And if any of you are myspace, there is some nutbar on there with some warped name gaia that is trying to give matt some shit i mean does she have some sort of death wish. And i am planning to walk to woolies now i just hope i dont decide to trip up again otherwise i might sit on the spot and bawl my eyes out lol.

Good luck!

I sang my heart out at Shadows karaoke tonight, and if I may say so myself, my rendition of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance brought the house down. But I came 2nd to a guy who shows up and sings the same songs every week and seems to always win. :indiff:

But I vow to win and use that $100 bar tab for my birthday drinks at the end of May. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

I bought some new headphones today. Using them atm. Pretty good for $15! I really needed new ones because the others were falling apart- they basically had no foam on the earpieces at all. It was just a disaster, really. It was Auckland's wettest December in history, and they made me walk around in the uncovered car parks without a rain coat; the Christmas shoppers were angry when my trolley-returning speed was unable to match the speed with which people were taking trolleys; the mall staff yelled at me for trying to use the lifts instead of wrestling the huge rows of trolleys onto the travellators; they confiscated my cellphone...

And then after all that, they promised to give me a good reference if I ever needed one, but had no memory of me whatsoever when I took them up on that promise.

I'm watching a documentary on Alexander the Great's battle at Gaugamela against the Persians, and I had to laugh a bit at the commentary. They were talking about Alexander's win, and it was like "the Greeks estimated the enemy's loses at 200,000, but it will forever be unclear how many of the losers were killed". Sounds a bit harsh at first!

You might need to check into some of that. I am hearing yes on the news i also listen to the news :p. That planes are being cancelled flying to europe and from europe because of the sulphur ash that is coming from the volcano in iceland. And Muse are due to fly back to there i would hope thats not gunna hold things up for them because that means we will be held up with them comming here. Lets hope that metallica can hold things over whose gunna go see them i am going to with mom lol, I hope i can get her the tickets for her 50th

Now i notice this planet is experiencing a lot of earthquake this is gunna sound weird but i am wondering if its not connected with the volcano in iceland as its actively eurupting. Yes its on the other side of the globe but you would have to wonder with the way the plates would all move wether connected or interconnected in some way.

the pilot glided the plane low enough down that it was out of the ash (due to problems with the oxygen masks) that the engines started again. the windscreen was sandblasted from the ash it made it very hard to land. it also created a sort of st elmo's fire effect on the plane, would've been pretty scary being told the engines have failed and seeing the plane glowing out the window.

shouldn't reread stuff when i'm flying in just over a week...hopefully this whole interrruption/eruption thing is sorted by then.

have you spoken to them about it?

don't know if it's illegal unless you have specified hours listed in your contract? do you even have a contract? that's where people can run into issues.

Turns out that thing today was a bomb scare at the Queen/Victoria St ANZ. If it had actually been a bomb, it wouldn't have ended so well for those people eagerly watching outside...

I have spoken to them about it but they are just saying we dont have enough work to go around for all and i am like well if thats the case then why hire more staff??

And upon that i am gunna look see if i can find my contract and see what that saids for itself

JoBear

the contract is definitely the first thing you need to fall back on as that's a legal document and if they breach that you have a case for a dispute.

i think the way to do it is speak to your employer, if that doesn't work, speak to the department of labour on 0800 20 90 20. they'll give the best advice. but you're looking at having to go through mediation and the employment relations authority if there a case. i'm no expert on employment law though.

I know its looking that way. I am not happy about it i am still go ahead to leave the place i am not putting up with the same thing happening to me twice. I am now not too sure i will look for it that they did actually give me a contract when i went back to work there now when i think about it.

Upside: I am going to be paid for taking surveys :) not much but meh its better than nothing and have nothing to loose and also I will be taking part in a company that has this handheld device where you scan barcodes so i will keep you posted as to how that all works.

Woah that's pretty scary.

the pilot glided the plane low enough down that it was out of the ash (due to problems with the oxygen masks) that the engines started again. the windscreen was sandblasted from the ash it made it very hard to land. it also created a sort of st elmo's fire effect on the plane, would've been pretty scary being told the engines have failed and seeing the plane glowing out the window.

shouldn't reread stuff when i'm flying in just over a week...hopefully this whole interrruption/eruption thing is sorted by then.

