we have better idea how it works, but it still looks magical to me. I think it was the combination of Page's atmosphere and the way he did it (I saw it on 'Song Remains the Same' DVD). In the new documentary 'It Might Get Loud', there's a short segment Page shows Jack White and Edge how he did it, but it didn't look very magical in the studio environment. :rolleyes:My favourite song of all-time.It's a time-stopper, isn't it? :D

Fantastic band. I love most of the albums but am not so keen on Houses Of The Holy nor Presence, although Achilles Last Stand is fantastic. I even like In Through The Out Door which is more keyboard orientated. Despite appearances to the contrary, the best musician in Led Zeppelin is John Paul Jones and that's a fact. ;) In fact the two best multi-instrumentalists in rock are clearly John Paul Jones and Matt Bellamy.
