View Full Version : Lostprophets
Just downloaded their new album - bloody glad I did (rather than buy it)
What a load of un-original pile of arse. There are a couple of decent tracks on it but on the whole I would rather listen to the sound of my shite splashing into the toilet (quite a theraputic plop noise)

Their new stuff is shit. Fake sound of Progress was an awesome album, even if it got a little samey after a while it is a million times better than their new stuff, Burn Burn is soooooo annoying >_<
Best songs are Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja, Fake sound of Progress, and She Told me to Leave.

isn't it time that this thread got a bit more attention, Lost Prophets are an awsome band and their latest album was poor at first but it needs a second shot, give it that second shot and its Realllly good!

Glad that lostprophets are finally getting the kind of response they deserve. They are a fucking awesome band. They could have been like any other band and made another album on the lines as Fake Sound....Start Something has mixed songs....'heavier' bits and more 'poppy' bits. It's all good. I fell in love with the beach pop sound of 'Last Summer'...i know i can listen to it in years to come and still love it...!!

i think theyre cool, i liked em on the basis of start something and wasnt so keen on fsop at first, its not eas easy to get into, and lets face it start somethin is heavily commerical, but i appreciate the fact itd be shit if they kept the same style, it could be extremely tedious, as with anything, i like both albums, fsop is raw as hell, but start something has much more versatility, cool stuff
im listenin to for sure now, love the intro <3

Anyone heard the new song? What a pile of crap. It's just in the middle really. Not overly good, but then I keep listening to it.
The lyrics are so cringeworthly coming from them. What happened to the interesting guitar work? It's just chords now.

The new song gets stuck in your head SO BAD. I definitely prefer their older stuff, though.
Gawd, I used to like the 'prophets so much about 3 years ago, and now I might be going to see them on 10th july. Weird, weird, weird.

Just downloaded the new album, and it looks like they've been buying Telecasters. I'm not really sure on this.
I read an interview with Ian a while ago, and he was saying "oh we've recorded all the hits, and it's gonna be massive". I get the feeling this has been watered down for a very specific reason. It sounds like any of these songs could be a single, and sounds like most 'indie' bands. It's very accessible, and the lyrics are really bad, even worse than before.
Hmmm. I'll give it a few days.

I love Lostprophets, though I haven't heard the new album yet, only the new single.. 'rooftops', I think it's called.. nice song, though it's gotten kind of annoying..
Start Something is one my favourite albums  .. I don't have The Fake Sound of Progress, but I do know a bunch of the songs and I like most of those (especially Shinobi and Kobrakai :D )

I read an interview with Ian a while ago, and he was saying "oh we've recorded all the hits, and it's gonna be massive".
Can't remember him saying that. If anything, after all the "Ian Watkins is arrogant" stuff that happened around Start Something, he said he was never going to "build up" the new album.
What he did say, though, was that this album was less "heavier" than the last two. They'd dropped the crunchier riffs and tried to add a tad more melody to the proceedings.
christoph

He said it in a video interview. The album isn't heavy at all, and some of the lyrics and themes for the songs are truly awful.

The new CD is very... pleasing on the ears. Quite easy to listen to. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not, but I quite like it at the moment.
Seeing them in brighton in 3 weeks-ish
Awwww, man, I don't care what anyone says, the Prophets make me happy. The new stuff may not be as heavy or as raw and angry, but it's great to bop around to. I reckon the new album will be a great fun summer album for having Barbeques to and dancing to on warm summer nights after a few drinks. <3
And Ian Watkins is still one seriously pretty man. I love him. I kid myself that he loves me too. :$

FSOP was a really great album, what the fuck happened lol?!
The new single and vid is awful, talking about selling out.
What's wrong with trying to make music which will appeal to more people though? At the end of the day, they're trying to appeal to the biggest fan base they can. All this talk of selling out pisses me off, as regards EVERY band, whether metal, indie, pop, hell, even classical artists (like someone I know was slagging Maksim for 'selling out' cos he's a good looking guy and he plays piano that appeals to people). Cos God forbid that bands want to make music that might be popular with the most people. At the end of the day, I very much suspect that if you were in a band who hit the big time, you'd do the same thing. *shrugs*
*edits* At the end of the day, I respect that you don't like the new stuff. That's fair, it's all personal opinion when it comes to music, but using the phrase 'selling out' really gets to me.
christoph

It is a personal opinion, but each album has represented what the current trend of music was at the time. They change with every album, but sound like almost everything that is popular at the time.
The new album is really dissapointing, and I only find myself listening to a few songs. Ian's voice has that horrible clicking thing again, which really annoys me. Ugh.

How is it narrow minded? It seems like a total sell out, the lyrics are meaningless and having all the angsty school kids in the video just seems like they are trying to cash in on that market. Maybe their other stuff will be ok but I don't like it at all...that's my opinion.

Oh my god, they've actually written a tune which will appeal to people who like a song without emotional baggage, angsty school kids, and WORST OF ALL... the mainstream. *gasp*

Yes, really. This is the exact point. When people completely change their sound (the entire album), then people start to think ulterior motives. When the band completely change their sound to one that is the most popular at the time, then how can you not expect people to question it? People will always question things like this, it's only natural.
We don't know their true intentions, but I am very skeptical of what they are doing.
The only problem I have, was the mention of the video, which to me - is pointing out how they've changed their look. I don't like that, because it has nothing to do with the music. On the other hand, the whole "image sells" arguement comes in then. Gah, it's just a vicious cycle.

