Hi! I was wondering, is there any Muse songs/lyrics that mean anything to you like they made you think about the world and what's going on, influences you in anyway or change the way you think about people? If so, then please share them, thanks!

not so much the lyrics (though they make me smile and raise my mood every time, of course :) ) but Feeling Good is a little bit of a 'stickin' it to the Man' anthem for me as a Nestle boycotter

My song that means something to me is Butterflies&Hurricanes. Especially the lyrics: you got to be the best

My parents are very controlling, so I always feel like I can identify with Showbiz...
Actually the lyrics on the whole album are meaningful to me...

A lot actually.

Megalomania: Opened my eyes to the universe and made me really think; why are we here?
Butterflies and Hurricanes: It's been my dream to change the world, and this song really encouraged me to continue on.
Take a Bow: My "angry" song. It calms me in a way, and reminds me to be open minded to resist the evils in the world.
Glorious: Gave me a real perspective of the universe and our existence.
Blackout: Reminded me not to waste my childhood or my life for that matter, and to recognize the good things in life, like love and happiness.
I Belong To You (+Mon Coeur S'ouvre A Ta Voix): Makes me emotional about how strong love is, and how it can make anyone do anything for that one person.
Exogenesis Symphony: We are the universe, that is all.

Apocalypse Please: My introduction to Muse, and made me feel like no song before it ever had. The perfect introduction to the grand adventure over the rest of my life. This is the end of the world as I had known it.

Shine (Acoustic): I was listening to this when I found out my grandpa died... and it was oddly appropriate, and yet somehow comforting.

Blackout: I'm not sure why, but the feeling I get from this one is just incredible, really makes me want to go out and just live my life and do things with the time I have. This life's too good to last, indeed. I guess a lot of Muse songs make me feel like this, but there's something about Blackout that makes it... stronger.

Stockholm Syndrome: My feel good song for every occasion. :D Very liberating song as well... "I won't hold you back."

Map of Your Head: A simple song that reminds me of just having fun and being young and lost. Which I can relate to, seeing as that's how I feel all the time these days. :p

Exogenesis: Exogenesis is humbling. Who are we, when are we, where are we, why are we here? The grand scope of the music reminds me of the vastness of the universe and makes me realize how insignificant we really are. And yet, as Mizutsu said it, "We are the universe." Because our world is all we know. And we create such huge problems, but then we can start over, because it's not the end after all.

Exogenesis + Exo Politics= just the theory
Time is running out= because time IS running out, and I'm restricted. Not 2 be depressing, but Earth won't be here anymore in 2 years, so I'll never be 18 :(. I'll never get to do what I want
Citizen Erased= just...I love it
Map of the problematique= because when we bleed we bleed the same
Endlessly= my love from afar to one of my guy-friends
Uno= muse is #1

Map of Your Head: A simple song that reminds me of just having fun and being young and lost. Which I can relate to, seeing as that's how I feel all the time these days. :p

+1
This song is pretty descriptive of my entire life at the moment. In all my confusion and stress, it makes me feel really good about being who I am and having the oportunities that I have, and it makes me feel real.

Time Is Running Out: Can make me happy and full of energy no matter how down I am. It also holds a lot of happy memories from my year at photography-school and with my friends there. ROADTRIP!!! Uhm...yeah.

The Small Print: What are we doing with our poor world? It's become corporate, media-driven and mad... We're pretty much all part of it, but it's not really how we want it to be. We exploit people without even being aware of it...

Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist: Of course, this is pretty obvious, but really, it was a turning point in my life when I realized I wasn't able to believe in what the religion I was brought up in meant. I wanted to believe there was something watching over us, but I just wasn't able to. It doesn't make sense to me. So obviously, the following thoughts were that "this is it", I only have this one life. And as much as I want to believe that there is something more, I can't.

Exo-politics: Well... I definitely believe that there is life out there somewhere on other planets. I don't have any theories about when they will find us/we them or what they will be like, but if there's life here on Earth, I don't see why there shouldn't be somewhere else as well.

New Born: There isn't MUCH depth to why this means a lot to me. It was simply the song that made me go from being a random fan of Muse to a major fan instead. This, live, monumental. Me, a cliché, new born. XP

Argh, gosh, now my brain is too tired... Will continue later sometime.

Ah, Citizen Erased!! I really, really hate being questioned and magnified. Really.

I can pretty much relate to all Muse songs. Megalomania means a lot to me. I'd love to get the lyrics tattooed on me, but it's just TOO pessimistic...

