he's so amazing live! I saw him last year at manchester uni... and he switched all the lights off, turned off his mic and played hallelujah stood right infront of the audience! I saw him again on Valentines day, but the audience were so rude.. they kept talking and he didnt tell as many stories! The atmosphere was good, but it didnt have the same magic that was there at Glasto and in October.

Anyone heard this guy's album?

My opinion on listening to the first 30 minutes or so of the album, boring. It didn't go anywhere. Just a pointless drone of a sound with no highs and only lows. I didn't feel it necessary to listen to the rest of the album.

trinitron
11-03-2004, 05:10 AM
i felt the same way. a shame too, because i didn't hate the overall sound. though i didn't like how he made all the typical singer sounds, you know those annoying un-pitched sounds to let everyone know how great you think you are.....or something...like when people grunt on their releases-uh......i hate that.....

yeah I'd say hallelujah is one of his best live songs even though it's a cover. I was meant to see him again in feb but I couldn't but I'm glad because the crowd were really rude then too and some of the stories were f*ckin' shocking! I think now that he's becoming more popular the crowds are beginning to vary alot more and younger people are going to the gigs and just being complete nobs because they don't know what an intimate gig should be like....saps!...anyway that's just my opinion lol

He seems more suited to the smaller more intimate venues... Wasn't that the reason he quit Juniper, because they were getting too popular? I was pretty gutted about the tossers who kept yelling stuff in feb... It wasn't too bad in October, because the heckles were funny and he had an amazing rapport with the audience that night. Ah well. He can come and play my village hall any time!

I think he used to be in a band called Juniper with some of the members of the band who are now Bell X1.

He has a credit on 'Tongue' on the Bell X1 album which i might add is one of the best albums i've heard this year.

Not meaning to be cocky or anytin but id heard of him when I got one of Junipers album of my sister (the members of who are now Bell X1). Not as good definitely. I then got "0" around Mid 2002 and was blown away. Volcano, Blowers Daughter and Cannonball are the best i think :)

OoOoOoOoO is such a little gem. It's so raw and passionate. I'm currently in love with 'I Remember'. It starts like a lullaby - then Damien crashes in and tears the place up with such fierce vocals.

I went through a period of addiction to the O album and I made sure everyone knew it! The songs are ever so emotive. When I listen to particular songs like volcano, hallelujah I just get so woo incredible. The song that really really does it for me though has to be I remember. Its like two different songs in one. it starts all soft and gentle with the lady's beautiful voice expressing her sadness and then BANG out of nowhere there seems to be an eruption of noise but its definitely a good noise. Its in this song that I really appreciate his voice. Hearing his words and the way he sings it allows you to imagine the story hes telling. Just perfect, nothing else for it. I love it and always will because its a little perfect masterpiece. Just a shame that so many people find it dull when really its not.

Just stolen it off a flatmate. Sounds good so far. He's used a lot of stuff that's been knocking around since like 2003/4 such as Me, My Yoke and I... and 9 Crimes. Sounds a bit more polished than his last album.

I can't believe he's big enough for a two night run at the Apollo now though. I don't think he's suited to big gigs.

I went to see him in Wolverhampton on thurs, I wasn't a massive fan of his before but he was really good live. He also came and stood next to me while the support act was on and no one else noticed it was him! I was too scared to speak to him though.