Good thing they got out of it okay. Yeah that would have been quite the freaky experience!

That's always the way, amirite? Its like when you're sick and you can't help but read all sorts of self-diagnosises online

JoBear

i think watching it has made me feel really safe about flying at least. when i first started at my work i got so paranoid about car accidents because i was seeing 10 a day sort of thing and people just doing such stupid things.

i remember when we were flying back from italy and i was looking out the window, which wasn't much to see as it was dark, and suddenly there was big bright flash from the wing light (not the normal flash it does) and a fighter jet flew past really close. i turned to my sister and said "there's a fighter jet" which resulted in us talking for 20 minutes about air crash investigation episodes while this passenger beside her stared at us in horror.

I prefer flying to being in a car. There's less that can go wrong because of all the safety things, and I feel less sick.

Fuck, what an exhausting day. I went to the races and stayed there until about 5, which was awesome, but then I went to uni and did what I should have spent all day doing in about three hours. I was so looking forward to just coming home and lying on the couch in front of the TV, but then I got a text - "dinner, drinks and karaoke tonight. You should come!"

So tired now.

Wow that's really cool! It's always fun finding out about loads of relatives you didn't know you had!

In relation to the bomb threat, I was at my friend's apartment on Queen St and we heard a load of commotion and squealing that went on for some time, but didn't know what it was. Might have been that.

Went to the Massey uni bar on Friday to see my friend's band, and while we were there the DJ played KoC twice in the space of an hour. :D:D Thought of you Rich!! :)

Hope so! The mind boggles over what it might have been otherwise. :erm:

Speaking of squealing and commotion, the people in the neighbouring karaoke booth seemed to be farting into their microphones. Some people. :noey: But I drowned it out with Plug In Baby and Showbiz, and did by darnedest to hit the high notes in both. I might sound like that "What a Wonderful World" guy tomorrow.

But I couldn't share my Lady Gaga rendition with my friends. :( I probably would have struggled anyway because I was sober this time!

KoC twice in an hour is amazing! But is it almost too much? Maybe three times is the cusp.

Although I have been known to listen to it four times in a row, so... :$

See, I'm not sure if the standing ovation was saluting the awesomeness or the awfulness of my performance. I think I was wearing a Muse t-shirt...is that suitable attire for Lady Gaga singing? I'm no judge of these things. But I think a Muse t-shirt is pretty fucking awesome for any occasion really.

Yeah I can imagine that being freaky. Are you still working similar hours to the ones you had at North Shore? That would mean some really unfairly early wake-up times.

I'm not bad thanks. Same old, really.

I'm splitting shifts between the Shore and Waitaks so it's not too bad, and with the school holidays I've only been having to get up 15 minutes earlier. Not sure how the traffic will be when they go back though.

I think your Lady Gaga outfit sounds far too tame, unless of course you weren't wearing pants, which Lady Gags doesn't seem to require.

"Forbes magazine has released its annual ranking of fiction's richest people, which this year includes six new characters.
The 2010 Fictional 15 is led by Carlisle Cullen, the patriarch of Twilight's coven of vampires, who has accumulated a personal fortune of $47.9 billion during his 370-year lifetime.
Cullen's fortune stems largely from long-term investments planned with the help of his adopted daughter, Alice, who is able to give excellent stock advice because of her ability to see into the future.
A first-time entry onto the list, Cullen poses as a small-town doctor in the US state of Washington."

Wat.
How could they even know what investments he would make, anyway?

I saw that in the news this morning too! How they actually estimate how much all these characters make is mind boggling. Mr Burns from The Simpsons was estimated to have 1.3 billion, I guess he has come back up after temporaily getting kicked out of the billionares club :chuckle:

My trip to Tiritiri on Friday was fun, so many bellbirds at the feeders

That is a concern with the back log being up to 2 weeks and the unknown of how long the ash will last (plus the chance of it's bigger neighbour going off :stunned:). Here's hoping it'll be cleared up by then for you to go! But then it might be better to delay (if you can) until things get sorted out over in the UK.

