I think initially... yes. But once you pay attention.. they are so far apart. It really is mostly Paul's voice resembling that of Ian's.
But after a year and a half and seeing them like 9 times already.. i can't get enough. I'm going though withrdrawls right now.....

I finally got the album a while back after having heard a lot about them, and I wasn't disappointed at all, they're a really great band, and I'm glad they're starting to get more and more recognition.
My favorite is either PDA or Obstacle 1.

My Interpol favourite:
Stella was a diver...
they're awesome. a sexist remark: carlos is sexy :p
i like PDA, lovely. Stella is a great song to hear them play live. They're not much fun to watch live, since they don't move or show emotions or whatever, but maybe they're just shy and insecure. they're very young after all.
one other tip, apart from checking out joy division: try to find some music from The Sound or The Chameleons as well!!! Listen and weep...

young?
urmm the youngest is about 25, with the oldest in his mid to late 30's i think,
still excellent though, :D

yup indeed, i looked it up, thought they were younger. must eb because Paul (leadsinger) is such a youngster that the whole band looks so young. Carlos (bass) is 29, Daniel (leadguitar) 28, and Samuel (drums) 35. Samuel is pretty new to the band so I'm not sure whether he's been much of an influence to their style-choice. From the bio's I would guess it's mostly Carlos' style. Whoever it may have been, i love it :D

yeah, it works brilliantly for the varied age range they have, one of them even likes a spot of dj-ing on the side  Carlos i think it is, somebody will no doubt correct me though..

I believe if we are being so stereotypically feminine (which, let's face it, in this case is inevitable...I fully support such talk), that it must be broken down:
Paul- freckles
Danny- awsome sideburns
Sam- crazy shirts
Eric- vampire?
Carlos- just plain cool
That's my petty bit for the day; it's the caffine, really.
But I'm also feeling compelled to listen to Interpol at this very moment. "Precipitate" :)

From the official site:
New Album Complete: The guys have finished mixing the new album and are now out of the studio. The album is entitled 'Antics' and will be released in Fall 2004. An exact release date will be announced shortly.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Next Exit
2. Evil
3. NARC
4. Take You On A Cruise
5. Slow Hands
6. Not Even Jail
7. Public Pervert
8. C'mere
9. Length Of Love
10. A Time To Be So Small
Uh... The album title "Antics" is far inferior to "Turn On The Bright Lights" in my opinion. If it's Autumn in the US maybe early next year for the UK? Or maybe they'll go for the same release date. Hopefully. Some of those song titles don't sound that great either.

Glad to see NARC and Length of Love made it on there...was A Time To Be So Small a b-side? I have a really old recording of it somewhere.
The album name may not be as cool, but I'm very interested to hear "Public Pervert."

really wonderful music!!
and who said they're not exciting live? i don't agree, perhaps it's not as exciting (with big lights, big sound and so on) as e.g. a muse show... but i saw them last year and i really enjoyed the gig... it was quite a laid back atmosphere (...but then it was the 3rd day of a festival) ... but really wonderful !!!
can't wait for the new album, i already have heard 3 songs:"evil", "next exit" and "slow hands"... and they're great tracks!!!
"slow hands" is the best of them three i think!!!

I really like it in its entirety. Granted, it took awhile to grow on me (sine last June really). I'm really happy that they've made a clear departure from their old stuff while still maintaining the characteristics that make them so singular. I also like that with songs like "Slow Hands" and "Evil," they're not quite as tight-laced. The songs are bordering on being fun and dancey. So overall I love the album, but I've only realized it fully recently.

It took me seeing them at Curiosa 8 times for their sound to grow on me.
Now I looove them. They are much better live though.
I like Turn on the Bright Lights better than Antics. I do think Antics is a wonderful album as well.
C'mere is my favorite track.

I bought 'antics' recently, i think the second half is so good, but the first half is fairly poor. My mate thinks the complete opposite though. Was wondering what everyone else though of it?
Please use serch before starting a new thead. Thanks

It's taken about 2 weeks but the album has finally grown on me. Public Pervert, A Time To Be So Small and Take You On A Cruise are lovely.
Hmm, I'm still trying to get into it...
I keep on finding myself going back to Turn On The Bright Lights.

Love
This
Band
I just got Antics and oh wow. Only took me a couple of listens to know that it was great.
The band creep me out a bit. Does anyone else get this?
Its strange, the music seems quite scary to me...
That sounds odd. Its hard to explain

I know what you mean, had the same thing. I'm seeing them live Nov. 22nd, I wonder how the new songs will be live, they'll probably get the most feedback on the 'old' material though. It'll be the 4th time I see them live :D

As in their repetitive guitar twangin or just plain boring altogether? (If you get what I mean)
If you're talking repetitive, then yes, I agree. No doubt other Interpolians have admitted that. It's not such a bad thing though. Somehow they've made me love their monotonononousness.

Can't say I like them. I think they have kind of a TRIED british sound to them (aka, they are TRYING to be british, even though they are). Let me give you an example. I am japanese, I live in Japan. It would be like if I followed all the other countless fools of my country who curl up their faces, show a little peace sign and go out of there way to become disgustingly cute (in a bad way in fact). I listened to antics and there where like, three songs that sounded the same. The first track and "Evil" are some of the most disgusting things I have heard.
But before you call me a bigot, hear this. Slow hands and the third track I think (can't put my finger on it right now).

Interpol aren't really British, though. Two of them may have been born in the UK, but the other two were born in America, and the band is based in the US.
I don't think they are even trying to be British. They are just influenced by some British bands.

But definitely buy it, you can get it if you look hard enough, I've seen it in Virgin. You can probably buy it on the internet too and it is so worth it, better than Antics I reckon.

But I always go to local shows...they're fun sometimes but the bands play the same shit and it just gets old..I love the ska though..anywho..I've got everything all set, I'm going to see Interpol March 9th, and it's gonna be great.

I just saw them last night...fucking fantastic show.
My absolute favorite song, out of both albums and all b-sides, is definately "Take You On A Cruise". Without a doubt. *Sigh*
(Specialist and some others come in a close second...)

OMG! I just love this band. Ian Curtis vocals and nice Peter Hook guitars...
Both albums really are growers, but they always turn out to be the best.

Apparently they're going to support Coldplay on a few dates of their forthcoming UK and Eire tour... :'( If only I lived in England... :'(

haha! well frankly I dig them all.. particularly Carlos D...*sighs* he's so mysterious.. but Paul's voice swoons me everytime... :$ they're a great band. Saw them live for the first time last week here in NYC and it was MEGA!! I only recently got into them as well (Sept '04) but immediately fell in love.. TYOAC is spectacular live... and I'm hoping they support Coldplay here in the States.. that would be brill! 2 gigs for the price of one!! Hells ya!

Crap. All the songs sound the same IMO (the singles anyway). Boring. Strokes rip-offs.

They do have a one dimensional sound but I like it.
I didn't like them at all but then I seen them live and was impressed at how smoothly their songs sounded next to each other.
Now I've become quite the fan.
