Right now I'd say it is (in no particular order)
Mclusky
Belle & Sebastian
Basement Jaxx
M.I.A (As in the woman, not the band)
Interpol
The Futurehead
The Libertines
Morrissey
Dusty Springfield
The Ordinary Boys
Some of them aren't bands per se.
Oh, and that'll change within an hour, I'm sure.

M.I.A (As in the woman, not the band)
And we have to highlight that it's not the German band either.

I meant the German band.. I remember confusion about it before, when you posted in a thread that I made about (my) M.I.A

You mean the band from Berlin? With Mieze? The Hungriges Herz one? The band I've seen two weeks ago, the band that kicked ass, that rocked the crowd? ^__^ OMG!

Hehe, yes indeed! How comes you know them? o_O Sorry, I'm tired, confused, have too many things on my mind and probably get everything wrong what people tell me! v_v

Haha, I don't know them. All I know about them is that they're German, and that's because you told me...
I know about the other M.I.A cos she's local. But she's getting radioplay, she's signed to Showbiz and other such stuff. She's done good.

Weezer because I like their style and Rivers is using that 'so uncool that he's cool' to his advantage, which is quite funny. I've liked this band for too long not to put them up.
Cake I find their stuff easy to listen to and relaxing and funny for the times when you need/want it.
The Cooper Temple Clause I've only REALLY discovered this band in the past 10 months (although I knew them much before, but remotely) and I think that their stuff is good, original and creative. A bit different.
Muse Cliche or not. I like this band alot, and although it's easily been 4 months since my last listen, I can say they rank high in my musical taste.
Jeff Buckley I haven't listened to 'Grace' in ages, but remember it as a brilliant album, and one I can listen to at all times. He still ranks high, but him, along with muse, would probably be the ones I keep in there even if they've not been in my stereo in a while.
The Mars Volta Their music is different, and refreshing. 'De-loused...' is a great album, and I feel that this band can only get better. Good stuff to listen to, when you're in the 'blow my mind' mood.
Biffy Clyro They are just a superb band. I love them. What can I say? Grunge-ish? Yes. But so. Can't help loving these guys. Great albums.
The Libertines Our generations best punk band, in my opinion. Great stuff, even if Pete keeps leaving them. I cannot say one bad thing about THE MUSIC from this band...
Zero 7 Relaxing. Interesting. I want more and more as the days go by.
Now, this is were it got really hard. I'm left with three bands - Radiohead, Portishead and Phantom Planet. I'm also left with four artists - Ryan Adams, PJ Harvey, Björk and Damien Rice. Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Morrissey, The Smiths and others spring to mind but I have to pick...
Aqualung I love this band so much, and so many songs that I can relate to are spread out onto only two albums...
I need a 25 list.

Do look into TCTC. Libertines and Zero 7 are both brilliant and I'm sure alot of people like them too. *nods* I really wanted to do a top 20, but I didn't want to go over the top... :$
So I couldn't really put in Smashing Pumpkins or Radiohead sadly, but still... I'm happy with the ten.

You can't even wiggle out a top 10?! These last few years have been wonderful for music, in my opinion, and I know alot of people disagree, but people are finally on their feet and making creative music for a change and it's not the revolutionising stuff like in the 60s but it's still a good decade in music... and for those to be four out of five bands that you like the most, means that you are certainly not looking far for music.
There is a resemblance in all those bands, and I don't even have to mention the one that sucks the most. I also don't like Metallica purely for giving us over ten years of utter shite music, but still, i'm not going to flame your opinions, and you're entitled to them and all - but music is only shite, if your narrowminded and don't look for better...

List two
I've decided that I need to re-do my list as it has changed over the last day or so... so, here is it
Weezer yep, still there
Aqualung recently found at the bottom, but this list isn't in any order - i'm just sure about them this time
The Cooper Temple Clause yes, still there
Idlewild (yep - muse are of the list. :indiffere . They're still very high in my books, though. *nods*) Idlewild are just a great punkish-indie band
Jeff Buckley I just listened to 'Grace' again...so he's not going anywhere.
Ryan Adams Relaxing. Interesting. I want more and more as the days go by. Just like what I said about Zero 7... but Zero 7 - you have to be in the mood for.
Portishead Well done... they made it.
I need a 100 list.
Idlewild (yep - muse are of the list. :indiffere . They're still very high in my books, though. *nods*) Idlewild are just a great punkish-indie band
So I'm not the only fan. I only have The Remote Part, but I think Idlewild are a great band. I never hear anyone say they like them though.
I wouldn't take Muse off my list for them though, but of course it's your choice
I was suprised to not see Ash on your list
And I can't be arsed with the list...

Oki dokie
Outkast- Huge fan of these guys i have all of their albums, unique diverse meaningful lyracists. Always donig new things
Muse- Obv, but they are again a band who have a unique edge.
Placebo: Great band IMO, painful lyrics and some really nice guitar work. not to mention vulgarity
The roots: Philadelphia based hip hop "Band" dropped some real top albums in the past, black thought their main rapper/ m.c is top draw also
RATM: IS there anything morello can't do?
Goodie mob: Linked closely with outkast, atleast at the begging of their tenure they dropped some amazing conscious lyrical jems. But sales faltered with lack of mainstreem appeal
weezer: Rivers cuomo writes some amaing melodies. i Like to think i indulge in every side of music. Riff writing (rage) melody(weezer) mixtures (placebo, muse) and rapping (rage, outkast etc)
mars volta: at htis stage my list is a little let populated with albums, obviously they are quite new to the scene and very experiemental, cedric zavala is a genious with melodies and "singing", not to mention omar rodiguez lopez with his delayed guitars. i am a big at the drive in fan too and they have a lot going for them, sometimes too indulgiant though
Sage Francis: little known southern white rapper with a damaged soul, amazing lyracist over basic-ish beats, very introverted, very good.
hentai: a local band around my area, very unique, i have never heard anything like them, i am also really close mates with the whole band which gives me and insider privaledge but non the less it doesnt stop me from being judgemental in my approach. They are a truly great band and one for the future.

