OLTA was enough progression for me, they ventured too far from their rock-solid origins already. If it were up to me they kept making songs like this, can't get enough of it.
Love the track btw.

Good song but needs more drum and bass.
Boring.
Damn! You beat me to it!
It is so DULL though. It sounds like a poor outtake from their last album.

Yeah, it has kind of a "B-side" feel to it. It's not a bad song by any means, but it's a very generic one.
I recall reading in a recent interview that Interpol planned on going back to the style of Turn On the Bright Lights with this album. But this new song seems to lack that spark of greatness.
Muse are terrible
30-04-2010, 04:35 AM
Hopes aren't high for the new album. I loved TOTBL and was kinda bored by the rest of the albums but that said I don't want another TOTLB. I want them to move in a brave new direction, I wanna put the CD in and listen think "Wow........... is this really INTERPOL?". But Lights suggests to me that wont happen and it'll be exactly like what we've heard before, except perhaps more boring.

It's a shame that Carlos is leaving, but I'm guessing he just wanted a change, so good luck to him.
Any live dates they do this Autumn won't be the same without Mr Dengler for sure.
I'm wondering who will be playing bass on the tour and also who else is joining the band, since they mentioned recruits. They said 'illustrious players' so that is hinting about well known musicians. Interesting.
Well that pretty much makes me less interested in Interpol now. Their new album might still be good (even though Lights is boring as fuck) but anything after that will have something missing unless their replacement can match Carlos in terms of mad skillz.

Agree.
While Carlos' bass sound is a very intricate element of the Interpol sound, he didn't write all his lines and was kind of an ass anyway. I don't think it will be the end of Interpol but they've got to get someone good to replace him.
Either way I was a fan girl during the Bright Lights era so I'd probably think anything they put out now is crap.

I'd love to see them at Brixton! Last time, Scarlett and I saw them at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and then again the next night in London at the Alexandra Palace.
Blackpool was great - our hotel was directly opposite the stage door, so we hung around to meet them afterwards. Everyone else was saying, "Oh, I might need to go so to get my train. Where are you two staying?" And we pointed over our shoulders, "There."

The people joining them on the forthcoming live dates have been revealed.
Hey gang,
We'd like to take a moment to introduce you to our new editions:
Two fresh faces who will be joining us live on our upcoming tours.
On Bass: Dave Pajo
Pajo has a vast body of work. He was the guitarist for Slint. He has recorded as Papa M and Ariel M. And he has worked with Tortoise, Will Oldham, Zwan, and numerous other artists. So, you know....do the math.
On Keys and Vox: Brandon Curtis
Curtis is a member of the Secret Machines. Enough said.
We are very excited and honored to be working with such talented individuals.
Come and see why.

I was told that a leak dropped a few weeks ago but apparently it was in disastrous quality. Has a decent one popped up? Because if not, I'll just wait until the actual release.
OLTA > new album
Really? Ouch. That said, I probably already like "Barricade" more than nearly all of OLTA's tracks.
A 320 one has popped up. Links keep getting blocked though.
And it's miles better than OLTA for me. Feels more like an album and I love its dark/moody nature. It depends on what kind of Interpol you like; from comments I've seen, you'll either love or hate the new album - there's no inbetween really.

Yeah, OLTA is also my least favorite, which is why I was a bit taken aback by LiT's earlier comment. "Pace is the Trick" is, however, the one track that I feel really stands out on an otherwise mundane album. "Rest My Chemistry" isn't bad, either. I could do without everything else. Yeah, I'm one of those oh-so-typical TOTBL fanatics. Big surprise.
I'll scout out a decent leak once I get back from vacation, but I'll keep my expectations reasonable given the mixed reception it's already receiving.

I like that this album has a darker tone like TOTBL, but at some parts, it's more creepy than dark, like the Always Malaise piano. It sounds like it's from a horror movie soundtrack.
I just really can't get into the second half of the album. Everything that made me love Interpol is missing from the last 3 songs. There is basically no bass at all and what the hell is up with the random f-bomb in Try It On? And as for the Spanish in The Undoing...