Actually, they wanted to do a big, pretentious, "trilogy" of music video's that would link all three singles from Liberation Transmission together a la Guns N' Roses (nearly) did and Funeral For A Friend. But they just couldn't afford to do it so they had to film a plan B video instead.
I'm looking forward to the new album. I'm also gonna try to get my copy signed by 'em when it comes out.

no offence, but I don't think they really changed their sound that much.. I mean, Rooftops and Burn Burn are practically the same thing..same idea, at least.
And what do you care about whether or not they go 'mainstream'? If you like their music, that should be enough, or am I wrong here? The only thing that *should* matter is what YOU think of the music, not what others think about it.
oh well.. anyway. what I also wanted to say was, that in the new video (Rooftops?) there's this girl, sitting at the table at dinner with her parents, and she could practically be the twin sis of the girl I know. Except maybe the length of the hair (the one I know has a bit shorter hair).
Oh my god, they've actually written a tune which will appeal to people who like a song without emotional baggage, angsty school kids, and WORST OF ALL... the mainstream. *gasp*

I got into them when i the re-release of FSOP came out and i really liked it, that was a really great album. It just had a much rawer sound and all the urgency and power in their songs.
With the new one and SS they've dropped all the harshness of the guitars and boosted his vocals up so much (which is ridiculous them relying on vocals so heavily, because if you've seen them live you'll know he can't hit all the notes anyway) to make them sound, to all intensive purposes like an american pop band.
I read what Harmonic said, and while yeah its good to make money, if you have to sacriface you're artistic intergrity to do it, which i believe they have with the last two albums compared to their earlier stuff, then that IS selling out to me.
I just seems to me these days that they're more likely to model hair styling products then write a song which makes me turn my head.

<3 i looove this band soo much :D theyre just so much fun live people are moshing and screaming and your thinking "shit am i going to die " but at the same time you cant stop laughing coz its really great fun  Their music just makes me so happy :p muse and lostprophets have been my favourite bands now for well over a year muse a bit longer but i really do think that lostprophets are great and very inspiring to me as a teenager ( and a welsh one :p) especially when they say in interviews about not letting any body tell you anything's unatainable no matter where your from
New albums done according to their myspace :D * explodes* now its just a case of Mixing it apparently and then it finally coming out, on the one hand i want it to be soon but on the other im hoping to god theyre not on tour the same time as muse or i might just go insane

Well at the moment I'd say it's not as good as Start Something. But I'd say it's a grower definitely.
It seems quite deep and varied, yet still coherent. Nice blend of their older 'punkier' sound and their newer 'neo prog' and 'pop rock' appeal.

Ooh, you got it early? Excellent, people have it, that gives me the right to download it now :chuckle:
I will be buying it, though, when I have the money and the chance. I think Lostprophets have finally progressed to the 'bands-I-like-enough-to-buy-their-albums' level.

is anyone going to the gig in cardiff May 1st?
Also, just wondering, at the end of The Light That Shines Twice As Bright, is it meant to just like cut off, I checked some youtube videos and it seems to, but it just seems odd to just cut it off. Or does it have something to do with a Japanese bonus track?

Just cuts off on mine. Odd really. A soft outro would have been better.
Going to see them with a couple of friends at the O2 Bournemouth on the 28th of April. I'm not a huge fan but really enjoyed their set at V in 2008 so am looking forward to this:)

Oh and if you haven't heard it yet, listen to the demo of Last Train Home, it is SO MUCH better than the album version.
Few pics from last night's gig.

My camera, which is usually superb even with the most pumping bass, struggled a bit as we were right in front of an amp but it's not too bad.

Would I go to another Lostprophets gig? No.
Their fanbase, last night at least, had an average age of about fifteen and there were just so many complete tossers in the crowd. Their immaturity was annoying in the extreme.
Shame.

Sorry you couldn't make it. They're not my favourite band by any means but I can imagine how I'd feel if I couldn't go to a Kasabian gig (for example), you must be very disappointed :(
Thanks :) They're nowhere near as good as my Muse HD videos, we were literally about two feet away from an amp and the sound wasn't the best I've ever experienced at a gig so there is some distortion unfortunately.

Well thats just my opinion. There was a time when i quite liked the 3rd album, but it just doesn't compare to the others. That album is quite pop  the others are heavier sounding, without being anything like metal.

They're a decent band, but I'm befuddled by the number of magazines suddenly hailing the return of "the kings of the UK rock scene". When did they get that title?
It's just that, for my money, they've never released an all-out perfect album (Start Something is one of those records I think of as classic despite having a couple of so-so tracks) and certainly don't have the kind of stature Muse, Biffy Clyro and other bands have achieved.

I think Muse and Biffy are more srs, you wouldn't see them going out on main stage Reading with a huge MEGA LOLZ banner behind them
There's a point I'm trying to make out somewhere in that but not sure how to phrase it...
