I'm gonna hold out. I have faith that they'll make the trip across the Tasman again. They kept us waiting for a while in 2007 too, if I remember right.

How have you been anyway, Julie?

_Ed_

And happy birthday to Chloe, even though I already said it on Facebook and you may not see this today. Hope you had an awesome day. :) The weather was pretty nice!

Being basically the only guy in my department at work has its drawbacks!

A couple of my workmates just had a conversation about sperm (as you do) and were commenting on how NZ guys have unusually low sperm counts and they're "bad swimmers", apparently. Now, I may have my headphones on, but I can hear. It's tempting to clear my throat and say "do you mind?"

It often seems like they forget I'm a guy. And I thought I'd made that clear with my performance of Johnny Cash at work karaoke. :(

But then again, I suppose Helen Clark could do a stirring rendition of Ring of Fire too...

Mind you, I'd rather that than our current prime minister, who I can all-too-easily picture giving an unnervingly camp performance of It's a Kind of Magic.

They did keep us waiting, but... There was so much hope - with them telling us to wait... But, i should have more faith - Like YOU!

I'm doing okay, I have a maths test tomorrow - woo! What brought you back to the thread? Did you miss us?! :) lol

Oh no! I believe you're a guy! Hmm... Politicians singing... interesting... I smell fundraiser! Give to stop them singing! How is our Helenn doing at the UN? I haven't heard anything on that front for awhile now..

_Ed_
03-06-2010, 09:09 AM
Keep the faith. :yesey:

Good luck for the test!

I did miss the thread and everyone on it. I've been spending almost every waking minute either at work or working on my dissertation lately. Up to 10,300 words now! Which is more than I need. I'm not used to having that problem.

I haven't heard anything from Helen either...but maybe that's a good sign. It's better if she's quietly getting her job done than producing headlines like "NZ troublemaker disrupts meeting" or "UN sick of Kiwi larrikin's shenanigans"!

You making up for your absence Richard?

Glad to see you're back, now I have someone to reply to.

I saw a wild fox yesterday. Now if I ever see a wild badger I will be content with life. A job would be nice too of course.

i was much excited when i saw your name as the last post on here. i pointed to oren and went "look!" with this face :awesome:

That face requires some contortion and is normally reserved only for such awesomeness as Moa magnums. I'm honoured.

Have you watched the ice skating video? I made everyone at work laugh with it tonight.

I've had to do captions for a couple of episodes. Awful and highly traumatic.

Although there is hope - Heather Mills is on the show and keeps being lifted up by the legs. Her fake leg could potentially part company with the rest of her body, with hilarious results.

How do you give someone a Queen's Birthday greeting?

Saying 'happy Queen's Birthday' makes it sound like you're commenting on the Queen's current mood. Of course she's happy. She's bloody filthy rich and has a public holiday on her (not actual) birthday.

_Ed_
07-06-2010, 12:19 PM
Yeah, that'll do.

It annoys me how the news become obsessed with road toll statistics at long weekends. They only care about the people if they happen to die during some arbitrary time period, and even then, they're really only numbers. Grrrrr. I'm getting all worked up.

the thing i hate most is if there's some big event overseas where lots of people die and it only "hits home" when it's reported that a new zealander died. the whole because you're from a certain country your death means more.

07-06-2010, 12:42 PM
I have to admit the sight on Close Up tonight (only watched it because I had to for work!) of Mark Sainsbury driving a Hummer and bobbing his head to loud rap music was something a bit special.

Less traumatic than the footage of him in a skin-tight wetsuit riding a jetski a few weeks back.

JoBear
07-06-2010, 12:44 PM
what was the reason for the above?

_Ed_
07-06-2010, 12:45 PM
The Hummer incident occurred because there's some auction of luxury cars coming up and they wanted to advertise it on national TV. The next question, of course, is what is a Hummer doing in a luxury car auction? I have no answer.

The horrifying jetski footage came about because some guy is doing some insane journey on a jetski. Australia to NZ or something daft like that.

i'm supposed to be doing a job application that closes at 5pm but i just can't be articulate enough to relate my experience and skills to the job description. wish you could just get a job with minimal effort.

my dad gave me a contact within the big company he works for and he's emailed me saying there's a position that i may be able to do. i know about the position as it's internal only and my dad sent it to me -- but it's just proof about who you know rather than what you know.

_Ed_

_Ed_
07-06-2010, 01:25 PM
Did you know that inspiration is an anagram of both 'pianist iron' and 'raisin in pot'?

So you have two options if you want to try and seek inspiration - you could inflict grievous bodily harm with a hot iron on someone playing a piano, or you could try boiling some raisins.

Worth a shot.

our nearest tube station is one that just has elevators and it's so annoying as it beeps for ages saying "stand clear of the closing doors" in grumpy old english lady voice then some asshole comes along as it's finally closing and makes it open again, starting the long sequence again. it's so annoying. and then when you do get going grumpy english lady tells you off like your grandma "there's no smoking anywhere on the underground" i got it! let out of this station!

You were correct. That is awesome.

_Ed_
09-06-2010, 02:16 AM
Not the best start to the day.

I got on the bus and took my iPod out of my pocket (sadly not connected to my headphones, because I had used it in the car yesterday), and it slipped down into the mysterious void between the seat and the wall of the bus. I couldn't find it, so I thought I would just wait until the bus stopped and everyone else got off, then I could make a bit of a dick of myself with a really thorough search. Well, the driver wasn't going to tolerate that.

There are some really nice bus drivers who would have let me look, but he wasn't one of them.

I also wish to complain about the size of these portable music devices. Why is smallness an asset? Do they advertise them with such attractive lines as "now so small it can slide seamlessly into narrow places into which no human hand can reach" and "you'll break all your fingers trying to retrieve it from where it gets stuck"? BRING BACK THE BRICKS!