Every song they have meaning to me. However, feeling good has probably had the largest impact on me. the song has so much meaning to me... for obvious reasons. Unintended is a close second.

Map of the Problematic...I heard this song just as I hit a rough patch in a relationship and it's relevance blew my mind...gave the song a seemingly deeper meaning than I used to realise.
(When will this loneliness be over...Can't get it right since I met you etc you get the idea)

ALL of them. :D

But seriously, if I had to create a soundtrack of Muse songs for my life the past year, it would be:

- Time Is Running Out
- Sing For Absolution
- Stockholm Syndrome
- Hysteria
- Endlessly
- Starlight
- Supermassive Black Hole
- Glorious
- In Your World
- Can't Take My Eyes Off You
- Bliss
- Darkshines
- Cave
- Unintended
- Overdue

and even though they are new songs

- Resistance
- Undisclosed Desires
- Guiding Light

Falling in love with someone, thinking you have a chance with them and dreaming about the future, then getting rejected and dealing with the fall out is not a pretty thing.

It fucking hurts like hell!!

No one's posted on this thread for a while, but I wanna :p

Invincible: Say what you will, I love Invincible. It's a great song that represents how we should (and can) come together as one in order to make things right. We're all comrades anyway, no matter where we live or what differences we may have.

Falling Down: I dunno why I've been affected by FD so much. To me it means something like 'I'm moving on from this, and you can't stop me'. Like a form of rebellion for the better. The line 'thousand houses burning down, no one is gonna save this town...' always stands out to me like that.

Hyper Chondriac Music: It's so powerful and emotional. It doesn't actually strike a specific emotion for me, but everything about it just makes me want to belt out my true feelings deep down. It's really powerful, I'll say that again.

Blackout: The lyrics, the orchestra, the solo....it's perfect. Something you need to listen to in order to understand.

Citizen Erased: Those last two minutes hit me everytime. Some of the best, if not the best, lyrics ever written by Muse. Plus, the way it escalates and mellows out in the way that it does is amazing.

Exogenesis: I'm at a loss of words on how to describe Exogenesis. THe above people have explained it better than me, so, y'know :p

There are several for me. In the past two years I've hit the lowest point I ever have. To this day..I still remember certain days and being in the car listening to certain songs and just being able to get through the next moment.

-Easily (especially right now)
-Map of the Problematique (is my life in every way for the past two years..listening to this..is something quite special and sad at the same time)
-Hysteria (same as above)
-Time is Running Out
-Parts 1&3 of Exogenesis
-Plug In Baby
-Feeling Good (both of the last two are my, feeling completely alive songs)

Eternally Missed - musically and lyrically it moves me coz it's simple yet effective, to me at least, as well as sums up my life, essentially
Uprising - makes me wana grab a baseball bat and go beat up the government basically hahaha
Uno - PERFECT for my relationship right now/ the ending of it
Muscle Museum - perfectly sums up basically my life, same as EM
Futurism - makes me think about, you guessed it, the future

There are so many more .. but those are the biggies

Oh and Crying Shame - musically, that riff seriously makes me wana write a movie and put this song in it and have like, a break up scene with the chick throwing stuff around at her bf .. :awesome: yes please!!! But also, that sums up my relationship with my bf also :yesey: I wana scream "ITS A CRYING SHAME" at him down a megaphone right into his hairy ear.

Bliss: the first song I got addicted to. it still sends shivers down my spine every time...

Map of the Problematique: 'Loneliness be over'. that says it all.

Shine (acoustic): actually makes me cry.

Citizen Erased: it calms me.

Fillip: the song reminds me my first true love - so quickly and so deep in the mess.

Falling Away With You: the lyrics are ...

Butterflies & Hurricanes: simply because of really strong lyrics. "You've got to be the best, You've got to change the world and use this chance to be heard."
Knights of Cydonia: lyrics are...............so GOOD. This song makes me fight against this stupid system. It makes me much stronger than I really am.
Falling Away With You: reminds me a lot of things. Pure awesomeness this song is.
Invincible: yeah, I do love that song. When I'm feeling down, I want someone to sing this to me, so I usually choose Matt. Helps a lot. :yesey:
Take A Bow: I dunno how to explain the feeling I get when I listen to this song. Something weird. I love it.
Citizen Erased: made me think about a lot of things. The chorus hits me everytime. This song is a monster.
Also, Bliss, Time Is Running Out ("I won't let you bury it, I won't let you smother it, I won't let you murder it"), Stockholm Syndrome, Space Dementia, Muscle Museum, Uprising, United States of Eurasia, In Your World mean so much to me. There are too many.

