So. I like muse. A lot. But i'm getting tired of telling people that i just like muse. Other bands have just become boring. Are there any other over the top, epic space rock bands? or symphonic bands (not metal). Probably not, but let me know if you guys have any suggestions. (preferably not mainstream)

A great space rock band is Pink Floyd. They are also prog rock. Considerably older band but still amazing and very ahead of their time. Just start with Dark Side Of The Moon and go from there.
However, there aren't very over the top but the music is very out there and spacey as well as incredible.

Ive always thought Angels & Airwaves as sounding very spacey and ethereal in a lot of their songs. You just have to get past Tom Delonge's ear-splitting voice. Other than that its kinda pleasant actually.

explosions in the sky has a really atmospheric ethereal sound..

Yeah Pink Floyd is most likely your best bet. They're who I started listening to after getting into Muse. You could maybe try Dire Straits too..
It's quite difficult suggesting 'epic space rock bands' as well..bands that even come close to that are older, progressive bands.
Edit: And if you wanna go down the Explosions In The Sky route you could try checking out Sigur Rós and Múm.

I was going to say something similar. Also some of Brian Eno's ambient work and especially German ambient act Tangerine Dream. Of course as previously stated they are older.

"we are from texas, and they call us explosions in the sky"
lol, seriously though, they make the most beautiful music around, all instrumental ,so you dont have any gay vocals to ruin it. i seen them live in perth and WOW

They make the most boring and stale music around. It's just ambient guitars, nothing special.
I like Explosions In The Sky. They're not the band that Pitchfork hail to be one of the best ever, but they're good.
Pink Floyd is a given (although not all of their discography is space rock-like...I think The Wall onwards takes a different direction entirely). Secret Machines might be worth a bit of your time as well. I recommend looking into their debut, Now Here Is Nowhere.

The new Infadels songs will be pretty 'space' as well. Can't wait for their third album.

lmao, what an arrogant piece of shit you must be..the most boring and stale ?? come on.. you must be having your period or your boyfriend must have your handbag to make such stupid remarks. Just cause EITS dont make the music you like to suck dick too ,dont mean you have to hate on them.
pisses me off when people diss talented musicians and one of the most down to earth bands out there..have you honestly heard all their albums ?? bet not...

Yes, in fact I still got them on my Ipod, no idea why, they're only a nuisance because now I need to skip them whenever they come up.
Just like you got trash metal, so does this fake band produce trash ambient. Pure rubbish. But then again, what can you expect from that shithole called Texas?

You might consider another oldie but goody: King Crimson. Some of the music is spacey, but mostly it's just music that you just kind of get lost in.
I see you mentioned epic. Well, to me that's different than spacey. Oceansize is eargasmic and epic, I think. And I don't just toss the word eargasmic around loosely. They're another band that just makes me zone out in its epicness.

Explosions in the Sky are just Mogwai for dummies. They bring nothing new to post-rock.
I don't see what Muse have to do with space rock. It is an actual genre of music, not just "rock music with lyrics about space", and it has a defined sound that Muse's music very rarely fits in with. King Crimson are also definitely not a space rock band. They are one of the best bands ever, though.
A few good ones:
A. R. & Machines, Hawkwind, Acid Mothers Temple, Gong, Ash Ra Tempel, Guru Guru, Brainticket, Causa Sui, Eternal Tapestry, Magic Lantern, Flying Saucer Attack, Spacemen 3, F/i, Les Rallizes Dénudés, Farflung, Jackie-O Motherfucker, Silvester Anfang, Fushitsusha, High Rise and Kousokuya.
I'll also second Tangerine Dream, although most of their music doesn't have much to do with rock.
Electric Light Orchestra - one of the most underrated bands ever.
& David Bowie, Spiritualized, Tool, The Flaming Lips...?
Good call on Monster Magnet.

You could say that about most 'space-rock' bands though, but yeah, Muse do only have the odd few space-rock songs, mainly the ones where the synth comes into play.

I swear none of those on the first page are space rock.
Isn't that what Hidria Spacefolk and Ozric Tentacles is?
Also how the bloody hell are Monster Magnet space rock

Early Monster Magnet is definitely at least stoner rock.

Yeah, I've never been able to get into them (Explosions in the Sky).
The only Mogwai album I've enjoyed as well was Happy Song for Happy People. I found Rock Action to be pretty underwhelming, but what can you do.

It's stoner space rock! It's about being stoned in space or simply space out on a stone!

Wow. Grow up and learn to accept what people think. Not everyone is gonna have the same opinion as you. The world doesn't revolve around you so just please grow up.

So many bands I haven't heard of that I now want to check out! Thanks everyone:)
Like I said in an earlier post Tangerine Dream are excellent but I can see where Public Image is coming from...there's not much "rock" to them, they're mainly ambient. Interestingly though, they were often lumped into the "Krautrock" sub genre...

At the risk of derailing the thread...
The pre-Phaedra records like Alpha Centauri, Atem and Electronic Meditation are quite loud and rock-ish. Most people know them for the sequencer-driven works, though. Nevertheless, even if they are not exactly rock music, they are still spacier than almost all other music.
Another thing about the early albums is that some of the collaborators were major figures in the Krautrock movement. The first album was recorded by a trio of Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze (drummer for Ash Ra Tempel, and an important solo artist) and Conrad Schnitzler (co-founder of Kluster--who later become Cluster--and another important solo artist). Florian Fricke from Popol Vuh is also a collaborator on Zeit.
Perhaps most importantly, they were signed to Ohr Records, which was THE Krautrock label before Brain Records was founded. I think anybody related to that label can be considered a Krautrock musician.
/knows too much about Krautrock.

Yeah I don't have EM but I've heard it's very rockish. I have the next two and I agree with what you say. Generally speaking and looking at the whole career of TD, they are more ambient than rock. I really love the Zeit album.