I'm highly irritated.

_Ed_
09-06-2010, 04:42 AM
Thanks. :) Yeah, most drivers are nice. It just had to be one of the other ones today.

But it's not that terrible. A lot of people go through much worse! If I end up having to replace the iPod, I'll get a bigger one. :yesey:

Before he was talking about Justin Beiber's hair, getting people's thoughts, and someone texted in saying 'it looks like my hair downstairs' and Drew was all 'I guess it looks like the hair he collects down in his basement? that's pretty weird' He's also wearing a cute tshirt today.

Wtf is up with that Jason Derulo song, 'Riding Solo'? Like seriously, does he have to sing the chorus in that incredibly annoying voice?

Clearly my studying for exams is going well.

It was awkward when Bieber didn't know what German was in that interview. I also saw a video once of him having some issues with a revolving door. A role model for the younger generation.

From the fact that you're watching C4 and posting here, yes, I would agree that your study is going swimmingly!

Well done! That's reasonably epic. Really good effort for one day!

Yeah, they might have a lost and found, but I think it went way down into the narrow gap between the seat and the wall. I don't think it'll ever be found. It's probably now covered in cigarette butts from when it was legal to smoke on buses.

I had to laugh reading the paper this morning.

They had a list of all the MPs' expenses from the last few years - for wine, food, flights, etc (or porn, in Shane Jones' case). Most of their totals were up in the thousands.

But then you've got Helen Clark - $19.95 for a pair of gumboots when she visited a region affected by flooding. Aww, bless her.

E.g, how did Hurley and Ben get on with the island, etc. But otherwise it was ok, the explanation of that other world after they died was a bit simplistic, but I guess that was as far as they were willing to go, lol.

So last night I went out drinking with my sister in Whangarei. It was an experience.

I felt quite out of place wearing a long-sleeved shirt and fancy pants. Most people were in jeans and jandals. And by about 8pm, people were starting to fall over. :erm:

Then a woman started hitting on my sister, and when I responded to her desperate "help!" looks, she gave me the evils for the rest of the night and said we had an "unnatural" relationship.

There are lots of photos of me expressing my alarm, disapproval and disdain for the other patrons. I hope they find their way onto Facebook.

But there was no choice - I had to fix it. The show was Dancing On Ice, so if this convenient technical issue had prevented me from doing the captions for it, it would have led to strong suspicion that I had deliberately sabotaged the tape. It's the show we all hate doing.

I don't think bars should have interesting artwork on the ceiling of the toilets. :noey: When you're standing at a urinal and looking at it, it looks like you're enjoying the experience a bit too much.

My dissertation appears to be...finished. What a weird feeling.

It's going to be so good celebrating on Friday after I hand it in. One of my friends has his last exam on the same day. :)

Yay, congratulations on finishing! :D

Thanks! How have you been?

I have been fine thanks. Been on Tiri following the birds around to see what their eating, nom nom. Then yesterday sitting at home my thigh muscle and knee gradually got really sore. It's not so bad today, so hopefully all it needs is a bit of rest.

How have you been? Enjoying your break or still winding down from finishing?

Sounds good, apart from the injury! Hope it gets better soon.

Yeah I've just been relaxing. Whacking golf balls at the driving range is a good way of unwinding after a stressful few months. I see they're open til midnight, so I might start going there after work some nights too.

Ooh, whacking golf balls does sound like good stress relief. I'll keep that in mind for the months ahead :chuckle:

But anyway, isn't this a cool picture?

I've watched a couple of songs from it, and it looks like they were in good form.

But I was really disappointed when the "very special surprise" was The Edge. Ugh. Have to admit it was a good performance of the song, though.

Good question. I have no idea but I'll assume it would have some trouble seeing in front with those little eyes on the side.

Did you see this weeks episode?? The second to last of this season?

HOLEE WAT

I can't believe what that guy did to Freddie! I mean I know it was right at the very end, so there's a chance that he could still be okay, but DAMN. I did not see that coming. From the promo ad, I thought he was just going to threaten him with the bat, not actually hurt him. And I liked Freddie the best of these two seasons! :( Gotta tune in next week to see what happens!

Speaking of Skins, I thought Kaya who plays Effy was living in the flat beside our old one in North London.

I'm on mobile broadband! Certainly a lot cheaper here than NZ. We're waiting out getting our landline and broadband set up at the new flat -- past experiences say it could be at least a month although they reckon it'll be the 12th.

I loved Freddie too in season 3. But 4th season my loyalty changed to Cook lol. But yes, I watched up to the second to last episode and was so shocked and outraged that I swore I wouldn't watch the last episode. I ended up watching it a week or two later. I was so angry at the writers. lol. I screamed at the screen. I was a little attached... *blushes*

I got pulled over and breath-tested on my way home from work just then. Quite exciting. I wonder what it was about me that they found suspicious? Perhaps it was my questionable music taste. There are some things on my iPod that most people would only feel comfortable listening to whilst drunk.

I should have quit while I was ahead at the driving range today.

I hit 27 of my first 100 balls out past the 100m mark, including my last four in a row. Would have been a nice way to end. Instead, I went back to buy 50 more balls, thinking my roll would continue. I only hit six of those 50 out that far, including none of my last 35. It's dented my confidence. :(

I don't know what caused this mysterious slump. Something went awry with my technique, but I have no idea what.

But a 23-year-old guy going to see Twilight...I'd imagine he wanted it to be a stealth activity. Well, that didn't go entirely to plan. He kicked the bucket, and his story is splashed all over the internet. Embarrassing.