Map of the Problematique - "Why can't we see when we bleed, we bleed the same"

Unintended - Just the overall song is so sweet and well said. (:

Falling Away With You - "I'll love whatever you become, forget the reckless things we've done, I think our lives have just begun"

I'm sure there are MANY more but those are the ones that are sticking out in my mind right now (:

The song that probably means most to me is Shine (Acoustic). I don't know why but I can just really relate to it:
"Remember when we used to shine, and had no fear or sense of time."
It makes me feel teary, but uplifted at the the same time

Oh god....

Invincible: This song make me keep going when i just wanna give up. The day after i almost died i heard it for the first time and just cried. Matt's voice is so damn beautiful in it. It's my "never give up" anthem. So this song means SO much to me. Makes me wanna live. and it reminds me how far i've come and it makes me forget all the shit that happened to me in the past.
Showbiz: i've had many problems with my controlling abusive parents so i feel like this song kinda understands me.
Blackout: wow the first time i heard this song....! HITS ME EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really makes you THINK you now. this song gives me an out of this world experience. matt is a genius.
Undisclosed Desires: This song means SO much for me. I can relate so so so much to this song. It always calms and soothes me down.
Map of the problematique: When i hear this song i get a crazy feeling :D it feels like i'm....falling. and i just feel all those feelings you could possibly feel.
Falling Away With You: The mere mention of this songs name makes me emotional.
Muscle Museum: Sums up my life.
Butteflies and Hurricanes: "Best you gotta be the best....." makes me wanna FIGHTTT!
Time is running out: Matt himself said that this song is about feeling suffocated, feeling like that your last chance is taken away from you by something that's outside your power. And that's basically EXACTLY how i've been feeling this whole year.
Stockholm Syndrome Amazing...epicness!
Resistance Makes me feel EVERYTHING. so so so so so so beautiful <3
Shine (acoustic) i always listen to this song before i go to sleep after a long day. And this song makes me feel like he's singing to ME. "remember when we used to shine" MEMORIES................
Exogenesis Fucking beautiful. Always makes me teary.
Uprising: When i feel like beating up the whole government and the illuminati b*tches.
Uno: when i'm disappointed in myself and feel like i've could have been so much better. "you could have been numer one you could have ruled the whole world....." ;)

MATT'S VOICE IS .....WOW. i think you guys get what i'm talking about.. TOO INCREDIBLY AMAZING FOR WORDS. PURE AWESOMENESS. PERIOD. I. LOVE. HIM.

Blackout: Since I heard that song I dunno... somehow I realized that I should be happy that I've got a chance to live, and I should just enjoy life and do what I want to.
Butterflies and Hurricanes: "You've got to be the best"...it inspires me if I want to stop learning or doing something important, or if I think about something that I am not able to do it. This song made me more optimistic.
Megalomania: I think about the life on earth and getting children totally different than ever before.
Showbiz: I can identify with that song if someone wants to tell me what I should do.

I'll be vague, to not bore you all with the story of my life

Blackout, a relationship...
Invincible, "stand up for what you believe" <3
Escape, a point in my life (lyrics)
Stockholm Syndrome, my frist Muse song and also relates to my intrest in psychology
Falling Away With You, again, same relationship... sums up a lot of beuatiful moments.
Falling Down, kind of like a quiet rebellion, showing a small town that you're bigger than what they've made you out to be...
Easily, "when you're feeling beautiful, will you remember me?"

There's a lot more - these are off the top of my head

Right in the middle of that shit at the moment :(

Showbiz is just intense to listen to - just amplifies how I feel at the time of listening

Micro Cuts Same deal really :P

Endlessly Just illustrates my inability to move on from a lost cause :(

Hoodoo Makes me cry quite often - the depth of the lyrics hits me hard every time - I'm doing my major piece in Yr 12 Media using this song

Undisclosed Desires What can I say? I'd love to have my undisclosed desires satisfied :supersad:

Guiding Light But this song just makes me feel lucky to have such a great friendship with the one I love, and he still can get me out of the worst depressive moods <3

Showbiz - I guess.. when I think about it, it's a warning to my friends  they know not to push me too far.
Uprising - this chorus has always been in my mind. being deaf, i've always had people looking down their noses at me, and calling me stupid, dumb, just..things you don't want to hear, ever. but this helps me get over it, kinda of, spit it back in their face and walk away from it.
Blackout - this. is just so amazing. the music is soothing, but the vocals, wow. the whole thing combined brings me to tears near enough every time. i live my life, it's too short to linger. :yesey:
Falling away with you - 'Staying awake to chase a dream', says it all for me.
Knights of Cydonia - no-one's going to take me alive. :)
Muscle Museum - i live in a town that could be Teignmouth's welsh twin :chuckle: it's a seaside town, full of idiots  who don't think anyone is gonna make it big. pessimistic bastards. so, yeah, same reasoning why matt wrote it, i guess.