Band has fallen really far for me. Turn on the Bright Lights was fantastic. Antics was not quite as good but still great and a good follow up. OLTA isnt very good and as of right now Interpol is even worse. Each album has gotten progressively worse...
Again I need to listen again but thats my initial opinion

As usual, give it a chance, it's a grower!
I was kind of sceptical when I first listened to "Lights" and "Barricade" but after listening to the whole album quite a few times, I've felt for it!
Paul's cavernous voice is just killing me and I think there's a good balance between slow and rockier songs.
Now I just can't wait to seeing them Friday in Paris and next Tuesday in Lille! It's been a while since I've last seen them all. It's gonna be weird not seeing Carlos I think...

It's so beautiful and underrated, as is The Lighthouse, they are probably two of my favourite songs of all time. Barricade is awesome as well. Success is cool, Memory Serves is good once you've listened to it a few times. In fact, the only song I can fault is Safe Without, and even then it's only cos it;s a tad boring but the echoy drummy things in it are cool - lots of layers. You hear new stuff when you listen to the songs more

I find it sad to see how panned the record seems to be, it's by far my second favourite Interpol album. Might be my #2 record for 2010 as well. Though the individual songs on there might not be Interpol's best, as an album as a whole it just works so well! It's not immediate, I wasn't that impressed first listen but it's really really grown on me.

I felt a bit sorry for poor David, he seemed a bit separated from the rest of the band off at the right side of the stage. In fact it seemed like it was Interpol at the left side and then the extras at the right.
The setlist surprised me a bit, but they were nice surprises.

Slightly strange ordering but looks like a good setlist. The New in particular is a very impressive surprise.
Can't wait for Friday at Birmingham :awesome:

The sound's not great, my camera struggles a bit for sound quality at the barrier.

They didn't impress me at Voodoo, but I think I was in the wrong environment for them. It was the middle of the day and the hottest it had been all weekend. Not to mention that after an awesome set by Janelle Monae and with Deadmau5 coming up, I was pumped up and ready for something more energetic. And not to mention the crowd around me wasn't moving much and didn't seem to be big fans. Probably would have been better on the non-VIP side.
But anyways, it just seemed boring. Nothing sounded bad, it just wasn't something I really cared to hear live. But factors above probably contributed.
If they come back through Houston, I'd give them another chance.

Really good show last night. The crowd was alright - particulary down the front (although it was a bit meh in the balcony were I was).
We got:

I've just come back from Brixton, and they were bloody great. The new keyboard player (Secret Machines guy?) does some really great backing vocals and the bassist seems to interact really well with Daniel. Sadly my limited view meant that I did not see enough of Daniel's bendy-legged dancing.
The stuff from the new album sounds very good live (even my old nemesis Barricades). We also got a good helping of old stuff, though neither Obsticles IIRC. PDA and Length of Love were particularly good, and Evil got the crowd singing.
I enjoyed it so much that I may see if I can get a ticket for Wednesday.
One thing is for certain though, I never want to hear from Surfer Blood again. Absolute drivel, seeming to cross Vampire Weekend with bits that New Order and Pixies threw away. The singer did bring the lols though when he had extreme trouble climbing back onto the stage after going into the audience.

Yeah Surfer Blood were a bit meh really.
I was just between Daniel and Paul on the barrier for the Nottingham gig. Daniel's dancing was very bendy-legged indeed. I really like Success as an opener. The new songs all fitted into the set very well.
One thing I noticed, Daniel has a ridiculous amount of effects pedals.

I really, really liked the first support, with the bloke on drums, woman on guitar and vocals, and other woman on accordian-thing and percussion. Didn't catch their name, sadly.
Success is indeed a brilliant opener. :yesey:
Hmm, ticketweb still have tickets for Wednesday, and they are the PDF ones you print yourself...

There was only one support at Nottingham, which was Surfer Blood, sadly. Poor after the awesomeness of Ladytron on the last tour.

On this most recent tour, they are coming to Helotes, Texas, but no where around here. Jerks :(

I just found it very echoey. Maybe I was farther back under the balcony, so the sound bounced around a little more. In any case, good show. Though yeah, as much as the Orpheum is a great building, i'd take a lot of other venues over it.
