If you really want to see a band and they're very popular your best bet is to que up at the venue. Well worth the effort. I feel so lucky to have got standing tickets  Much better than going on the internet :yesey:

I got seats in Block 106 with a couple of mates :D

Still desperate to trade up for standing tickets though :p

Any estimates on how much extra I'd have to pay to get 3 standing tickets considering I could give 3 seating tickets as well as money???

I AM! I thought it was a brillaint location and its like right next to a train station so me and my mates are gettin a train from newcastle to sheffield then a smaller train that goes around sheffield to a station called arena - don valley station. Have you booked a room yet?

I was on seetickets from 9am but couldn't get through! I had two phones to my ears but it was engaged every time. By 20 past seetickets had sold out and it wasn't looking good. I came back from a shower and the sheffield box office site had loaded and I reserved some tickets. But it wouldn't accept my details, I couldn't figure out why. I was about to give up but then tried putting spaces in my card number and it worked :D I had a major buzz and rang all my friends to rant at;)
thats my story;) See you at Sheffield :D
you should of went to ticketmaster my mate got straight through using them.

I saw Metallica at Nottingham in February, we were standing, and got fairly close to the stage. My OH went to Sheffield to see them and he was in seating, and we missed all the visuals and the stage set up. The stage seemed really high to me, and I'm 5ft 10! If Muse do an 'in the round' I'm glad I'm in seating if I base it on what Metallica did. I couldn't believe how good it was when I saw his video clips. Yes, sure it was cool to be in standing, we got about 5 feet away from the stage, but when there was no one on our side we were waiting for someone to come round! At least in seating you can see everything!

Just my opinion :)

I asked if we could do that and she got annoyed and said 'I couldn't give a toss about what other people want to do, you're just ungrateful' and threatened to burn my tickets. She also thinks I'm selfish for wanting her to stand the entire gig, but she doesn't understand how much I want to stand...I want to convince her to go to the Birmingham one and swap two of the standing tickets for seated ones (there'd be loads of people willing to swap) but she's having none of it. :/

And if I bring it up again, she probably will just tear my tickets up.

But she was in a good mood this morning until I brought it up. :/ And as soon as I did, she was instantly angry and then my dad joined in, and everything went to pot. I don't think they realise how much I would love standing tickets, and we actually have the opportunity, but they're not letting me...

I'll try another day, before the tickets arrive, and see what happens...

But if I call her selfish, that will NOT go down very well. I'll leave that part out.

Start doing nice things to her: butter her up a bit. Then persuade a friend of yours that they desperately want to go to that gig and that you obviously need to go with them! ;)

I'm already going with a friend, and my mum and her mum are coming too. But my mum won't let me go to the gig with just my friend.

My dad definitely doesn't understand. The argument he came up with was 'You don't want to be caught in the crush, do you?'

YES. Yes I do. But he thinks I'm mental now.

Do you think it'll be possible to make our way down to the standing area at Sheffield? If not I can't see any other way (unless my mum gives into the idea of swapping two of the Birmingham tickets for seated tickets) that I'll be able to see Muse in the standing area or any gig...because I probably won't be lucky enough to get standing tickets again. :/

I really don't see what the problem would be if the 'rents swapped theirs for seating while you went in standing with your friend. They would be there if anything happened and would get to watch too from the comfort of their seats!

Perhaps you are expressing yourself the wrong way? Have you expressed how ultimately grateful you are about going at all, what wonderful parents they are, blah, blah, blah...

Yeah. Give them a few days of observing what a wonderful, grateful, delightful offspring you are. Perhaps after school you could get in some, 'was talking to my friends and they were telling me how difficult it was to get tickets and so and so tried for hours and couldn't get any. Wow, I'm so lucky to be going. I'm so happy etc. etc. etc.' Flattery is a good technique in persuading too!

Also perhaps work out some bartering techniques, such as you won't expect any birthday/ Christmas presents this year or you'll do something for them.