There are way too many Muse songs that mean something to me personally and that I can connect with on an emotional level that it would be difficult to list them here. But I have to mention Hoodoo, it's my favorite song, the lyrics are brilliant and the song as a whole is just powerfully epic yet still subtle compared with much of Muse's music. /ramble

Wow... There are so many Muse songs that means a lot to me... each song means something else, other period, other situation...

Butterflies & Hurricanes- That is my favorite song. I can't describe the feelings I felt when I first heard that song. I just told myself "this is it. this is the song. that is my song, my favorite song!" the strong lyrics with the strong melody... It just works! amazing song. Everytime I'm listening to it before I'm going to sleep, I just close my eyes, enjoying the moment, and It sooths me, calms me down.

Showbiz- I identify with all the lyrics. It makes me feel that this song was written about me... describes PERFECTLY my feeling and what I had and have to deal with.
And the "scream" at the end contains all the emotions I felt at the middle of the song, makes me wanna scream with him, and I get shocked every single time I'm listening to it by his breathtaking voice.

Bliss- I Identify with the whole lyrics. It's like he's singing through my throat, It's simple as it sounds. Just read the lyrics, I'm sure you'll figure out what I'm talking about.

Resistance- This song is so strong. I took it's meaning and did a switch. I mean, I took the lyrics to my own life, even though Matt maybe didn't even thought about the meaning that way. It shows me that you can take all the Muse songs and twist their meanings to your own situations, and almost everyone can identify with the lyrics, cause Matt gives us the opportunity to figure out the meanings of the song by yourself, so everybody can look at this song through his eyes. This line is the most strong, for my opinion: "Kill your prayers for love and peace, You'll wake the thought police! we can't hide the truth inside".

Sunburn- I get all goosefleshed when I'm listening to it. "Come let the truth be shared, no one ever dared to break these endless lies, secretly she cries..." The words are talking by themselves.

Cave- remind me of myself. once again, just read the lyrics, it simple as it sounds.

Undisclosed Desires- I think that this song is under-rated, because it's "un-Museish".
I actually love this song, I love the way that Muse can reinvent themselves, and do any genre they want to, that's amazing. I can see that behind the scenes, there is a real meaning for these lyrics, I really do.
I'd want the undisclosed desires in my heart to be satisfied.

Unnatural selection-
* "They'll laugh as they watch us fall, the lucky don't care at all, No chance for fate, It's unnatural selection! I want the truth."
* "We are not droplets in the ocean."
* "I wanna speak in a language that they'll understand"

Muscle Museum- "Can you see that I am needing? Begging for so much more, that you could ever give..." That sentence is more than just few words, it can describe a whole life, I mean it.. seriously. I actually wrote it in my facebook few days ago...

Exogenesis symphony part 3: Redemption- "Let's start over again... why can't we start it over again?"
"It's our last chance to forgive ourselves"

Pink Ego Box- genious song. I can't believe that no one wrote about it before... Can't stop listening to it, It's addictive, and the more I listen to it- the more I identify with it, totally.

Megalomania- "Take off your disguise, I know that underneath It's me"
"What are they for? They'll just grow up, and break the laws you've loved"
I also love the name of the song, Megalomania... there are a lot of things in this name. really.

Knights of Cydonia+ Map of the Problematique- strong lyrics!!!

New Born- I don't think that you can imagine how much weight the line "Destroy the spineless" carries for me!!! those 3 words are so meaningful through my eyes!

Blackout- everytime I'm listening to this song, I go: "what have I done? I spent my childhood without even noticing. From the second I was born, I lost my innocence, I lost the most basic trait for a child, for a man, for every human being.. I should have used this wonderful chance to be a child, but I missed it." Breathtaking song, I think that every single person better listen to it, before he'll do something that he'll regret on.