Oh, and just looked at the Slendour In The Grass line up :stunned: I totally agree with you Rich, I hope we get an influx of those bands over here or I would be very tempted to go!

Can't delay anything, too much booked for hotel in london and other trips to paris and berlin...travel insurance won't pay for it unless flights are actually delayed by ash.

There will some gutted people who didn't buy insurance before the event, as if the ash affected their plans they can't claim as it wasn't unforeseen to them when they got the insurance.

I just watched that 'America's Most Hated Family' documentary. It's the third time I've seen it. I really admire Louis Theroux's ability to keep his cool. He has the best poker face I've ever seen. That family is really fucked up though. Its weird because the documentary makes you feel really enraged, but also kind of sad for the younger people in the church. Especially one girl who acts like she doesn't care or anything, but then says things like 'who would want to marry me anyway?'. Its really odd.

My mum was just telling me this epic tale of her trying to get into the house this afternoon when she locked herself out. She had to go through all this trouble to get in through the window. After she finished telling me, I was like 'that's amazing, but you know that the neighbours have a key.'
Her face was like ':stunned:.... they weren't home :indiff:'

They're twins from a parallel universe where Dom wears only black jeans, Chris is Thom Yorke, and Matt is attractive.

I remember seeing that sentence often in puzzle/mindbenders/joke books! I haven't looked at the actual solution/s for ages! It makes a lot more sense now

This one is hilarious.

The phrase is "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo."
"Thus, the sentence when parsed reads as a description of the pecking order in the social hierarchy of buffaloes living in Buffalo:

- [Those] (Buffalo buffalo) [whom] (Buffalo buffalo) buffalo, buffalo (Buffalo buffalo).
- [Those] buffalo(es) from Buffalo [that are intimidated by] buffalo(es) from Buffalo intimidate buffalo(es) from Buffalo.
- Bison from Buffalo, New York, who are intimidated by other bison in their community also happen to intimidate other bison in their community.(this one is my favourite explanation  )
- THE buffalo FROM Buffalo WHO ARE buffaloed BY buffalo FROM Buffalo ALSO buffalo THE buffalo FROM Buffalo.

I still don't get it though. It says that:

The sentence is unpunctuated and uses three different readings of the word "buffalo". In order of their first use, these are

* a. the city of Buffalo, New York , which is used as a noun adjunct in the sentence and is followed by the animal;
* n. the noun buffalo, an animal, in the plural (equivalent to "buffaloes" or "buffalos"), in order to avoid articles;
* v. the verb "buffalo" meaning to bully, confuse, deceive, or intimidate.

Marking each "buffalo" with its use as shown above gives you:

Buffalo(a) buffalo(n) Buffalo(a) buffalo(n) buffalo(v) buffalo(v) Buffalo(a) buffalo(n).

Doesn't that then read "City bison City bison bully bully City bison"? :erm:
Shouldn't it instead go: A-N-V-C-N-V-C-N or something? Making it 'City bison bully City bison bully City bison'?

I think it means "the city bison, who city bison bully, bully city bison."

But then there should be a 'who' in there somewhere, right? How does it work with only using the word buffalo?

if there was a planet parallel to earth i am telling you i sure as hell wouldnt be wasting my time here when there could be much cooler more advanced planets out there ok they may not excactly be the best looking bunch but hey they would make up for it with the spaceships and the technology right???

I like all those wiki posts about buffalos and what not...

You know i never understood how something like a buffalo can make a stringy stretchy mozzarella cheese???(just a random statement) but i have wondered considering how they are tough and wallow around the water and in africa croc fodder when they cross the same stretch of water which they know some croc is sitting in there waiting to get em you would think they might find another way around the river by now??

I don't think it's necessary. Think of another one, like, "politicians people don't like".

I think it works the same way? I'm not sure, though. I'm tired and my brain is fried.

That's true. I dunno, it buzzes me out

Maybe that buffalo isn't conforming? He's wearing a suit- I'd say that's pretty nonconformist compared to all the other buffalo.