Also perhaps work out some bartering techniques, such as you won't expect any birthday/ Christmas presents this year or you'll do something for them.

I seriously wouldn't mind giving up my next 10 birthdays to have those standing tickets. If it does work, and we end up deciding to swap two of our standing tickets for seated, how would we going about doing that?

Hmmm...not entirely sure, I know it's close though! I was pointed in that direction by somebody else (and at 35 for a triple room , thought 'what the hell!'). I know there are quite a few people staying there though :D

I just noticed your signature - go you! I don't have the time or the money *sigh* to do that many gigs this time round :supersad:

Sounds like the Etap hotel it is :D Just need to speak to the girls I'm going with...

Yeah I'm going on a bit of a Muse binge :$ And I'm still planning to go more gigs next year

People are pretty desperate to get standing tickets so it should be easy! Good luck! :)

As a parent, I can kinda see where your folks may be coming from. Perhaps they're concerned for your safety, I've been caught in a few nasty crowd surges, even at my age. My daughter is a seasoned gig-goer at the age of 13, but I will still be concerned when she goes to her first one on her own. Between us we are well in double figures when it comes to gigs she's come with me to.

Perhaps your mum wants to spend a bit of time with you at the gig?

I have no suggestions, I don't know your circumstances, but I do know that pressurising your parents may cause them to dig their heels in, I know it definitely does when my kids do it to me :)

Just be greatful you're at the gig. I know my daughter and I are. There are thousands out there that would do anything for a ticket.

Just my opinion, I come in peace :)

I can understand about her wanting to make sure you're ok.

You won't get in standing though from seating, I think the arena floor is barriered off from the seats, and you can only get in standing from arena floor level. (I'm sorry if I'm confused, I've been to a fair few arenas, someone with a better memory will correct me )

Well, my dad seems to think it will be easy, and if not, he expects me to sit back down and forget about it. I'm gonna tell my friend to ask her dad not to sell their tickets yet (they can't until they arrive anyway) and have another go in a few days...

There will be people checking tickets before admitting folks to the floor, I'd be suprised if not. If you're that determined then perhaps, like you say, let it lie for a bit and try again in a few days, but stay calm when you do. :)

I really hope you get what you want, but don't be too disappointed if your folks are firm. I can see where you're coming from, I know I'm going to have this kind of debate as soon as my daughter is 14 and wanting to go off by herself, and she can be stubborn!!!!!!!!

Ah right. Hmmm.. you've got 4 standing tickets for Birmingham you say? you could try swopping two of those standing tickets in Musebay for seating so you and your friend's parents can go seated and you go standing? That way your mum can keep an eye on you. And I don't think you can go standing if you've got a seated ticket. They usually have barriers around the standing area.

bit of an obvious question probably, but how do we get the wristbands? I've got 2 standing tickets, so will they just be sent out with them in the post or do we get them when we show the tickets at the venue? Not been standing before so don't exactly know :)

ive never been to sheffield arena before so i dont know the exact protocol. however on most gigs.... you go into the venue and then ther will be doors into blocks and then some of them will have 'floor standing' signs, if you go to a floor standing door, theyll give you a wristband there, and then your free to go onto the floor and off the flooor.... :)

I went standing to see the killers and they didn't give out wristbands :erm: To be fair, that's only one band, maybe they usually do it. They took our tickets off us [you could get one back at the end of the gig if you wanted] at the floor. You go in any block entry and then down some steps, if i remember right. I didn't go off the floor at that gig, but i'm not sure if you can, i think there's a seperate bar/food bit at the back of the floor section... Anyone shed some light?

Is there anyone who can help me who lives in Sheffield?

I was looking at travel arrangments for getting around Sheffield. I know this might sound a bit odd but me and my friends found a hotel called the Etap Hotel and using google maps it appears to be right next to the arena and I also noticed it appears to be near a station called Arena - Don Valley Station or something haha. You appear to get on a train at Sheffield Station to get to Arena - Don Valley Stadium.