Muse
Chilli Peppers
Placebo
Marylin Manson
Coldplay
I guess those are kinda clichéed though, not that I really care...
Can't think of ay others really, but I quite like some songs by Rammstein and James Brown
And for some bizarre reason I also kinda like 80's pop like Video Killed the Radio Star and Neunundneuzig Luftballoons...thanks Vice City...
And...another and... also various bits of musioc by John Williams and some classical stuff and then just random love type songs like Youngs Hearts run free and can;'t take my eyes offf of you....
And! various samba and mambo music....I pray to [deity] that's all...

What's your fave album?

25-07-2004, 05:21 PM
So I'm not the only fan. I only have The Remote Part, but I think Idlewild are a great band. I never hear anyone say they like them though.
I wouldn't take Muse off my list for them though, but of course it's your choice
I was suprised to not see Ash on your list
And I can't be arsed with the list...
Really... yeah ash were very near getting on the list - you know - me being their biggest fan, and everything
Muse aren't off the list because of Idlewild, they're off the list because I've gone 4 months without having to listen to them which is not a good sign. I love them so much, but lately i've been experimenting much more and they just don't come up on top.

For someone who I started off arguing with your list is probably the best and most creative. Don't know 'hetntai'.

the beings - melbourne band with that captivate me each time i see them, who have a live show that is destined to be playing to packed houses one day
at the drive in - sparta and mars volta are both good..but fuck me ..
relationship of command is easily in my top 3 albums of all time
dandy warhols - monkeyhouse isnt a patch on 13 tales but after witnessing a 3 hour show at the forum ill love them forever
lamb - perfect chillout music and they take it too a whole new level live
ratm - my biggest regret never getting to see them live
deftones - they suck live but white pony is the best metal album ive ever heard (yes tool are good too)
nerd - party music, party tunes
supergrass - the ability to evolve their style through fads and still end up on top is incredible, they were their for brit prop, and are still kicking it with this new rock thing
sigur ros - some music can just take you to different places
flaming lips - do you realize?
nelly furtado - so underated because of one cheesy single.. tracks 3 and 4 off her latest album are fucking fantastic
the grand silent system - melbourne 6 piece powerhouse, tool with flutes is the best and worst explaniation i can giver but live you literally feel their music
shihad - hard rocking kiwi/aussies and still one of the best gigs of my life
oasis - hype aside they are what the are for a reason

Top 10 bands/artists of all time (objectively but in no particular order):
Led Zep
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
The Doors
David Bowie
Eminem
Queen
Radiohead
U2
Nirvana
Personal top 10:
1: Radiohead- An incredibly diverse and intelligent band, consistently producing outstanding music. Also emotionally powerful enough to really touch me at times. IMO the best band I've ever heard.
2: Muse. They got me into music, they got me into going to live gigs, and I like or love every single song they have written. (although note that I HATE ''Can't take my eyes off of you'' :P )
3: David Bowie: I grew up hearing my Dad and Uncle playing his CD's and learning to play his songs on guitar. On getting into music I learnt to appreciate what an incredible artist he is.
The rest of my top 10 are in no particular order
Nirvana: They have a lot of power in their songs, and I find them very enjoyable to listen to.
Greenday: Didn't quite get me into music, but they were the first band I ever really liked.
Pink Floyd: I've barely heard a 1/4 of their stuff, yet they seem absolutely amazing. Wish You Were Here is probably one of the greatest songs ever written.
Metallica: yeah yeah flame away :P They're overrated. They have NEVER produced a good album. In recent times they haven't even produced good songs. But when at their best they have produced songs that I really like.
Rage against the Machine: I'm only just getting into them, but I like what I hear a LOT. Looking forward to exploring their albums.
Faith No More: Wierd combination of metal with piano (but normally not at the same time). An amazing singer however. Wish they were still around...
Eminem: His intelligence and irony has won me over to listen to him. He produces some dire stuff, but also some of the most moving and intelligent music I've yet heard.
Honourable mentions to newer bands: Echelon and the Zutons look promising. Good luck guys.

I'm afraid Muse have been deposed at the top of my list, and are now floundering somewhere around third or fourth.....this isn't in exact preference order, but the priority is roughly right. Apologies for being so commercial, but much as I like less radio-friendly bands (e.g. Cornershop, The Bees, Belle & Sebastian etc.), they don't make it into my top 10. It's a pretty eclectic mix anyway - I only left out FatBoy Slim because he's not technically a band (although you could say the same about the GLC....).

Hmmm...let's see

2 Mando Diao
3 Queens of the Stone Age
4 Nirvana
5 The Hives
6 Bad Religion
7 The Chemical Brothers (not a band, I know)

It'll probably be hard to put these in a particular order, but I'll go for it anyway:
1) Muse
2) Barenaked Ladies
3) The Killers
4) Guster
5) Queen
6) The Beatles
7) Wilco
8) Phish
9) Yes
10) Tie between The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Jeff Buckley