Citizen Erased- "Wash me away, clean your body of me. Erase all the memories, They'll only give us pain. And I've seen, all I'll ever need..."

i did have a list written out, but i was adding explaining lots, so i'll just mention them and say that i've got my reasons for all of them:

map of the problematique, stockholm syndrome, sing for absolution, showbiz, exogenesis (all 3), citizen erased, easily, fury, butterflies and hurricanes, ruled by secrecy, falling away with you, space dementia.

yeah. those. probably the first two i mentioned have the most meaning to me though.

Endlessly is a song that reminds me of my first crush - I dreamt about getting her so much but never told her how I truly felt. There's a lot of emotional pain in that song but thats why I like it.
Hysteria also means stuff to me because of the frustrations I get when I want people I hand-on-heart know I won't win.
Map of the Problematique also means stuff - the desire again and refusal to give up but feeling you've always been wrong around her and feeling angry and lonely.

There's a few others too probably.

How did I not know about this thread before - I love reading what everyone has to say :) Sooo many songs mean so much to me - maybe when I'm not nearly unconscious from lack of sleep I'll write more but lines that really stuck out for me last year when I was reinventing my life upside-down and backwards (and there was no turning back) was "Don't waste your time or time will waste you" from Knights of Cydonia and "Don't let yourself down, Don't let yourself go, Your last chance has arrived" from Butterflies and Hurricanes. My situation wasn't as desperate as it sounds but during moments at 2 in the morning, dark out and I'm surrounded by packing and cleaning it was like there were these 3 people on the other side of the world somewhere who may have had a clue what I was going through.

Butterflies and Hurricanes means a great deal to me. Its the song that made me realise that this was it. Muse were something big coming into my life. I just thought, how can a rock band dare to put classical music into their songs?

Invincible (in particular the lyrics) means a lot to me. I want to go into acting as an adult, but my mum told me I wasnt good enough and it was a waste of the education she payed for. I began to believe her, and my life had no direction or purpose. Invincible made me think better of myself and trust my own abilities.

Exogenesis symphony means a lot to me too. I was a huge Muse fan before the Resistance, but I depended on that album to make me on obsessive fan. I remember listening the whole way through and crying over and over because I felt complete.

We are the Universe is amazing. I play it and shut my eyes and Im back at my first Muse gig. And we all know how that feels.

How come I didn't find this thread earlier?

Well, the album Absolution means a very big lot to me actually, as it was the album that helped me through one of the hardest studying times I can remember. It was quite paradox really 'cause the apocalyptic feel (especially amusing word game since I like Apocalyptica too :chuckle:) fit in so well with the situation but nevertheless I was gaining such an amount of power through listening that it was quite an extraordinary situation as it helped me get through the whole thing.
Adding to that, it's incorporated in some ingeniously lovely times, lying on my bed in the sun just listening to this album... :awesome::dance:

Standing out most of all was B&H, which sort of became my anthem for the years to follow. :D

Ok don't hit me anybody for this one, but Neutron Star Collision means an extremely big lot to me too. I won't explain why here, but it just does, and for a damn good reason :)

But actually, nearly all Muse songs really mean something to me... :)

Space Dementia was my first Muse song- beautiful

Dead Star- especially the chorus- "you used to be everything to me"

Map of the Problematique- the lyrics are powerful and relate to a few moments in my life

Escape- "you would say anything, and you would try anything, to escape your meaningless, and your insignificance" "I'll take back all the things that i said, i didnt realise i was talking to the living dead."- pretty self explanitory

Invincilbe, Butterflies and Hurricanes- both have beautiful lyrics and make me feel amazing and confident when i listen to them.

Exogenesis 3- makes me feel that i can try again

Blackout- make the most of life with the ones you love and still have with you

Plug in Baby- school days :)

Unintended and Undisclosed Desires- just for the lyrics- esp. Unintended- "I'll be there as soon as i can. but im busy mending broken pieces of a life i had before...you"

"If you only found the time"
"And you don't know what you've done"

Yeah Id have to agree... i love reading these posts they just make me fall in love with muse all over again.

Im not sure but i think Ruled by Secrecy probbaly is the one song that means the most to me, not really for the lyrics but just because of the first time i heard it. It was just when i was first getting to know the band. I woke up about 3.00 am one night to see snow falling onto my floor and looked out the window to see everything coverd in white. I just got My ipod put on the first thing i found (Ruled by Secrey) and just watched the snow fall...
Oh im so sad sometimes:$