1st question is: Roughly how long does it take to get from Sheffield's main train station to Arena - Don Valley?

and the 2nd is: How much does the service cost?

If anyone that knows the area really well can post a reply to this or message me on my page i'd be grateful.

Cheers:)

Cos me and my mates live in Rotherham (right next to Sheffield) and so we are wondering if we could catch the last buses home (costing 40p per bus journey) rather than shelling out for a taxi/minibus.

Arena - Don valley is a tram, not train, stop.
cant remember how long it takes as its been a while, but it shouldn't take too long, and its not very expensive either.

James.

It takes 22 minutes to get from Sheffield station to the Arena by tram according to the journey planner at http://www.supertram.com/journeyplanner.html.
1.70 each way according to the journey planner. You change trams at the Castle Square stop.

Yeh, You get on a tram at sheffield station, into town, it takes like 2 minutes, because it'd just one stop.
Otherwise you can just walk into town, the tram stops are easy to find.
Then you get on the meadowhall tram, and there is a stop 'arena/don valley stadium' which is where you get off.
There will be lots of people doing the same thing, should be easy.
sometimes they have trams just for the arena.

Im guess you will be able to get the bus.
The gig will finish before 11 im guessing (probably about half 10 maybe)
and buses don't stop running untill about.. 12. You should be alright.

In regards to standing questions :

For getting into the standing area, you need a standing ticket. You will enter by a different door to those seated, the tickets are checked, there isn't a wristband (if there is for some strange reason, you'll get these when you have your ticket and bags checked). There are barriers so you can't simply swap from seated to standing I'm afriad Basically it's health and safety etc..

For getting to the barrier, get there in the afternoon, if you run, you'll be told not to, just practice walking fast and not fall over. It's good if you have stamina and a strong bladder. If you want to get near the front, but not bothered about the barrier, you can work your way to the front, if you're polite and people let you past.

Last Muse gig in the arena in the standing section, there was a merch stall at the back, not sure about alcohol as I'm never bothered about that sort of thing as it annoys me seeing hammered people at gigs acting like barbaric twits.

Seating wise, you tend to have a very good view on the first tier, second tier I've never sat in, so I can't give an opinion. I've got a couple of Metallica vids on youtube from the first tier seated on what would be Matt's side of the stage as you look at it, if you want an idea of what it's like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-EO4ah48-g&feature=channel_page

In regards to cameras, the times I've been standing in the arena, I've been told not to use my camera and that's been that (make sure its not a big SLR, just a point a shoot, otherwise you'll have it taken off you). The times I've been seated, I've not been checked for a camera.

u sure? i dnt really want to take a bag if i don't have a room to put it in and i don't wanna take it to the gig that's for sure! haha

ive never been asked for ID when ive checked into a hotel. and if the worse comes to the worse and they do then just tell them that nobody asked your age when you were booking, and you've got nowhere else to go. and if they still dnt let u stay, dnt forget youll have about 100 musers in the hotel aswell to fight ur cause haha

A lot of pubs in the centre have late licenses, but normal pubs often close around 11pm, which is probably when Muse will finish, so I suggest we go to Centertainment as although they are restaurants most have good bars :)

35 per room - otherwise I am quite sure one of us can "smuggle" you in one of our rooms - it's not like they gonna check how many people there are in each room!!

You can always reserve one to be one the safe side as you don't have to pay for it until the day - if you choose a Flex room you can also cancel free of charge until the day before.

Im moving to Cyprus. Spontanious decision. Got fam over there. I wont bore you with the details.

I had to sell my Oasis, U2 and more painfully, Kasabian tickets to go.

But your a fool if you think im selling my Muse tickets, ill be flying back here on the 2nd, staying for Sheffield and then Brum, then flying back.

ME ME ME ME ME hahaha

And yeah :D Unless I can get hold of some standing tickets, then these seats would go straight to Musebay...
