My friend copied 'The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place' for me and it is quite possibly the most beautiful album I've ever heard. Memorial and The Only Moment we are Alone are so moving, my eyes got runny with some form of salty eye juice.

I was talking to a security guy at the Mando Diao gig last week, and he really digs this band. I had a quick listen the other day, but I think I need to hear more before coming to a decision on them. What tracks would people recommend?

BlackoutMatt
08-11-2005, 09:43 PM

but your sig has thrown me a bit, since someone else on that board has that sig...and a certain Wincy is also on this here board...

*is confused*

so is this Sarah/loveisokay, and you happen to turn 20 on the same day as RocketBabyDoll/Dave?

*that would be one mammoth coincidence...

Explosions in the Sky have announced that they've completely finished writing for their next album. The album has six songs, ranging from three to thirteen minutes in length and will have artwork from Esteban Rey. The band plans to begin recording the album in August and hopes for a February release.

The band will be performing a few shows in the meantime, including the 10th anniversary/birthday party for Temporary Residence Records on September 2nd at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City and the Austin City Limits Festival on September 16th.

the first pressing of the gatefold double LP format features an exquisite etching on the fourth side, and will be available on colored vinyl (light yellow and navy blue to match the artwork), and will also include the bonus CD of remixes. All of these limited features will disappear very, very fast. So get with it!

"Hi everyone,

We're sad to say that, on account of some insane and severe storms
that have been hammering the eastern seaboard of the US, we have had
to cancel our shows in Glasgow and Manchester. We were supposed to
leave the US this afternoon but it didn't happen because of the huge
amount of air traffic delays. We have a new set of flights scheduled
and we have every intention of showing up for the London show.

Both of the missed shows will be rescheduled and all tickets wil be
honored. We will let you know any information as to when as soon as
we have it.

Anyway, we are truly sorry about this. Please spread the word to
anyone you might know who was thinking of attending.

Love and apologies,
Explosions"

Well I tried the album out, and it wasn't really my cup of tea. They just don't seem to have the same power behind them as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, or Mono. And they're not minimalistic enough to be like Set Fire to Flames either.

I can understand the appeal, but they're not my cup of tea. Thanks for recommending an album though.

I'll have to wait till I'm home, for some reason the connection in residence won't play myspace music. Also it forces youtube videos to load all the way before they'll play.

fair do's. also give Grails, The Ascent of Everest, Sparrows Swarm and Sing a try they all have really unique touches to post rock without being carbon copies of GY!BE or eits.

I've heard mixed reviews. My colleague Ben reviewed it last week and gave it a pretty damning 5/10. Others I've heard call it the best thing since Dead Place.

I personally think it's their best since Dead Place. Of course, Dead Place is a unique album and the band will never make anything like it again, but damn this album comes close.

Listened to it once half asleep. Pretty good without being stellar. Really like the drone-like guitar in the background at the top of the opener.

There newest album Take Care [x3] is probably the best album they've done since EINACDP in my opinion. That one is worth picking up.

Not to mention it's my favourite album of 2011 at the moment :)

Ok, listened to Dead Place and Take Care. I love both. I don't know why I ignored post-rock so long, because I just listened to Mogwai pretty recently too and loved them too.

But yeah, now I'm pretty excited to see them. I didn't really care before

Not to mention it's my favourite album of 2011 at the moment :)

By the way, want to mention, after seeing them Wednesday, I now have this longing to see them again. Those build-ups were awesome, and they are extremely talented. Though there was a little bit closer to the end where they slowed it down a bit and it wasn't as loud, but the beginning of the set was incredible.

Will try to see them again next chance I get
